Harvest Oro Valley Ratings and Reviews
I have had very nice dining experiences at Harvest. The wait staff has always been pleasant and attentive, and the food delicious. There are good vegetarian options, and all the burgers can be made with a black bean patty. Nice happy hour selection. I go to the Harvest in Oro Valley, and during weekends and rainy days it can get very busy during peak dinner hours, so it's recommended to make a reservation.
First time at Harvest; took friends from out of town. Older clientele, especially weekdays before six PM. Service was good, pleasant and knowledgable. Seated promptly at reservation time, always a good sign. The food is very good; salmon and sides beautiful, burger with interesting side choices (french onion soup?!), and the short ribs, notably the reduction sauce, amazing. Will definitely return for the food, even though the ambiance is sparse and the outdoor seating, although technically outdoor is little more then a plastic enclosed sidewalk. If Harvest were in a lovely setting/building with a nice patio, it would be voted one of the best restaurants in Tucson. So go for the great food and deal with the surroundings...although the 'chandeliers' are clever.
My husband and I invited another couple to introduce them to the Harvest. In the past we’ve had exceptional dinners, but this time the food was very disappointing. I ordered the Wild Caught Salmon with risotto. The salmon was cooked to a crisp...very overdone! The risotto was barely warm. My husband ordered the Pork Tenderloin Caprese, which was very unappetizing to look at and the pork was tasteless. It’s going to be a VERY long time before we’ll want to try again.
I brought several friends in for dinner recently, and each of us had a spectacular meal. Those who had the salmon said it might just be the best salmon they had ever had. Others ate a variety of meals, but each one was delicious. In past visits, the service at this restaurant has left much to be desired, but on this evening, we either lucked out or there has been some re-training happening. The service was very good, although the wait for the food was quite long.
The food is always consistent, and there is usually a fish special at dinner. Their medallions of beef are well prepared. The service is the inconsistent part , and may be due to servers coming and going. We waited a long time for our bill which was incorrect. After 15 minutes, the "corrected" bill arrived-still incorrect.
I am a first time visitor and I found no compelling reason to return.
First off, we were seated along the wall, in row seating, just inside the door. I was facing the wall with the room and all the foot traffic behind my chair...which is a huge personal issue for me...not the restaurant’s fault. Regardless, I was extremely uncomfortable.
My wife chose the daily special of scallops and pasta and was pleased with her choice. I opted for the Relleno Burger because it sounded like an interesting twist on a burger. Served open face, it arrived with two deep fried mounds sitting atop the burger...which I found was the “relleno”. I picked up one half and discovered my hand dripping in fry grease. Inside was a barely cooked pepper with a hard, cold chunk of cheese which fell right out onto the plate. I tried a bite of this under-cooked greasy mess and realized it tasted as bad as it looked!
The server came by about the time I was scraping the greasy mess off the top of my burger. Asked if everything was ok, I explained this blob was nothing but an uncooked grease ball and asked them to take it away. I was then asked if I would like them to prepare another “relleno” which I quickly declined. A last offer was to bring out a sliced avocado to replace the “relleno”.
Shortly thereafter, the manager came to ask if our dinner was ok. My wife quickly responded is was good and the manager left without mentioning the grease ball they had tried to pass off as a “relleno”. I was stunned at management’s failure to address my problem meal. Either the wait staff failed to report it, or the manager simply chose not to deal with it, I’ll never know which.
Needless to say I was extremely disappointed in the whole experience...I think Harvest is very over-rated.
We made a reservation the day before for my birthday through Open Table, but when we arrived Harvest didn't have the reservation in their system. I'm left wondering why we even use Open Table at all. We did get seated, but sat for 20 minutes before our drink/meal order was taken. Our waitress walked passed several times, but too quickly to flag her down. We couldn't help but notice that the couple seated next to us, who arrived after we did, got their food, ate it and paid for it by the time our meals arrived. (They had a different waitress. Our mistake for sitting where we did, I guess.) The food was good, but the $50 pre-tip/tax bill for 1 appetizer (at happy hour pricing), 1 entree and 2 glasses of happy hour priced wine seemed high. Despite indicating through Open Table that the meal was a birthday event, there was no acknowledgement of the occasion. Harvest usually recognizes birthdays with a small cake and candle. All we got was a question whether we wanted dessert or not. We didn't want dessert at that point. We just wanted to go home. Maybe they don't do the birthday thing anymore. In conclusion, the food was good but, the service was so-so. I think that Harvest in Oro Valley has declined since the east side Tucson location was opened. I believe that management is over their head with 2 locations. It used to be better, believe me. Next time we'll try Cafe Torino, next door.
Harvest is our "go to restaurant", from a quick bite after golf or a special occasion. They are consistently a quality restaurant. Excellent service and great food! The menu offers something for everyone, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees which are very creatively prepared. Sunset menu offers reduced prices til 5:00 pm, and Happy Hour lasts til 7:00 pm.This is a FAMILY RUN business, and it is obvious that the family takes great pride in what they do!! There is usually a family member who stops by to inquire about the food served. Once, a few years ago, I emailed about a concern, and the owner contacted me to invite us back for a complimentary dinner. So thoughtful!! You won't find another restaurant so willing to please!!
Overall the food and evening there was OK. I made the reservation through Open Table and didn't realize I'd be put at an outdoor table. Although there were heaters, they were inadequate for the chilly evening. Our waitress was perky but quite busy flitting between tables. Our water was never refilled. My salmon was good, however my husband ordered the duck which was under cooked for his taste - seared more like you would with ahi tuna. Two other dinners ordered the gnocchi with chicken and were disappointed, though both liked the french onion soup. On the plus side, they have tasty gluten free bread and several gluten free dinner options. I've eaten at Harvest at River Road several times and prefer that location. Perhaps since it was the holiday season we just didn't hit this location on a good night.
