Hart House Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is close to where I live and is in a lovely setting. It is an old converted home and my husband and I like it a lot. It is located close to a small theatre and an art gallery which we sometimes attend so the restaurant is convenient for us. Food is always good, and the service is usually very good too. Lunch the other day was lovely.
Nice ambiance in this Tudor-style mansion. It was a cold and rainy evening when we dined. The fireplace near the main door was so inviting creating a warm atmosphere. Meal choices, include appetizers, mid course, main and three course fixed priced offerings. Menus are subject to change. We were two couples and everyone was pleased with their food choices from the mussels & clams appetizers, the braised lamb shank and seared scallops mains. Mid size portions, good flavours. This writer began with a Manhattan cocktail - not the best I have ever tasted as it was missing angostura bitters and a tart cherry. The noise level which was a bit high for being about 3/4's full. None-the-less, the venue is very pleasant with local history and we had a window table permitting a view down to Deer Lake. Good, attentive service. Will be back in the summer to sit outside on the patio.
Our mom celebrated her 90th birthday and the wait staff and special dessert were thoughtful and made the event memorable. Staff kept the event quiet and just for our table and didn’t bring undue attention to us which was perfect for mom. She didn’t want any hoopla around the event. Many thanks to everyone for their consideration and recognizing the event with a special dessert!
It is difficult not to enjoy oneself in such lovely surroundings. I had Christmas brunch here with my 4 teenage sons, just a relaxing, festive meal, away from shopping malls and the hassle of the season. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant to the moment we left, we felt truly spoiled, with efficient and polite service and delicious meals amid beautiful Christmas decorations. The only time we felt neglected was when it took a long time to clear away the empty dishes, and what seemed like forever, to bring out our dessert. We didn't let that get in the way of our festive mood. We will be back.
I love that Hart House is carpeted with curtains and linen, it makes the noise level muted and is great for having a conversation with dining companions. I came with my 3 month old baby and the staff loved seeing her. Unfortunately there was nowhere to change her nappy, I ended up going upstairs and changing her nappy on the floor in a quiet corner, which wasnot ideal.
My sister and I treated our mother to brunch for her birthday. Overall, it was a very nice dining experience. Hart House is one of our favourite spots to dine. My son and his wife were married at Hart House in July, 2014. My sister said that it was the best wedding that she had ever attended! My kids surprised me with a 65th birthday party with all my extended family last year! Hart House holds a special place in my heart!
We wanted a nice dinner for a celebration and Hart House did not disappoint. We had the seared scallops, and lamb shanks for mains, and lemon tart and chocolate bar for dessert. All were delicious. We both were able to find a wine by the glass that we enjoyed, a red and a rose. Nice mix of local and imported wines on the list.
The restaurant is very nice for the location, reasonably quiet to have a friendly visit with friends, good food, good service. They might want to make a deal with the day care next door to use some of their parking spots on busy days - like the Christmas season - it was fairly empty.
We had a birthday brunch here, and the food was fabulous. Loved the lively, cozy atmosphere, turn of the century feel, impeccable and attentive service, and the efficiency of it all. Next time I would encourage the chef to be a bit more generous with the hollandaise sauce, it's not just for decoration.
If HH is going to offer a Sunday Brunch, they need to consider that families are in the restaurant. This means that there are children and HH should cater a chrildren’s menu. They should always consider serving children first especially if there is some delays in the kitchen. They should not advertise bacon on the menu when all they serve is pork bellies. Music in such a fine dining restaurant should not be loud and should not mimic the Keg or Earl’s restaurants.
Coffee was always cold and not hot enough. Thank you
Hart House sits in the beautiful setting of Deer Lake Park, surrounded by forest and in view of Deer Lake. Our lunch experience was memorable for creative, tasty and generous size portions, enjoyed all the more by warm sunshine pouring in the windows near our table. Service is attentive and professional, the wine list interesting. Bottled sparkling water was poured as part of the meal, warm fresh bread offered, and a delicious chantilly cream filled mini chocolate cup to finish our meal. We ordered the roasted shaved Brussels sprout, grape and hazelnut salad and the express lunch of breaded veal panini with leek and potato soup. Beautiful and tasty touches with each entree. Hart House continues to impress, a perfect experience.
