Harry Caray's Tavern - Navy Pier Ratings and Reviews
The location is great, and the atmosphere is what you expect it to be. It's kind of a maze so working your way around to see the sports memorabilia is a little overwhelming and you'll probably get lost at least once. The food was sub-par and the service was lacking. They were very accommodating to make a reservation, but when we arrived they weren't even ready for our party. Overall, it was a pretty poor experience and we won't return.
The food was delicious and served fast. We had a reservation for 1pm but arrived 30 mins early and yet were seated right away. I highly recommend the smokehouse burger and coleslaw! Yum!! It was cool to see all the memorabilia displayed throughout the restaurant. We will definitely be back!
We got caught in traffic and arrived 8 minutes after our reservation time. To their credit, they called my cell phone. Unfortunately, I was without a signal for most of the drive and did not get the message until we were seated for lunch. The Host noted our tardiness and said it would be a few minutes, so after waiting for over 25 minutes and watching three parties arriving after us get seated we asked the Host about our table. He embarrassingly apologized noting he had forgotten to reenter our names during the rush that came we originally entered. I wrote all that, so I could demonstrate the level of service that followed. We were immediately lead to a table, provided complimentary drinks and were constantly checked on by the manager to make certain that we were happy with the food and service. The food was great (we had the burgers) and our waitress was friendly and attentive. It was my wife's birthday. What started as a disappointment, ended following a leisurely lunch with a really nice dessert that turned out to be complimentary when we received our bill. Potential Disaster becomes a great memory. We plan on returning soon to try other items on the menu and enjoy the sports memorabilia that surrounds everything.
This restaurant should be named "Harry Caray's Lite". Yes, it is a Harry Caray's restaurant, has a lot of sports memorabilia around, lots of athletes' pictures on the walls and TV's showing every possible game. However, that is where the comparison stops. Instead of steaks and salmon, this place has burgers and sandwiches. The service was just fair. When we sat down for dinner before a play at the pier, there were only two other tables occupied. We ordered well done fries with our entrees and the waiter told us that he could not promise that but would ask if the cook could do it. Really? It was not like we were asking for an unusual preparation of an exotic dish in the midst of a very busy dinner scene. It was leaving fries in the fryer a bit longer for the burger and the fish and chips in an almost empty restaurant. Apparently, the cook relented and cooked them extra for us, but the attitude of the waiter did not help. Delivery of some items was very fast (dinner served while still eating my salad) while other parts were very slow (he asked if I wanted a refill on my drink in the middle of dinner but it did not arrive until I had finished. Overall, the place is OK, but I would not go back. If I want the Harry Caray's experience, I'll go to the real place.
Worst Chicago restaurant I've reviewed. The hostesses couldn't find my reservation--not that it was crowded. While we were eating, I got an email from Open Table saying we hadn't checked in. When we left, we told the hostess about the note, and she said we had been checked in with Open Table, but couldn't point to anything to prove that. Open Table had no such information--I got my points only after contacting Open Table (which has been most helpful). The menu is NOT the menu of the restaurant on Kinzie. That is not made clear on the website. The food was borderline edible. My wife's food, obviously previously frozen, was served cold. The server did take it back and bring out a warm dish. There are lots of places to eat on Navy Pier. This place should be on anyone's list.
Service was friendly and speedy. My cocktail (one of the mules) was average at best. Our pretzel sticks appetizer was overdone and the accompanying dipping sauce was tasteless. My husband said the burger was good, albeit on the small side and I had the BarBQ chicken pizza (without chicken) which was also good. Overall I wouldn't run back but if you're going to be at Navy Pier and want a quick, casual spot, it fills the bill.
We went for the Cubs game Sunday - it was quiet when we first arrived around 6 pm. Got a table easily. We were disappointed that the TVs on Fox32 had satellite issues - you could see the picture but it had a lot of pixel issues - we hoped maybe it would be better by game time. We ordered beer which was fine - we ordered the pretzel appetizer - it came with 4 - there were two of us and we each ate one but felt they were microwaved and too mushy and the beer cheese had no flavor - we told the waitress when she checked on us we did not care for them. We each ordered a personal pizza - but two slices into both of ours we were again disappointed - the crust was crackery and the cheese had no flavor - it was so bad we decided to leave and go somewhere else. The GOOD part of this story is the waitress knew we did not like the food and only charged us for the beer - we were so sad because we thought it would have been cool to watch the World Series there, but not so much. Thanks to them for at least not charging us for the food.
Extremely disappointed! Waitress was horrible. Returned food as it was undercooked and cold in the middle, ordered again and it still wasn't right. Was in town celebrating with friends... Dropped over $200 just on drinks and food. Complained to the manager who was extremely rude. We go to Navy Pier all the time. Definitely won't return here. I will take my business elsewhere on the Pier!
Headed to Harry Caray's for brunch before the Bears' game on Sunday. The food and drinks were great - reasonably priced and we received a voucher for free water taxi to the game. Service could have been better. Our waitress would approach her other 2 tables and then walk away before checking in on us. Certainly would have been more efficient! Otherwise, VERY enjoyable!
I came to Harry Caray's Tavern to celebrate my best friends birthday. This restaurant was very beautiful! It was chill, laid back, and fun! Our server was fantastic, he went above and beyond to make sure that we were always happy! However, I was not to fond of certain foods or drinks, but it doesn't stop me and my best friend from wanting to come back again. Harry Caray's Tavern is still awesome to us!
Not food allergy friendly. MGT didn't seem to know much on HR topic and they had no allergies listed on menu.
If you had question beyond hehe menu listed don't expect an immediate or intelligent answer.
Front desk and wait time for someone to seat us was also very slow. Overall place didn't seem organized
