Harvest Bistro & Bar in Closter, NJ is a romantic eatery that serves a wide range of contemporary American and French specialties. The restaurant is also popular for its wine collection, which features several domestic and imported options for diners to choose from. The restaurant's interior is classy and intimate, featuring a grand chandelier, a large fireplace and romantic art pieces throughout the dining room. Harvest Bistro & Bar also offers outdoor seating when the weather is nice.
Begin the meal with an appetizer like French Onion Soup, cheese fondue served with country bread, apples and pears or chopped salad with green olives, cucumbers, red onions, tomatoes, feta and lemon vinaigrette. The menu at Harvest Bistro & Bar also features several signature entrées like roasted Long Island duck, grilled skirt steak and pan-seared halibut.
This place has dropped in quality from what it was several years ago. Our server was slow, the food was completely awful. It's a shame because the bar area and dining room are quite beautiful and tastefully decorated. But the food is a disaster.
great restuarant. the crispy red snapper with black bean sauce is incredible. love the roast chicken. the have a crawfish boil on the menu now that is amazing. the proprietor does a fantastic job.
The food was good, but not great. We were asked by 4 people if we wanted tap water or bottled water. The floor was being swept around us while we were reading the menu. Disappointed since it was our anniversary.
One of my favorite places for brunch and more. Love the food and ambiance. A must go!
The food here is amazing. The chef has a great way of blending flavors and textures that really makes this restaurant on the top of our list, especially for NJ. What's really nice is they always have specials, and they are worth trying. When we were there the special was a veal chop and it delicious. I'm gluten free and they always accommodate my dietary restrictions without compromising the flavor. Now that the weather is nicer they have outdoor dinning. Lovely place.
food always excellent. Service spotty and a bit inattentive.
John, the maitre'd, with his warm and welcoming personality sets the tone for an evening of fine dining. Consistently good.
We always leave this restaurant happy. And we generally order different dishes. This time the pepper-encrusted seared tuna appetizer and the poached lobster were both outstanding.
The host was very friendly, even gave us complimentary drinks. Food was awesome. There were so many servers, busboys, runners. Service was so quick.
We are regulars here when the occasion calls for it or we don't want to drive to Manhattan. Generally, though, I find the menu somewhat limited, although my family are loyalists. This visit the food was exceptional... Cornish Game Hen brilliantly prepared with sides to complement it. The cassoulet looked especially delicious, too. The champagne and wine selections were perfect for the celebratory tone.
The ambiance is striking, and the front desk was very welcoming.
This was our 5th time here so I guess it's good for foodies like my husband and I. The food is consistently good, atmosphere lovely and service great. I missed the special they had last time. It was a tofu salad and the first time I had tofu. OMG I was so disappointed they didn't have it again, it was delicious.
Fun place ! Great food!!
Travel 30 mins to eat here. Have had 2 private functions here. Bar is wonderful, tables there are a little nosier. Food is imaginative and well prepared. The management goes out of their way to ensure a wonderful evening. Have been treated to a complimentary grappa at times.
Food was great and our server Lizzy was on top of her game. She was pleasant and paid attention to detail.
We've been to Harvest before and had better experiences. On our last visit the waiter spilled water on me as soon I sat down - neither acknowledged nor apologized. My setting had two salad forks and no dinner fork. The whole wait staff seemed more suitable to a local diner than an upscale restaurant. Oh yes, and a person I assume was the owner brought someone else's check to our table. As for ambiance, the fireplace was nice, but the room was overly warm. My wife and I arrived early and were luckily seated at a table for four because most of the tables for two were extremely close together. The food was good, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
Outstanding food, wine, ambiance. The food is top tier in quality and presentation, the service outstanding, and the ambiance rich yet comfortable. This is a special place. We live in Closter and frequently dine at the world's finest and highest-rated restaurants, both in NYC as well as other cities around the world, and the Harvest stands up to any and all of them. Before making the trek to the city, anyone within range of this gem of a restaurant should give it a try. If you do, you'll be back again and again as we are.
It is always a pleasure to dine at the Harvest Bistro. The valet parking is a nice touch, no looking for a parking space. As soon as you walk in you are warmly greeted. The menu always has great choices and there is an extensive wine list. Not only do my wife and I enjoy our meals but everyone we bring leaves very happy.
We go here for the ambiance; the fireplace is always roaring in the winter. The food has gotten boring, with much of the same thing
for years. My duck meal had nothing interesting on the plate: carrots that tasted out of a bag, and a duck leg that was red, chewy and too fatty to eat. A second leg was OK. A hunk of polenta, boring. At a restaurant of this caliber we shouldn't have to ask the waiter to clean the crumbs before dessert, and he should have known if coffee was included in the prix fix. He was very unfamiliar with the wine menu, but was attentive to our needs for the meal. For Valentine's Day, a flower on the table would have been
a welcome addition to the tiny votive but the complimentary glass of Proseco was appreciated. We will keep going back for the food which is usually good, (in the winter) but will forgo the busy prix fixed meals in the future.
Lovely brunch, the main dining is warm and inviting. Been there for a few dinners and cocktails, but brunch is my favorite. Even managed to get someone who never ventures further than Fort Lee to go back 2x.
The duck was delicious
