Harvest Room - Fairmont Hotel Macdonald Ratings and Reviews
We ordered the Beast Board and what a “beast” it was. Great value and tons of food for $99. Easily 4 people could have shared it.
Service was top notch. Special thanks to Ivan for providing great service.
They even gave us a Happy Anniversary cake and sparkling wine, Complimentary!
We’ll definitely come back.
There were only 2 other tables dining in the restaurant while we visited. Unfortunately they were seated right beside us. One of the other parties included a very loud talker that made our experience somewhat unpleasant. The food tasted good and was cooked well. The service overall was good but I was disappointed that I had to ask for coffee with my dessert. We used a Groupon so were limited on what we could order. The meal ended up being quite expensive for what we ate.
We had made a reservation in advance for my husband’s birthday. The restaurant was not busy, our table was not ready. However our server was ready to please and definitely made up with the attentive service. The food was mediocre. We’ve had several meals here in the past and were disappointed in the quality. Our server did treat my husband to Birthday cake and a couple glasses of bubbly. The most memorable item we had from the menu was my crème brûlée. It was perfect. The mains however were lacking in ingredients. There was no actual seafood in the seafood risotto and my husbands steak was very thin and swimming in sauce. Flavours were amiss. We will not be returning anytime soon.
Lovely setting. I hope our meals were a one off in that it was disappointing. Fish overdone, pasta mushy. At this price point expect quality control from kitchen to be superior. Not a fan of complaining and time was not on our side for a re-do. Will return someday in the hopes it was not the norm.
Great food and great service. Our waiter Dew Johnny was fantastic and didn't even mind when I accidentally broke a glass. Since it was our anniversary, we were given complimentary champagne and a small dessert to share. Prior to our meal we were able to wander around the garden and enjoy the great river valley views.
We were supported in our decision to change seating place.
Our options were explained.
The food was delicious and we were able to add omelets, which were made separately.
Refreshments were available by Nathilli continually.
Service was welcoming and expedient.
Feeling of being "Special" was an obvious debut!!
A return is inevitable.....
The service was outstanding! We were there for our anniversary and the staff went above and beyond to make it special for us. The food is always so good and the setting makes it a perfect place to enjoy each others company. We will keep going back, we have never been disappointed.
Our experience at the McDonald hotel was fantastic overall. Our server went above and beyond to make our evening special. The decor is a bit dated. The food although excellent was not especially unique. There was just one gluten free, vegetarian option on the menu. We had requested a few things on open table; window seat - ended up in the middle of the room and options on gluten free items. Our server did eventually recall that one of us was celiac after it was mentioned to him. This delayed service of a gluten free bread. Overall though it was quiet, the wine parings were fantastic with our food choices. It was a special evening. Thank you for this.
The food was excellent.. Hot and very tasty.. Beef tenderloin cooked to perfection. The service was impeccable by all staff.. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed.. Candle lit tables.. Cloth napkins.. Great place for that special occasion.. Highly recommend..
Service: My friends and I had a reservation at 7:00 and were late by a few minutes. However, we were still immediately sat inside the dining room, and were told by Liana the hostess that we could move out to the patio if it cleared up. The hostess continued to explain the menu to us and tell us some specials and recommendations. Our server Dew came up and introduced himself shortly after, and took our order. It should be noted that the silverware was clearly taken care of and the staff took time to polish every piece of cutlery. During the meal I asked if the pasta is supposed to be cooked al dente and Dew did not hesitate to get a new order started once he found out that the pasta was overcooked and mushy. The food took a little long to arrive, however, this I do not fault for the service because the manager Jerome and Dew made sure to keep us informed about the food. At the end of the meal, we were treated to a small desert on the house and some sparkling wine. Very good experience.
Food: We ordered only one starter, which was the Lobster Chowder. Considering how it read "Nova Scotia Lobster Chowder" we assumed it would be a creamy chowder, similar to a Nova Scotian styled seafood chowder, however it was a manhatten/rhode island style chowder. Still very delicious, but not clear as to what kind of broth.
We ordered the octopus tagliatele which came out overcooked. The second time around however, it came out nice. The pasta held some texture and had some body to it. Also, the octopus was cooked beautifully.
I had the lamb chops. It was seasoned perfectly and the mint flavour was subtle enough to add a lightness and freshness that was unlike the normal spice pairings.
The other two guests had the tenderloin (slightly overcooked but still very delicious) and the Pan Roasted Chicken. The chicken was absolutely delicious. The seasoning was very nice and the fry on the skin made it crisp and incredibly tasty. Also, the chicken was cooked perfectly.
Everything was absolutely delicious and it was such an amazing experience! We enjoyed the 3 courses for $69 and what a deal! They started us out with a chef creative taster appetizer which was yum! I had the scallop & prawn appetizer on squid ink risotto, the tenderloin which was the most amazing steak ever, and the Chocolate Delice. They also brought us a sparkling wine and extra dessert plate complimentary. The service and food were impeccable! Looking forward to next time already!
We were staying at Mac Hotel, so we decided to eat dinner at the restaurant. The service was okay, but the appatizer and main meal was aweful. Bone marrow? Gross. The meat was nothing special at all and we each got one slice of potato. $9 a beer? And the presentation of the meal was amature at best. And the kicker for this meal for 2, $220.00! Unreal. Our advice, walk across the street to Ruth's Kris and have a great meal and enjoy yourself. And the hotel is nothing special either, $35 for parking, and the hotel would reimburse us for it. Room was small and loud, room price was North off $200 as well.
Went here with my wife for our 1st anniversary. My review is mixed: the ambience and the excitement of eating at a classy/historical establishment was great, however, the service was poor and the food -- average.
Our waiter never once asked us how our food was, meanwhile the table beside us seemed to get a lot of attention from their waiter. The bread came out cold and poorly seasoned, it had that awful frozen taste. Nova Scotia clam chowder was our appetizer which I would give a 7/10 as the portion was quite small. For entree my wife ordered the Octopus and chorizo pasta. I tried some of her dish and didn't mind it (although I was curious why they would go heavy on a lime sauce in a tomato pasta dish)... She remarked that we make better pasta at home. I ordered ordered the seared salmon. It was decent, but for $39 I wasn't impressed that I could easily make this at home.
At the end of the night, we were finally asked what our occasion was and when I said it was our 1st anniversary, we were given a complimentary dessert. It was a nice touch :)
We sat outside and it was a beautiful night with a great view. I had a few $9 pints of Stella Artois which were quite tasty - I was pleased to see the Harvest Room abides by an imperial pint (20 oz or 568ml). The drinks hit the spot.
Like I said, all in all a decent night, but they need to step up their game. People expect a high quality of service when patronizing these sorts of establishments.
Oh by the way, you need to purchase a parking ticket (and HOLD ONTO that receipt) if you want to park in their underground lot. I learned the hard way and realized I was unable to get back to my car without a code. Parking is $5.50/hr.
We went to the Harvest room for a special lunch. We brought our own cake for the event. Two of our guests ordered from the express lunch menu that includes dessert. Rather than deducting the Cakeage from our bill on the two orders, we were charged $3.75 per person for the Cakeage. You don't go to the Mac for a deal, but nobody likes being treated unfairly.
It was a wonderful experience and we would go again the next time we are in Edmonton! Food was fantastic, well portioned, and the restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere. Service was extremely good, the waiter just kept mixing up our meals so had to change the untensils out for 2 of our 3 courses. He still made our experience great though as he was very attentive.
Our dining experience was amazing. We loved the fact that because we were a couple without children, we were not rushed. We were immediately welcomed and seated. In short order we received our drinks and ordered our meals. The salads came after about 20 minutes, which means they were not pre-made, but were made when our order was received in the kitchen. Then about 30 minutes later, we received our entrée. The whole dining experience was over 2 hours. Hard to find a place that allows you to socialize and enjoy without being rushed. There was a family with children about 7 & 12 years old. Their meals were served in less time, which was appropriate for that family. Everything was fresh, delicious and the perfect temperature. The beef was served with a steak knife, but it was so tender, it could be cut with a spoon. I have food allergies and the waitress went above and beyond to ensure I was not at risk for any cross-contamination. The special birthday surprise was not expected, but a very welcome bonus. We will be back.
