Haru Sushi - Gramercy Park - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Incredible. While the drink that I had was rather strong and did not have many outstanding notes of flavor, I absolutely have to give it 5 stars because it was an amazing food experience otherwise. Extremely high quality sashimi, as well as an absolutely mind blowing dark chocolate white miso brownie made this visit a pleasure.
Honestly the food here is great and the one other time I went it was a good experience. But the service was absolutely atrocious. It took a half hour to bring out any drinks or apps, and we only got one of our two and had to wait another 40 minutes for the next one. No one ever apologized or made an effort to make it up to us (comping a round of drinks, for instance, would have gone a long way!). After we complained no one checked in and we waited for drink refills, water, and our entrees to be cleared. Really poor experience from a place I thought I liked.
This was my second visit in 1 week and the experience was the same for both: great. Friends and I enjoyed Happy Hour and order every appetizer listed on the menu. We enjoyed all and the wasabi tuna roll.
Great food and great value. I'll be visiting again soon.
Sushi is always reliable and priced reasonably, but the service was a disaster. Server clearly had too many tables and the sushi bar. We were left for 15 minutes to decide on our drinks and place the order. 2 food items brought to the table were incorrect. My partner had only cooked appetizers-I had only sushi-and they left me with nothing served while she ate her appetizers. I had to ask for my food which shouldn't have happened. Clearly we weren't waiting for a main course.
We went here for a Valentine's Day dinner. Unlike the Haru on the west side this one was noisy and frenetic - not as romantic as hoped. Food was wonderful service staff was rushed but worked hard to give good service.
Probably best for a younger crowd who likes things noisy and crazy.
Had to make a last minute rez for 15 with some of my snowed in colleagues and Haru did not disappoint! We were familiar with the Haru in Boston so that helped narrow the choice of many options in close proximity. They gave us a nice space on upper level so we could be ourselves. The Mgr. and the wait staff was very accommodating and the service was gracious and prompt. The waiter was very helpful in helping me navigate a nice food selection for the large group. They even ran out of Budweiser and the Mgr. ran out across the street to pick up another case...customer service excellence! Everyone loved the food and had a great time on a spontaneous sushi craving. Thank you all, well be back!
As I have stated before...........everything here is pretty good except the bathrooms need to be cleaned more often. It's very unpleasant going to a nice restaurant and having to wade through discarded paper towels, etc. to get to the toilet! I wish they would wake up here!
I went for restaurant week so the price and food option was preselected. The food was amazing and portion was surprisingly large. Even with a set price, the bill was high. It's not very private and some seating area is very tight. It was busy on a Thursday evening so can't imagine weekends. Make a reservation.
The food here is very good and consistent. I believe they are short staffed. The waiter was very nice but whenever we were looking for him for something he wasn't around. They should clean the bathrooms more often. They are always in need of a cleaning. Each time I've dined here I have dreading going into the bathroom! They are always consistently dirty and unpleasant to go into. I think restaurant management should always pay attention to this. It really is important to me and I'm sure other people feel the same. If you don't care about inattentive service or clean bathrooms the food here is very good and reasonably priced!
This is a cool restauraunt for a date you want to impress by taking to a fancy Manhattan sushi place.
The spicy tuna was served in a giant cucumber, which was kind-of wierd and not super delicious.
The sushi is pretty good. The sashimi is far better than any of the sushi on the menu.
The sushi is not traditional Japanese style in any meaningful sense, which is okay if you're not particular about that sort of thing.
It's a cool place, not a fantastic restaurant.
TERRIBLE service. Ordered Sushi Sashimi for 2 no apps in an uncrowded restaurant. Food took 1 hour. Excuse was that there were takeout orders ahead of us. I never leave bad reviews but this place is not repeat worthy. Manager bought us a round of beers but showed little interest in our situation.
