Harry Browne's Ratings and Reviews
Regrettably, the service was very slow. Our dinner for 4 took over 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. The restaurant was not crowded. There were several empty tables. Not everyone ordered 3 courses and no one ordered drinks or a complicated dish. The long wait did impact negatively our enjoyment of the food itself which was okay.
We made our reservation in advance and arrive precisely on time. Instead of getting the table we reserved in the front of the restaurant by the window we were placed in the back of the place. We were told that the table we requested was unavailable, reserved for a couple who was celebrating their anniversary. THAT was US, or a serious disappointment since we were never informed of the table's unavailabilitty before arriving. The table we requested for our anniversary remained unfilled and was given to a person who arrived more than a half hour after we arrived. The meal-tuna dish I received was drab and overcook -a sad dish. The side dishes were unappetizing, on the greasy side. The only bright side was that our waiter who was attentive, helpful and very professional.
Harry Browne's seemed tired. The food was OK but I expect better than that from a resteraunt. Especially for steak which my wife had, go elsewhere. The squab that I had was interesting and well cooked. Service was excellent setting up the tables around us for lunch the next day should have waited until we left.
We have been several times and its usually a 3.5-4. Tonight the server Tony was rude and unwelcoming, not that uncommon for Harry Browns but he really laid it on thick. He never brought or offered bread and when we requested it, we received cold/dry bread. We each ordered 30+ dollar steaks, Tony never checked to see if they were cooked correctly and pretty much ignored us (it was not busy so cant be bc of that). My filet was drenched in a flavorless bbq sauce (thats not what the menu described but that is what it was) and my husbands rib eye was diner quality, really thin with no marbling. The empanada app crabmeat was really over mixed and was not lump (yes I know it Maryland but some places still try to get away with it) which made the crabmeat stringy and it just wasn’t good. The cream of crab soup is usually amazing but we didn’t get it this time which I regret since this will be the last time going there with so many other better options. I guess that is what you get when you make a last minute reservation and this was all that was available (for obvious reasons:-).
I have been a weekly lunch time customer bringing my clients for over 4 years. Loved the food and service. However Saturday Dec 2nd we had a dinner reservation for 6:30 made a week in advance to celebrate a special occasion with close friends. We arrived at 6:30 only to be told there were no tables despite our reservation and to go upstairs to the bar and they would call us when they had a table. The bar was packed, no seating. After 20 minutes we were able to flag a server that helped us get a drink. We waited over an hour for our reserved table. Once seated at 7:45 we had no waiter for 15 minutes. At 8:05 feeling embarrassed I went looking for someone to assist. I found the owner (Rusty?) shared my concerns and he assured me someone would be by soon. Waiter showed up asked for drinks and bread. Drinks arrived late at different times, never got the bread. Entrees were very late and mediocre. Owner never checked in to see how we were doing. Bill was close to $400 as expected. But never dreamed we would be treated so poorly at what was always one of our favorites. Client lunches will never be there again. Kathy Davis
When we arrived on time for our 6:30 reservation, we were told by the hostess that they were "running late" and she sent us upstairs to the crowded and extremely loud bar. The two bartenders were very busy and it took forever to get our drinks. We finally were brought down to our table at 7:30. The table was nice and the server was first rate. We had salads, crab cakes and the chicken with a nice bottle of wine. The food and atmosphere in the dining room were excellent, so the night ended up much better than it started.
We were visiting Annapolis and had an early concert that night. My husband's colleagues recommended this restaurant to us. We have eaten at a number of places before but somehow missed this one. The waiter informed us that the chef was Italian which you would not surmise from the name of the place. The restaurant has been there for 40 years. The food was very good, the service was excellent, they had a very nice wine list. We were too full for dessert but they had a great selection. We would recommend the place and we intend to eat there again in the future.
Good thing the flavor of the food was very good because the temperature our hot food was warm. Yet our waiter was quite timely with serving our dishes, meaning we didn’t wait long for our food. The crab soup is delicious. The lamb lollipops would have been excellent, if served hot but they were good. The wine was very good and the price was excellent. I would go again.
We LOVE coming here! It is one of our favorite restaurants in Annapolis. It is close to everything downtown, service is impeccable and everything on the menu is good. They rotate the menu seasonally, but have different menus for lunch, dinner, brunch... We come at least monthly to keep on trying new items.
This was my second time here. First time was not so great but I had a living social coupon for $50 off dinner for 2. This experience was much better in the food department. Service was a bit slower than the last time, our waiter seemed more attentive to other tables than ours.
Had a wonderful dinner. I had a steak perfectly cooked and my wife had crab cakes that were wonderful. 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant I received a call from the restaurant to let me know I had dropped $10.00 at the table. I remembered my wife had given me some tip money for our Left drive home and told them to please give it to the waiter. (Rickey) Was nice to know someone was looking out for us.
Located across State Circle from the Maryland State House, Harry Browne's is a great place for the view, people watching and just relaxing amidst the bustle of the town. The food is uniformly excellent and the variety fills the gap between comfort and fine dining. The specials are a must try. The happy Hour is among the best in the whole Annapolis area. Service is professional, quiet and always appropriate. Desserts are superb and worth the calories.
What a wonderful evening we had. Their were six of us and nothing could have been better. Tony took care of us and the service was impeccable. The food was just perfection on all six plates. The table was ours for the evening. No rush no fuss. My husband and I wil return and also recommend this place to everyone.
My wife and I came here years ago on our 5th anniversary and were glad to finally return. The food was fantastic, from the huge plate of oysters, to the salad we shared, my wife's ribeye, and my seafood risotto. The restaurant is beautiful and we felt fortunate to be seated at a table by the window, which looks out onto the state capitol building. Several minor complaints: first, when we arrived, we waited patiently for the hostess. Another couple came in after us and a man who I assume was the manager decided to help them first, having ignored us for a few minutes (as a side note that should be irrelevant, my wife and I had a reservation, were well dressed, and could not have been missed in the small doorway). Fortunately, the very kind hostess realized what was going on, which might explain how we ended up by the window. Second, our server was helpful with suggestions about food and wine, but he had a somewhat dismissive air about him. More than once he turned heel and walked away quickly without letting my wife or I finish a thought. Third, the upstairs bar was reserved for a party, and was so packed that it was nearly impossible to get to the restrooms. Fortunately, I'm young(ish) and remember the bar scene, so I didn't mind aggressively getting through the crowd with my wife following close behind, but it seemed like a poor setup.
Food was great except my husband's brocoli which was unedible. The rest of the meal was fabulous though. Had drinks upstairs before dinner. Really liked the ambiance and bartending staff. Our dinner server was attentive and friendly. We have eaten here before and always been pleased. I do recommend it. A bit pricey so save for a special occasion.
We had a nice dinner this past Saturday at Harry Browne's. I love the fact that they have Chateau Montelena by the bottle and by the glass! The only real disappoint was the Crab Empenada. The crabmeat didn't taste fresh. I wouldn't recommend it. We both had the Caesar Salad, which was good. I had the Spinach Risotto with Shrimp and Scallops. It was fantastic! The Scallops were huge and perfectly cooked. The Risotto and Shrimp were excellent as well.
My husband had the Risotto Special with Crab, Shrimp and Lobster in a tomato sauce. It was ok, but we both agreed that the Spinach Risotto dish was much better. We split the Creme Brulee. It was good, but I thought it was a little runny --- I've had much better. Our waiter was a little pushy with ordering. We were in no rush, and repeatedly had to tell him that we were taking our time.
It was nice to by back to this neighborhood gem. With a few tweaks, it could really shine.
Service was erratic. Guest plate was removed from the table prior to my dinner being finished. Server left table and it was difficult to obtain bill to settle.
Entree was not as good as described and price was not commensurate with presentation.
For the amount of money involved , a different restaurant should have been chosen.
Lovely food. Good quality. Good atmosphere. Everything We ordered was delicious. Our waiter was excellent. The only thing I felt was off putting was the hostess. She is so serious. Kinda looks you up and down and it's as if you aren't good enough to eat there. Sorry about that, but I have eaten there four times and did not find that lady friend lying. A nice smile and a nice greeting would be appreciated.
We happened upon this quaint little spot while on a weekend getaway to Annapolis. It was quiet the night we visited, but still had a wonderful time people watching and enjoying dinner. We opted for a Charcuterie Plate to start, followed by a split Caesar Salad. The Charcuterie we found to be mundane. The Caesar was very good, and dressed perfectly. For entrees we selected the Pasta Bolognese and the Salmon. Both were outstanding. For dessert, we had the Crème Brule, also outstanding. We brought our own wine, but there seemed to be a bit of confusion about the policy, but they did open and serve our wine, adding a corkage fee. I would call to confirm the policy, as our server, who was very nice, seemed unsure. I would definitely return on my next visit, and suggest you do as well, if visiting Annapolis.
We celebrated a birthday & combined dinner at Harry Brown's with a play at the Colonial Players Theater. Overall a nice evening. We hadn't been to Harry Brown's in the past couple of years. Our selected foods were very good and we enjoyed our salads and main courses.
