Harvest, Restaurant & Bar
Food was average. My entree came with peaches and they served peaches that weren’t ripe in July in Alabama. That was disappointing.
Even for a hotel restaurant it was below average. I ended up paying 50 with tip for an appetizer, glass of wine, and a salad. The appetizer was fine, but the biscuits tasted warmed over and the pimento cheese was slightly discolored on top like it had been sitting out. The heirloom tomato salad was overdressed and the three tomatoes that should have been the star of the dish were pale. The wine was very good. The meal was not worth the cost.
I made a reservation on Open Table. We honored the reservation, but a young red headed guy supposedly cancelled it for whatever reason. The ambience was amazing. The food was fair, but the service was lacking to say the least. I will not return.
On our first night in Birmingham we decided to eat at Harvest in the Redmont hotel and it was a good decision. The serving staff were very friendly and efficient and the food lived up to expectations. We started with kale caesar salad which was delicious and this was followed by the gulf fish and pork shoulder - both were well presented and cooked well. The restaurant is a bit informal but the food certainly makes up for this and we'll return next time we're in Birmingham.
The entire staff was warm and accommodating, the atmosphere was very comfortable, we had great cocktails, but it went downhill from there. The food was very average. Our appetizer (Southern 101) sounded delicious, but was just okay. I had the pesto fettuccine (it is misspelled on the menu, that should have been my first clue), which was very dry. It tasted like it had been reheated. My husband had the burger, which was good. We ordered the strawberry shortcake for dessert and it was awful-sugary sweet and more like a tiered cake topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a few (maybe three) strawberry slices. My daughter had the chocolate torte and was happy with it. The clincher was when the table next to ours got their entrees. I could smell the fish before I saw it. When I finally found the source of the horrible odor, the woman who ordered it was just shaking her head at her husband. It was awful and she sent it back! Not sure how they could even serve it, it smelled SO bad.
If you are staying at the hotel and need a drink, it would be a fine place to go. The waitstaff was attentive and fairly well trained. But, there are so many other excellent restaurants in Birmingham, I would go somewhere else to eat.
It was our first time and we enjoyed it. Clean and nice atmosphere. I will go again.
Brunch menu was reasonable with nice selection! Food was fabulous and great cocktails!!
Sunday Brunch with husband, son, daughter-in-law, and 3 Year old granddaughter plus her 4 year old cousin. Loved the atmosphere. Service was stretched but sill adequate. It might have been problematic if pressed for time. We had issues with over cooked bacon and a steak order but it was quickly resolved. One order was compensated without asking. We will definitely at this to one of our go to for brunch locations.
Great service, great food, unique and beautiful space and not super pricey.
The food was fantastic and atmosphere was perfect. Me and some girls go together to celebrate my friends engagement and we’re very pleased with each of our meals.
So glad we found this restaurant. Great food and service. Nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed it.
Food and service were fantastic, very impressive. Everything was brought to the table in good time, and the setting was perfect. Finding parking was reasonable considering it's downtown and I would definitely go again. We went on Valentine's day dinner for 2 was over 100 bucks but it was well worth it.
Great food and service!
Sit away from the windows if you get cold easily.
This is my third visit to Harvest in less than 3 weeks. I loved my meal, service and the ambiance. I’ll be back soon.
Great food, good atmosphere, and very good service. We were in town for a concert and this place looked great to try - and we are so glad we did! Thank you.
Pimento cheese appetizer was great. Fish entree was very good as was the Duroc Pork
Roasted chicken was dry and the au jus nonexistent ... kids chicken fingers was dry grilled chicken... and no one in the party of six had a tasty meal... the chef spent a lot of time on the floor delivering hamburgers... time would have been better spent in the kitchen... I have never posted a bad review before but there is always a first time for everything
Exceptionally mediocre in all respects from menu selections to quality of food to service.
We were celebrating a birthday and basically had a terrible experience. The food was pretty good, not outstanding by any means, but the service was not. Our server was absolutely terrible and disinterested. We sat with menus on the table ready to order for an unacceptable amount of time. After that, he would disappear for long amounts of time. There were only (at its busiest) four tables in the restaurant the whole time we were there.
This is my first negative review for a restaurant in my entire life and I think it is well deserved. I dine out extremely often...from fine dining to everyday outings. This was the worst experience I've had in a long time.
Food: our dinner entrees were dull and poorly prepared. They did not live us to the creative promises of the menu, with the exception of the cute Southern 101 appetizer we immensely enjoyed.
Service: our waitress was attentive and accessible, yet also casual and unfamiliar with protocol, as if untrained. No manager checked on us.
Atmosphere: the space is small but not intimate; it adjoins the hotel lobby and tries hard to create a space of its own while never fully succeeding (though the large pretty windows looking out on Richard Arrington Blvd are an evocative nod to the building's revitalization). Our table had too much traffic, with wait staff and other diners frequently brushing by.
Bottom line: there are far better dining experiences to be had in downtown Birmingham for the same amount of money, and if it's too late to get reservations for one of them, just stay home.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal at Harvest. Started with a bottle of rose and pate. Next their special turkey dinner: turkey rolled around sausage, delicious cornbread dressing all placed upon sweet potatoes and gravy. Finished with the pumpkin pie with thick graham cracker crust and chocolate cake. A delightful and delicious meal for our family. Great service with Seth also!
Went there for brunch on a Sunday AM while visiting Birmingham for a wedding. Underwhelmed by the food selection. Made a reservation but wasn't needed since they where only 1/3 full at 9:30 am. Service people tried hard but were obviously inexperienced. Nothing more than a basic Hotel breakfast. Rather disappointed. We would have paid more for more.
Stayed at the Redmont and was pleasantly surprised at the offerings on the menu, very delicious and beautifully presented! The breakfast buffet was wonderful and again, delicious! The wait staff were so friendly and attentive. A "must" the next time we are in Birmingham!
The restaurant is difficult to locate, as it is in a hotel, but there is no such signage outside. The menu does change, as they note on the site, but rather drastically. The portions, quality, and selections are all small for a very large price tag. The service was nice; however, the bartender on duty the evening we went there was terribly good at her job. I would not recommend for any occasion, and I have no plans to return.
This restaurant is in the Redmont Hotel, and it definitely feels like you're eating in a hotel lobby rather than a separate space (which I couldn't really tell from the blurb on Open Table). They were out of a few of the dishes. The dishes we ordered were fairly tasty, especially the New York strip and the margherita tartine (not sure if I remember that correctly). It's good, just not phenomenal... especially when compared to other Birmingham restaurants.
But it IS open on Sundays.
Place was completely empty on a Saturday night at 6:30. Food was really good but a very small menu. Seemed to be a lot of servers, etc just standing around the bar/hostess desk. We unfortunately, had to listen to all of their gossiping and complaining since we were the only patrons - unprofessional and annoying. Also, surprisingly, our waiter disappeared for a long time leaving us waiting to place our order. Looks like an upscale, cool place but they need to retrain some of their staff.
Staff very nice, but not well trained. Also, was expecting a more formal setting. Food was very good. Would visit again, but not for dinner.
We requested a table at the bar because we had already had drinks and wanted a more casual (and possibly not so quite) table! We were not disappointed! We sat at a high top in the bar, food was spectacular! Our server was a bartender- she was great! We booked last minute for a quick dinner and were seated promptly, timing with food was great, overall we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
The food was excellent. The restaurant was beautiful and comfortable. Exceeded our expectations. We will be back.
We tried Harvest during Restaurant Week, and we were amazed. There were several of us who thought it was the best meal we had ever eaten during a Restaurant Week event. The service was excellent, the portions were very satisfying, the taste was excellent. We were baffled that there were not more people there. We all agreed it is a hidden gem.
I set up the reservation, received a follow text from the restaurant to confirm my reservation. When we arrived with our client, we were informed that they decided to no be open for lunch anymore, but we could sit at the (1) table in the snack area. Seriously, what a joke and embarrassing for me and my team. We went Bottega instead, which was fantastic as usual. We were excited about Harvest at The Redmont Hotel. Very disappointing Harvest!
Nothing worse going out of your way for
We enjoyed our dinner with friends. Had great service and we all enjoyed what we ordered. Good choices for a summer menu.
Great service and quality food! Souz-chef recommendation on the sweet corn ice cream dessert was a great birthday treat!
Harvest was very good. The food was great, service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was beautiful. It was not very busy and we could not understand why. We enjoyed it very much and will recommend to friends.
Atmosphere was nice. Service somewhat slow. Food was acceptable.
The Harvest in the Redmont Hotel is a real find. We have eaten there three times and the food has been excellent. It's never very full and seem not not have been taken up by the "cool foodie" crowd, but it should be. The prices are quite reasonable for such imaginative, beautifully presented and excellently prepared food, significantly less than many of the better regarded eating places in Birmingham. At a recent meal our octopus appetizer was fabulous as were the scallops and our shared dessert--olive oil cake. On another night we enjoyed very good pasta dishes. Our friends loved the lamb chops and their chocolate dessert. The service, though very friendly and attentive, seems still to have a bit of new restaurant awkwardness and rough spots (ex. not being able to find the wine, forgetting cutlery).
Based on good reviews, we decided to try this relatively new "hotel" restaurant in the newly renovated "Redmont Hotel" with friends. We were pleased to find a nice restaurant open on a Sunday evening in Birmingham (other than chain restaurants, not many choices are available for us). The restaurant was not crowded on that Sunday evening and we had a very pleasant and accommodating server. He made one mistake (did not bring out soup), but more than made up for it. We were pleasantly surprised with great food, except for one dish in my opinion. The crostini appetizer (shared, with three individual pieces) was great (9/10), the lamb T-bone served over a risotto was GREAT (10/10) and perfectly cooked. One friend had the scallop dish which he liked, but i found that the scallops tasted and smelled "fishy" (fresh seafood should no smell). We tried two of the three desert choices and found all three to be excellent. Overall a very good experience and we will be back.
First time to visit and had an overall good experience but was surprised at the menu items they were out of already. It is Friday on Labor Day weekend and restaurant was not very busy. Chef must have prepared for that fact because they were out of a number of items from the start including a few appetizers and a signature dish.
Our server was very apologetic and did his best to manage the situation. Nice job Allen for your first day!
Moving forward all four of us really enjoyed our respective meals and drinks. As a nice gesture the manager sent a wonderful desert for the table to share. Great chocolate dish!
Would return again.
