Harry & Izzy's - Northside Ratings and Reviews
We think the quality has tanked exponentially since they introduced the new menu, the food hasn’t been the same. We used to go quite often but now there are better options. The shrimp cocktail and the spicy meatballs are still excellent though. Only items that are worth ordering. Go somewhere else for steak.
One of the best steaks I have ever had. The steaks are pricey of course, but that is the going rate for the high end steakhouses. The shrimp cocktail lived up to expectations. The Ceasar salad was very good and the cheesecake was outstanding. Also, the service was
Quick check in and seating with reservation. Upper level was VERY warm. Uncomfortable at times. My food was not very good. Potato pancakes were hard. Brussels sprouts were too large and very tough. They had over seasoned with red pepper which left them uneatable. They did take these items off our bill. Three toasted ravioli appetizer was $12! Overpriced for the quality.
I usually love Harry & Izzy’s. This time I brought and out of town friend who has heard me rave about it many times. We are sat in a dark corner where there wasn’t even room for our arms and the table was severely wobbling. Not one to be a complainer, my companion pulled the table away from the wall - I asked to be re-seated bc it was very uncomfortable. I felt incredibly.l cramped and I’m a small woman. We were seat again without issue but then my guests steak came severely undercooked. Again he would’ve eaten. It was very disappointing. The wait staff and management were great. The kitchen a however needs some help and the seating arrangement was very poor to shove a 2-top in the back corner of the room behind the bar. Only small children would begin to feel comfortable having a meal in the corner there. My first - but very - disappointing trip to this establishment. Mostly I’m sad that my friend will likely never be interested in coming back.
I went to Harry's with my friends for dinner. We had the shrimp cocktail and calamari for appetizers. They were great. We also had the ribye for dinner along with mashed potatoes. I had ordered my ribye to be medium rare. Although it was very juicy, I thought that the meat was quite fibrous and lacked in taste.
Food was very good-steaks and salads. Portions were much larger than expected. Shared wedge salad and they split onto 2 plates. Was large serving and can't imagine eating a whole one! Recommend sharing salads. Also ordered side f onion rings and green tomatoes. Both were much larger than expected! Very good food. Acoustics make it hard to hear and talk easily. Sound carried and was hard to hear across our round booth table.
My husband and I have come here every year for the past 4 years to celebrate achievements in our life, to kick off the Christmas shopping season and to enjoy a little quiet time away from the kids. We never leave disappointed. The meal is always outstanding. The wait staff is always super friends, but this year our waiter was absolutely wonderful. Kind, attentive and treated us like this WAS a special occasion. (which it certainly was). Thank you for another wonderful memory with my husband. We look forward to returning next November.
This is a great restaurant! My server Jodi was awesome. I had the NY strip which was great and of course, the shrimp cocktail!!
The side was "sautéed green beans." Little did I know that they also contained many onions and peppers. Since I have an onion allergy I could not eat them. It would be helpful if they listed the ingredients in the side dishes as there were almost as many onions as green beans.
We have dined at both locations for lunch, diner, and some special occasions and almost always have a wonderful experience. I was sorry to say this time was different and I hope it was just a fluke I would hate to loose this dining option. The service was as attentive as always and very appreciated. The food was the problem , the shrimp cocktail sauce was mild there was no a minute of oh my eyes are watering, very sad. I ordered the small filet medium well with Izzy sauce. My husband ordered the small filet medium with the mashed potatoes. My steak was very undercooked we thought we might trade since his was extremely well done no pink and no juice, his potatoes were not tasty and were served room temperature at best. I just want to bring it to their attention that perhaps they need to be careful with the quality of food that you can depend on.
Always great food and great service. The server we had recognized us from before and remembered what we ordered for food and drink! That is amazing considering all of the people who pass through the restaurant on a daily basis.
I've never had a bad or mediocre meal at this restaurant.
Everything was wonderful. Had calamari for appetizer. It was lightly breaded. Had the prime rib sandwich was was huge, it was enough for two people to share. We both had take home sacks. I had mine for lunch the next day, still tasted delicious. Loved the house made french onion dip.
Obviously I could ramble on and on, but I will just make it short and not so sweet.
H&I is known for steaks and each of our three steaks were cooked correctly....unfortunately they all tasted charred. The 8 oz. filet was medium/rare (as ordered) and had very little "juice" coming out it. The char flavor was overpowering.
Our server was the opposite of a bundle of energy and had zero personality; that is poor combo in any industry.
Overall it was very disappointing experience and we will not be back. We have been here a few times in the past year and feel this is a restaurant in need of a wake-up call. .......definitely over-hyped and over-priced. I think my money will be going to one of the other Northside restaurants in the future.
By the way, putting a family in a very chilly back room with no one around to start the evening does not send out a message that they are welcomed guests.
Thank Goodness I was using a gift card!!!
We have dined here many times, but this experience for our family of 3 was very poor. Two of us ordered filets and the steaks were served cold. Should have been obvious to the kitchen staff as we ordered an herb butter on top of the steak...and the butter could not melt on top of the steak. The third person ordered a filet slider and she couldn't eat it as it was mainly grizzle. We had to ask for bread...and wait five minutes for a fork before I could try to eat my cold filet. We sent all three entrees back to the kitchen. Too bad as this had been one of our favorites for a great dining experience. Not sure if we will ever return.
3rd visit in last year, doesn't disappoint. Everything tastes amazing and on point once again. B.R. Cohn silver label Cabernet $50. House chopped salad $8, Fried green tomatoes $7 as appetizer instead of with entree; main course: 2x 6 oz Filet mignon medium $41, mashed Redskin potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts with candied bacon $8, 3 prawns w/drawn butter $12, creme brulee $7 =174+tax+tip.
