The top step into the Inn and the very low toilet in the bathroom are not handicapped---or even elderly--accessible. Some of the food was good, but most of it was badly over- or under-salted. The steak-frites, instead of being a real steak (NY strip, rib-eye), was strips of stringy braising beef. The service was good, as were our drinks, but seasoning is a basic part of good cooking, and the chef here apparently teaches cooking classes. For such a seasoned chef, not seasoning properly is unexpected and unacceptable.
Perhaps the quietest and most c
If you visit Camden,Maine..it's a must go to!!
Absolutely delicious food, pretty dining room and excellent service
Located in a beautiful B&B
Ambiance was great. We had a reservation, but had to wait 20 minutes to be seared. My wife’s steak frites was very good, however my stuffed chicken breast was pretty bland. Chocolate ganache dessert was very good.
The food was rich and the portions smallish. It is quite expensive so the excellence was not quite in synch with the cost There is a good happy hour opportunity, however, with half price cocktails and modestly priced appetizers.
Celebrating my birthday, my husband reserved a table at this lovely Inn. Although close to home, this was our first visit, but will not be our last.
Although a quiet Sunday night in the "off season", it was very enjoyable in that the ambiance coupled with allowed quiet conversation was was perfect for the occasion. Of late, too many fine dining establishments are so noisy, it detracts from the overall experience. If I want a loud and boisterous bar scene, I'll go to a brew pub!
This was everything a lovely celabratory night out could offer.
Service was attentive and with courses well timed.
The food was outstanding! Be prepared, it is a limited menu, but creative and beautifully presented. Oh, the bread!!! My husband opted for Crab Cake and Shrimp appetizer and Steak Frites which was excellent and grilled to perfection. Although I rarely order chicken out, my entree was a Chicken Breast Stuffed with Spinach and Brie . Super moist and tender with a divine sauce that did not overpower.
We had to have dessert, of course. I ordered the Grand Marnier Souffle at the start of the meal. When this gorgeous treat arrived I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Hubby had the Blueberry Creme Brulee, yet another winner.
It is certain we will return soon, ....before the tourists arrive.
Fabulous food. Quiet romantic setting. Our second trip to Camden, and our second trip to Hartstone. The tasting menu, so wonderful.
Excellent five course meal, professional yet friendly service and lovely room.
Best meal I’ve had while living in Camden! Wow!
Michael Simon's restaurant is outstanding! While the menu is limited, everything on it is beautifully presented and the quality of the food is amazing! We dined here on Wednesday, enjoyed it so much, just had to return the next evening! The service, led by Meghan, is diligent and seamless as well. When in Camden this is the choice for a sophisticated and memorable dining experience!
Our 40th Anniversary. Lovely Dinner. The menu is small but fantastic.
Lovely small restaurant. While it wasn't crowded that evening, service was pleasant but quite slow. Entrees were very good. Salad was average. Pumpkin soufflé dessert very nice.
Our halibut entrees were delicious. The fall salad was creative and had a medley of ingredients.
I took my wife and son here and we loved it. The restaurant was quiet and beautiful, and every bite of the chef's tasting menu was perfect. Be advised: it's not cheap, but it's worth it.
Delightful atmosphere and beautifully presented and delicious food at reasonable prices. One caution - the gratuity was added automatically by the restaurant, so pay attention to your bill.
Excellent dinner! Was the last dinner of a weeklong vacation in Bar Harbor and Camden, and was by far the most enjoyable. Great venue and food. Will definitely be back!
Great food and great value....wine not overly marked up, dishes reasonable, service very solid. Enjoyed the experience immensely. Recommend to anyone visiting Camden as a must do for dinner.
Elegant Inn in beautiful Camden Maine on Main Street. Chef /owner Michael salmon creates monthly menus w 4-5 starters , entrees & dessert choices . Huge wine list
Everything was just delicious. We went two nights in a row. Plan to spend $100+ for 2 if drinking. Gratuity is included in bill. We loved it. Recommend reserving seat w open table. Only had a short wait in lovely Inn Living room. Check out the chefs cookbook, cooking classes & Tuscan Food Tour!
Lovely and cozy Inn atmosphere with delicious food at reasonable prices. Great service . Presentation was special - glassware, dishes, table settings. And of course the food. A special birthday celebration and evening.
You cannot go wrong with a meal at the Hartstone Inn!!
We were celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary. We had never been to the Hartstone Inn before. The food was delicious. We both had the Chef's tasting menu and we enjoyed all the courses. It was a wonderful meal and we will definitely go back again and recommend it to our customers here at Breakwater Vineyards.
Food was great (filet, soup, pork chop). Service was slow.
Very personalized, attentive service with visit from chef.
We celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary at the Hartstone Inn and had a memorable dining experience. The chef's tasting menu was exceptional from appetizer to dessert with the Grand Marnier soufflé providing a delicious and unique finish to our meal. The staff was outstanding and the pace of the meal was just right. Beautiful presentation at a very reasonable price.
Went there in a date without ever having been. Parking is challenging unless you are lucky enough to find something on the street or own a smaller car. We were seated right away. Service was excellent, though felt like we were being rushed out at the end. The good was spectacular, and there was great ambiance. The bar area is quaint. The drinks were very good. A bit expensive but well worth it.
Excellent presentation and taste. first rate restaurant.
WOW - our party of four on vacation thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
There is a limited menu but what they offer is done to perfection.
I had the chicken breast stuffed w spinach and Brie and it just melted in my mouth. Everyone expressed similar comment on their choices. The presentation was inspiring. The wine choices were superb & the pricing was appreciated since they were not aimed at gouging the "tourists". We all shared the apple crisp and soufflé - delish
When we visit Camden again, the Hartstone will definitely be on our list.
The peach tomatoe salad was divine. Food the best we had in Camden during our 2 week stay. And we had a lot of good food at other restaurants!
Good pretty good. Very rich. Service ok, but no interaction or rapport.
Limited menu was offered. Small portions. Wonderful chocolate souffle.
If you're interested in imaginative and always delicious food in a quiet atmosphere where good conversations can occur and where the chef and his staff care that you leave having had a wonderful dining experience, then get a reservation at the Hartstone. It's not possible to be disappointed.
Excellent meal. The tasting menu was well worth it.
Beautiful facility with nice designer touches and artwork. Well-known chef who once served Julia Child here (with high praise from her.)
They seemed confused about our dinner reservation which we made through Open Table and questioned us twice in front of other guests which we thought was rude.
Great attentive service. Beautiful old house converted to an inn. great food. Probably the best meal I had in Camden hands down. Definitely worth the visit
Fit for foodies and lovely service - seems we are making this a traditional dining spot on our annual visit to Maine.
Fabulous food, impeccable service - felt like a steal for the quality of food and service, highly recommended!
it is hard to duplicate a great meal I had here earlier in the week but I eagerly anticipated a return visit. Don't get me wrong, this is a very good restaurant, but I found that my entree (flank steak) was a bit over done and cool on delivery. The service was at times rushed and at times hard to communicate with the server who seemed to be new on the job. A far cry from the tremendous meal and service I had the other night. It might be fair to say...hit or miss. I will be back
Service and food were first rate! Presentation was brilliant every course of the meal, a nice departure from the in town pub scene
i have eaten at the Hartstone several times in the past 4 years and have never been disappointed. This week I was pleased to be able to get in last minute and was delighted from start to finish. The wait staff was attentive and unobtrusive. I got the Chef's choice and was pleased with every course. A fine pinot noir and a delicious peach martini in the cozy bar afterwards. My go to place in Camden
Dining room is pleasant and food is tasty but service is robotic and not fine dining
For our party of two a gratuity was automatically added at 18% which I thought presumptuous
Overall a decent meal in a decent setting but not exceptionsl
