There are several Harus in Manhattan. I don't know if they are all related or not, but I do know that this Haru is not as good as that in mid-town. Too bad too, because the location is great and space is really chic. Typically financial district restaurants are great, but not so here. The sushi was just fair (honestly I get fresher fish and better presentation in Pennsylvania) and so was the service . The waiter didn't like Sake or Raw fish, so he could not make any recommendations. Weird choice of occupation I thought. The place was kind of dead even though we were there at 6:30 on a Saturday night, and the selection was pretty standard. There wasn't anything to rave about.
Had a late lunch at Haru. Hard to find since address doesn’t show up on phone mapping apps. Not crowded so servers not busy. Both of us ordered sushimi lunch special with salad. Nice salad with excellent dressing. Sushimi beautiful presentation and very fresh fish. Asked for water just after being seated but only came after we received fish course.
Main dishes served first, appetizers came in the middle of main. The 'late' shrimp appetizers were stale, and the rice in the sushi and roll were not well prepared (sushi crumbled while I picked it up). It was a business meal for a guest, whom I felt sorry about it.
I have been to Haru Wall Street several times. I find that this location is subpar compared to the Haru by Times Square. The host was overwhelmed (and didn't check us in properly so I received a notification from Opentable that I hadn't honored by res). For a reservation, the table was cramped. We specifically asked for gluten free options and we were given bad information and not told correctly of the gluten free options. We were told sashimi (and that was it!), but then checked to see if the maki was gluten free as well. (I think there were several more gluten free options but there was no info provided by the server.) After we finished our food, the server told us that there was gluten in one of our maki selections but he had neglected to tell us earlier (he felt terrible). There was a hair in my salad but I didn't say anything since I was there to take a friend to a bday lunch and didn't want to ruin it for her. The maki was not as good as I remembered - sort of fishy and nothing special. We felt bloated and off afterwards and we had salad and the maki lunch special. I don't plan on returning to this one. I generally love the happy hour specials and service at the Times Square locations.
Had my birthday meal here and I was so glad we chose it. From the moment we walked in the door, we were made to feel welcome.
Service was fabulous. We had a very helpful waiter who answered my questions on allergies and reassured me what I could eat and what I should avoid. Food was wonderful. Very fresh and presented beautifully.
Didn't feel rushed at all as is the case in some places, very relaxed atmosphere and bathrooms were clean.
I would look forward to eating there again in the future when I'm back in NYC.
Have come here several times in the past, this is one of my favourites in this area. Suitable both for a business lunch and dinner with friends. Fresh and tasty Japanese food in a vibrant setting. Service was extremely friendly and we got treated to a free desert. Can only recommend!
This place might be okay for a cocktail, if they'd learn to strain the vegetable and fruit debris out of the drink before they serve it, but I wouldn't expect to get a good Japanese meal. I had sashimi. The quality of the fish was good enough, but it was poorly cut. The pieces were too big to be managed well with chopsticks. And the sashimi was presented on mounds of shredded carrots (!) where they should have used daikon. Also, limp lettuce where there should be a fresh shiso leaf. That last bit is perhaps hard to come by some places, but not in Manhattan. Why not reach a bit higher, Haru?
The food was wonderful, I usually go for lunch, but dinner this time. The staff was on point and everything turned out well. I attended with someone who had been their for the first time. It made an impression and my associate would be more than happy to return. The tofu dish was especially good. I loved the spicy shrimps! Way-to-go!!!
Terribly disappointing. I've been to this particular Haru several times over the last few years and this was by far the worst experience. While our service was good, the food quality was subpar. For a high price point, you would expected the food quality and presentation to be, at a minimum, very good. The sushi was unevenly cut and stuffed. The spicy tuna was overly coated in spicy mayo and crunch to the point that the tuna was lost. The rice coating on the seaweed was spotty. The fish did not taste fresh.
Major disappointment. Perhaps because it was a Sunday and things are slow. Have ordered on seamless numerous times and been very satisfied.
We were seated by a non-smiling disengaged hostess. In an empty restaurant she didn't care to ask if we liked the choice of a high top or sitting so close to the front . Turns out the table was not even set. So when the food came we had to chase down utensils. Nobody picked up on this --hostess, server or runner.
Food came , was not only cold, noodles were crisping up. They denied it had been sitting long. We didn't believe them. Ive had fresher when delivered on Seamless.
No intention of returning. P.S. No manager ever came to deal or apologize for issues.
