Harvest Bistro & Bar (Closter, NJ) - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
The food here is amazing. The chef has a great way of blending flavors and textures that really makes this restaurant on the top of our list, especially for NJ. What's really nice is they always have specials, and they are worth trying. When we were there the special was a veal chop and it delicious. I'm gluten free and they always accommodate my dietary restrictions without compromising the flavor. Now that the weather is nicer they have outdoor dinning. Lovely place.
We are regulars here when the occasion calls for it or we don't want to drive to Manhattan. Generally, though, I find the menu somewhat limited, although my family are loyalists. This visit the food was exceptional... Cornish Game Hen brilliantly prepared with sides to complement it. The cassoulet looked especially delicious, too. The champagne and wine selections were perfect for the celebratory tone.
The ambiance is striking, and the front desk was very welcoming.
This was our 5th time here so I guess it's good for foodies like my husband and I. The food is consistently good, atmosphere lovely and service great. I missed the special they had last time. It was a tofu salad and the first time I had tofu. OMG I was so disappointed they didn't have it again, it was delicious.
Travel 30 mins to eat here. Have had 2 private functions here. Bar is wonderful, tables there are a little nosier. Food is imaginative and well prepared. The management goes out of their way to ensure a wonderful evening. Have been treated to a complimentary grappa at times.
We've been to Harvest before and had better experiences. On our last visit the waiter spilled water on me as soon I sat down - neither acknowledged nor apologized. My setting had two salad forks and no dinner fork. The whole wait staff seemed more suitable to a local diner than an upscale restaurant. Oh yes, and a person I assume was the owner brought someone else's check to our table. As for ambiance, the fireplace was nice, but the room was overly warm. My wife and I arrived early and were luckily seated at a table for four because most of the tables for two were extremely close together. The food was good, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
Outstanding food, wine, ambiance. The food is top tier in quality and presentation, the service outstanding, and the ambiance rich yet comfortable. This is a special place. We live in Closter and frequently dine at the world's finest and highest-rated restaurants, both in NYC as well as other cities around the world, and the Harvest stands up to any and all of them. Before making the trek to the city, anyone within range of this gem of a restaurant should give it a try. If you do, you'll be back again and again as we are.
It is always a pleasure to dine at the Harvest Bistro. The valet parking is a nice touch, no looking for a parking space. As soon as you walk in you are warmly greeted. The menu always has great choices and there is an extensive wine list. Not only do my wife and I enjoy our meals but everyone we bring leaves very happy.
We go here for the ambiance; the fireplace is always roaring in the winter. The food has gotten boring, with much of the same thing
for years. My duck meal had nothing interesting on the plate: carrots that tasted out of a bag, and a duck leg that was red, chewy and too fatty to eat. A second leg was OK. A hunk of polenta, boring. At a restaurant of this caliber we shouldn't have to ask the waiter to clean the crumbs before dessert, and he should have known if coffee was included in the prix fix. He was very unfamiliar with the wine menu, but was attentive to our needs for the meal. For Valentine's Day, a flower on the table would have been
a welcome addition to the tiny votive but the complimentary glass of Proseco was appreciated. We will keep going back for the food which is usually good, (in the winter) but will forgo the busy prix fixed meals in the future.
Myself, my sister, and my mother have been planning to go out just the three of us for months. I have 3 kids, my sister has one and another on the way, and my mom is now an empty nester but still works a ton and doesn't take much time for herself. I knew that Harvest would be the perfect place for us to unwind and have a wonderful meal! We did the prefixed 3course which is an amazing deal.
I'm in Love with the blood orange pomegranate martini and it was just what the doctor ordered after a crazy week!
I had been there for a baby shower which was done phenomenally.
Anniversary dinner with my husband which felt very special.
And the third time was definitely a charm for our girls night. We plan to return for brunch sometime very soon.
Harvest has been a favorite for ours for years but we were disappointed by the horrible service. While the food was good, the waiter took only our appetizer order and brought it out so quickly, it arrived before our drinks. Then he waited a long time to take our entree order and never took the menus away. He also never gave us steak knives to cut our meat so it was next to impossible to eat, After a frustrating meal, the valet guy was on his phone the whole time while try to jockey cars. Very disappointing evening!
If you are looking for French bistro food with a refined new American touch, you have come to the right place. The food is really outstanding. The sea bass was great as was the duck. My steak au poivre was perfectly cook. If you like foie gras, then get the appetizer.
Our waitress was lovely and efficient, but whoever oversaw the timing of the meal needs to learn a thing or two about pacing a dinner. We had a 7:00 reservation and were out by 8:00. That is ridiculous. And it was New Year's Eve and it was too expensive for an hour.
The service was terrible. It was Christmas eve, and it seemed like it was his first night on the job. He forgot to bring the bottle of wine we ordered until after we reminded him after the appetizers were finished. The food is overpriced and not that great.
I had high hopes for this neighborhood restaurant, nice ambiance and menu. Appetizer of beet salad good but was asked if we wanted fresh pepper after half of it was eaten.
Unfortunatley, my duck was bland and not crispy. My husband's halibut was tasty. Ordered dessert of profiteroles but they were lackluster. Ice cream and pastry both dull! Left half of it on the plate.
Not what I would expect from high end restaurant. Disappointment all around.
Unfortunately, Harvest was not a good choice for my family for Thanksgiving....The Chestnut soup and Crab Cakes were out of this world. However, the turkey was thick and chewy. The atmosphere was smoky, and I could smell the smoke on my clothing after I left. Not a winner for our family.
This was the first time dining out for Thanksgiving and I truly did not expect much.
I did have to wait a bit despite having reservations but that's expected on any holiday.
The owner was kind enough to accommadate us as soon as possible in the main dining room where there's a great fireplace.
The food was outstanding. Not only did they have your traditional turkey meal with all the sides, the restaurant also offered several other options such as lamb and seafood.
Definitely try the octopus salad as an appetizer.
Finished the meal with triple sweets.
Definitely will return for Thanksgiving and regular evenings for a solid meal.
Bravo to the staff of this well operated and beautifully exacuted restaurant. Though loud, and a heavy handed chef, we enjoyed out Thanksgiving dinner here. Too, too much gravy on the tons of turkey. Bland stuffing and not enough cranberry. The plates were loaded to the maximum degree possible and it actually took away from some of the enjoyment. If they had put gravy on the table so one could portion it themself, I think I'd have been happier then scraping off the sodden, thick slices of turkey. The Short rib was Flintstone sized! Tender, yes, but as we eat with our eyes first, the visual did nothing for it's appeal. This is a case of less would have been more.
Dessert was a full out disappointment.
I'm not going to rehash it, but trust me, a Marie Callandar's frozen dessert beats what they served.
Got to hand it to the wait staff. They were tops! Kudos to the valet team. They were also on top of their game. NO long lines or long waits to get in or out.
I LOVE THIS BISTRO!!!
Can't stop complimenting Harvest's menu!!
From great burgers to crispy Duck, this bistro has it all. My favorite, Steak Au Poivre, is the best!!!
As far as the ambiance, it is exciting!! Always a friendly person sitting next to you at the bar.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!
Consistently delicious! Many fresh and delicious seafood entrees to choose from. Fantastic jack Daniels ribs and tender moist chicken always delicious! Whatever you decide to order, you will be in for a treat sitting by the cozy fireside and enjoying a great cocktail.
French Onion soup was fantastic. Pancakes were over cooked. Kids didn't want them. Had the linguine special on Sunday. Mussels were so small, waste of time to open. Suave was too watery. It would have been better to have bigger mussels that were a few than a dozen so small it's the size of a pinky nail. Pasta was over done as was the shrimp. Service normally is a lot better. It's my 5th time there but this time it was disappointing. My server kept forgetting things and had to ask several different people to get what was needed/missing. To be fair, last 4 times have been great but last time was disappointing.
