Harry & Izzy's - Northside Ratings and Reviews
We have been H&I before, and it was good food - not exceptional. This time was much the same, good food, not "great" food. Its your above average steak house. Each time I've been, the steak was ordered medium and came out rare. Once refired it was ok, but the rest of the table feels uncomfortable waiting on your improperly prepared meal. For a steak house, I really struggle to understand how a cook that prepares so many steaks each and every day can miss the mark on cooking a steak. Prepare for about $60-$70 per person w/tip if you have 1 glass of wine.
New Years Eve and my wedding anniversary. Had to find a place that was awesome so we decided on Harry & Izzy’s. Not disappointed at all. The service staff is second and none and the food was excellent as usual. Oh and the complimentary dessert was delicious as well! Colleen was our server and she was very good!
Didn't come close to measuring up to St. Elmo's. Ribeye Steak was less quality than I ever remember getting, mashed potatoes were "soupey". Shrimp Cocktail sauce was hot as usual, but shrimp were limp, and chewy. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'll go downtown and get the original quality.
Our family of four dined here on Christmas Eve. Food was delicious and service was fantastic. Signature shrimp cocktail did not disappoint, Brussels sprouts were a nice side with our steaks, salmon, and barbeque chicken entrees. Erin was our waitress. She was friendly and knowledgeable as she made a red wine suggestion for my wife which my wife loved. It was a fantastic meal.
I love Harry & Izzy's! Besides having St. Elmo's World Famous Shrimp Cocktail, they also have the same quality of steaks. They have a nice wine list, with a good selection of wines by the glass. They have craft beers on draft. It is on the pricey side, but if you stick to sandwiches (which are amazing), you shouldn't go over $100 for 2 people (with drinks).
My first visit to the North side location a little over a year ago was fairly disappointing so I would go downtown whenever I had friends in from out of town. Decided to give it another chance but feel like nothing has really changed which is a shame.
We visited on Saturday night for an 8:45 reservation and were seated promptly but it took a while for the waitress to come to the table. I'm not unreasonable and I understand that a Saturday night is probably the busiest. When our waitress arrived with the menus and to take our drink order I personally felt like we were an inconvenience and the fact that we wanted to look over the wine menu seemed to irritate our server. The shrimp cocktail was as perfect as it's always been but the Ahi was under cooked. Rather than bring it up, we just pushed the dish to the side. It was a little busy but by now it's 9:30 and waning down. When they took the full plate away, I was surprised they didn't ask why so much of it was still there.
In the grand scheme of things it wasn't a horrible visit but when the bill exceeds $100 for two people, I would have liked to have left feeling a little better about the experience. I guess I'm just used to the service I receive downtown and if I want to eat closer to home, I'll find another option.
