Harry's - Masaryk Ratings and Reviews
The food experience was pretty much perfect. However the service that night was terrible. All the waiters looked confused and our of place. About 4 of them attended our table of 4 and it still took them 10 minutes or more to bring some salt and pepper to the table. I would recommend the place for the great meat/food but make sure you are very patient when you go to eat there.
The Cook-Chef is going to hate me ...
This was my second time to Harry's .. a famous Steak House in Polanco CDMX , Mexico .. I forgave them the 1st time I went thinking my choice of steak cut may have been wrong ...
Well ,looking at the menu I convinced my wife that we should try it again .. A delightful ambience , nice and typical efficient Mexican service and eclectic wine list and oh yes please a "White truffle " special menu ...We had the lobster tacos to share for the appetiser ... tasted like they had been soaked in extra salt , by Mexican standards very average ... Still the breads and sauces are nice and the Tequila followed by the Californian Pinot was a delightful surprise ... My wife had the Petit NY USDA Steak with Creamed Spinach and I had the Pork chop with white truffles and French style potatoes ... The steak was tough and wafer thin , the pork chop with the truffles ($100USD) chewy , the creamed spinach was like cut grass with cream poured over it ... such a disappointment ...Well the Wine was great ... To try and test even further the menu we ordered a Lemon Pie , arrived looked fantastic and a huge portion for two to share ... this seemed to take a long time ... as we tried to section this up ... it was frozen ... Maybe being a holiday weekend and a Saturday night the chef was away ...so disappointed .. I think the way meat is cooked at Harry's could be an issue .. It's placed through a broiling type process , seems to toughen the beef ... Still we tried , beautiful decor well located , great service and great wine list ... but all three courses failed to meet up to the description on the menu ... Maybe if the Lemon Pie had also been run through the Broiler we may have at least enjoy the Pie ... So sad , this has one of the best reputations in CDMX .. Once bitten twice shy ... Not going back a third time ... Sorry ... Oh , the potatoes were OK ...no , good !! Peso 5307 ... $280.00 USD for two , the wine was Peso 885 ..$47.00USD .
Super bad service combined with average food.
The service was so unorganised and super strange!
The 3 waiters run always away, I could not finish my order several times. They haven’t been concentrated a single moment to the guests. If I would not be ashamed I would never tip them.
The truffeled French Fries were horrible. The rest was average.
And the waterfall infront of my face let me feel sick after a while.
The restaurant has a great layout and ambiance. They have a decent selection of wine. That's where the good part of the experience ends...this easily was the worst steak I have ever had. I requested medium rare and got medium well. The cuts of meat were chewy, I ordered the Bone in NY Strip (Kansas City). Another diner with me had to send his steal back, as the quality was extremely poor. Man, this place was bad. I did like the complimentary cotton candy dessert.
I have rarely received such unethical service at any restaurant. I went for dinner with a group of business acquaintances. We split the bill, and I asked to add a tip that was well within the normal bounds of tipping in Mexico, where this restaurant is located. The others at my table asked to add a larger tip, which was quite generous. (I didn't join them in that because it would have violated my company's expense policy.) The wait staff brought me a credit card receipt that included that larger amount of tip, not the level I had agreed to. When I asked them to change it to what I had asked them to add, they refused and said that that was impossible because the transaction was already run. I protested, asking them to cancel and rerun the transaction with the right amount of tip. They refused. It was very embarrassing to me to have to engage in that conversation at the table, in front of my other colleagues, and it's breathtakingly inappropriate and irresponsible for the wait staff to have acted in this way.
Although I had already requested an itemized bill, which my company requires for expense reimbursement, they never gave me one in 10 minutes of my waiting for one, even after asking twice. I returned the next day to the restaurant to request an itemized bill, and the wait staff was exceptionally unfriendly. When I also asked that they correct the amount of tip that had been charged to my bill the night before, they again refused.
I highly recommend not going to this restaurant until they replace their exceptionally rude and unprofessional wait staff, who are focused only on their own incomes, not the convenience of (nor even the company expense reimbursement requirements of) their guests.
