Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill
Great food and ambiance. We went for brunch and the buffet had lot of option. Bloody Mary was really good too.
Girl’s weekend; mom-daughters trip.
Service very slow and choppy. Waited 15 mins for drinks. More than that for dessert. Ordered wine w dinner and dinner was halfway done before wine came. Ordered potatoes w steak and they didn’t come out together-waiter forgot to place the order, so I didn’t get them until halfway through my steak.
Overall, dinner took close to 3 hours, and all we had was one drink, two apps, two entrees, and dessert. I like a leisure dinner but that’s ridiculous. For $200 meal certainly expect much better.
We'll be back! An exceptional dining experience in a beautiful setting with fantastic and attentive staff. We felt incredibly welcome and appreciated (even after a long, hot day at a nearby winery). We couldn't pick just a few items so we ordered a LOT, more dishes than our small table could accommodate! We weren't disappointed by a single selection. We look forward to returning with friends and family.
Beautiful place and wonderful service
We had a wonderful time together
Beautiful setting for a Mother's Day weekend brunch-- the food was plentiful and tasty, atmosphere was just what we were looking for. Would recommend going to friends.
Amazing food and a beautiful location. Our service was a little slow. Not the food coming out, but just our server in general was not very attentive and took awhile to take orders and refill beverages.
A very nice place to take friends or family. Great service and wonderful food.
What a beautiful place for a date night. Very nice and well trained staff. Lighting was a bit bright and even though the restaurant wasn't crowded it was a bit loud. Lots of drinking going on! Overall excellent quality of food and service.
Visited for the first time on our Anniversary. Everything that night exceeded our expectations. From the courteous and friendly welcome, to the kindness of the server, to (of course) the food we tasted. I was excited that bone marrow was an option for the appetizer and I went for it. Did not even notice on the menu description, until my plate was brought to me, that it included a serving of braised oxtail. It was to die for! The veal porterhouse also stood out for us, that night: flavorful and tender as it should be!
I am generally not a dessert person, but these were really special: none was overly sweet, and a lot of different tastes, aromas, and textures were present in both the desserts we tried that night, the Zeppole and the Bavarian Hazelnut Honey cake. The presentation of the Honey Cake was fantastic as well.
My husband does not drink alcohol and was impressed by the offer of interesting mocktails: finally great options even for adults who do not necessarily want/can drink alcohol!
All in all, a great dining experience that made our evening a special one.
The ambiance, food and service are reliably excellent. This may be our new favorite celebration, relaxing, or spur of the moment "let's get out" place to go.
It took 90 minutes to get our food the prawns were not cooked all the way and had to be sent back.
We had an early dinner so it was very sparsely attended which is exactly what we were looking for. We arrived 10 minutes early and we were immediately seated which was very nice. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. We had a delightful time and will return.
For the prices and being a luxury hotel and restaurant, I believe that atmosphere could be more formal. We were sitting in the grill area before dinner and heard pop music playing and were surprised. But, even more so when the music was also playing in Harriman’s. To enhance the atmosphere, classical music or jazz would be better received. For portions were fairly small for the prices compared to other five star steak houses
Everything was excellent - food, service, ambience. Everything we expected for a dinner celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary.
Excellent experience. Great food and service. Has improved CONSIDERABLY compared to its early days (it was forgettable back then). Everything was cooked perfectly. This chef has it all together. Ernest provided memorably great service. Highest recommendation for a special occasion dinner. We will definitely be repeat customers. I know this may be heresy, but I would rather come here than another semi local "Inn" (generally when referring to this location it is referred to as "The Inn"). The ONLY misstep is the bread, this could use some work (or at least a crust).
First time going.
Food was great! Bread, steak, salmon, crab cake (huge), grilled brussel sprout salad, asparagus...all excellent. We sat outside (first ones this year).
Wonderful view of the lawn and area. After dimmer we hung out indoors watching basketball.
Overall, terrific experience, and one we will repeat.
As usual, Harriman's exceeds expectations with tremendous and attentive service, exceptional cuisine, and serene atmosphere. It's an indulgent yet worthy dining experience that will leave you satiated and looking forward to your next visit. Thank you again for a wonderful evening of delectable and crave-worthy fare.
My niece graduated from a primary school and came to US from Japan with my parents. It is her first time coming to US.
A very nice restaurant with noteworthy excellent service. The food, while good, was not quite as I would expect from an otherwise outstanding establishment.
We love brunch at Harrimans but were disappointed that the Omelette Station and some other food items had less choices due to an event in the space where brunch is normally housed. It did not feel like the typical Harrimans wonderful brunch. It was good but not the same excellence as normal.
Great quality food and good options from the bloody mary bar, breakfast buffet, omelet station and dessert bar. Service was great and they called you by name which just seemed really personal.
We had Sunday brunch at the Harriman Grille for our 41st wedding anniversary. Our waiter was pleasant enough in the beginning – he took our drink order and pointed the way to the brunch. It took him 20 minutes to arrive back with my hot tea and after that we never saw him again. He never came back to refill our coffee cups or our water glasses. He never came back to ask how the meal was going. We had to sit amongst dirty dishes as we ate our dessert. And in the end we had to search him out in the restaurant to get our check – we found him at the hostess stand talking to the hostess and laughing. Finally we got our check from him without a word of apology. When we were about to leave I asked to speak to the manager to let him know of our disappointing experience. Staff pointed him out to me - the manager was also hanging out at the hostess stand talking to the hostess. Why wasn’t he out on the floor making sure his waiting staff was doing their jobs? Overall a very disappointing experience. The resort needs to put as much time and money into training their staff as they do decorating the resort.
Wonderful! We will be back❤️
Terrific service and food. No need to leave the grounds. Be aware, if you order a dessert, they are enormous and impossible for 2 people to finish.
Don't usually write reviews but this really ticked me off.
Ordered the veal chop and Prime KC bone in strip. Both undercooked and had to be sent back. Then, strip was inedible. I eat steak regularly at some of the finest steakhouses and this was inedible. Permeated with sinew, vein and gristle I literally ate three bites from what I could cut through and then gave up. After the second temp check by server, which we acknowledged was fine, I was never asked how my steak or meal was. Someone else removed my plate of what looked like mangled road kill and never said a word. Whatever. Sixty bucks wasted. My wife's veal was better.
Discouraged we went to the very nice bar area to relax with a drink. After 15 min of sitting a a table with dirty glasses I finally politely asked a server if there was anyone serving and she curtly said I'll "I'll be there in a minute". 10 min later she came back. Of course if I had just gone to the bar and stiffed the server I would've had two drinks in the time it took her to get to us. I enjoy the Mt Defiance absenthe drip presentation and thought that would be fun, but instead go a glass of absenthe with two plastic straws in it, and the drip spoon, and a bit of attitude (probably from being too busy) from the server. I always like attitude when I'm paying top dollar. No drip, no presentation. At the risk of sounding like a steak and liquor snob I will say my expectations were not met. I am willing to pay for quality and a memorable experience. Although I wasn't charged for the absenthe, the quality and experience were lacking. The price tag was not. I would suggest you find a place where your expectations and the price tag come together for a fun evening. I was so ticked off I went and cancelled my brunch reservations for a party of 5 for later in the month.
Harrimans is a real treat! We celebrated our anniversary there and were very impressed. The service was excellent and Terry very attentive. The menu is outstanding. The small plates, like the burrata and the green/white asparagus were quite good. For entrees, we had the mushroom gnocchi with a side lobster tail, and the chicken. The chicken was a tad salty, but well cooked otherwise. We were treated to a gratis dessert of fabulous brownies in honor of our anniversary, which was nice. Beautiful view of the blue horses outside (after dark). Highly recommend.
Food and service was excellent. Daniel, our server, was extremely knowledgable and attentive to our needs throughout the dining experience.
Truly wonderful brunch experience! We enjoyed foods resplendent of quality organic ingredients. Loved the warm Pinot noir strawberry compote Chef Innovation present throughout the menu offerings; especially in pastry pairings - fresh ethereal orange flavors lovingly whipped up in feather light icing adorning fresh from the garden carrot cake - so appreciated the lightness of this confection - and a perfectly sized baileys and chocolate mouse - service warm and attentive; service aspect reminded me of windows on the water (NYC twin towers) - very high end experience
I always get the halibut and lentils- it is always marvelous. It never disappoints .
Brent and Terry are awesome servers.
Enjoyed our dinner at Harrimans and our waiter was very attentive. The dry-aged NY strip was excellent, and the roasted beets were delicious. The seafood platter, while very tasty, was a bit too salty though, as was the Branzino (and I like a lot of salt...).
Harriman’s never disappoints. Extraordinary service from Sally, gorgeous plating, and of course mouthwatering cuisine, all in San elegant yet comfortable setting.
Harriman’s provides an unparalleled dining experience. Starting with the friendly and helpful host staff, you’re invited into a quiet and beautiful dining room. The wait staff (ask for Daniel) provided exceptional care and had a wealth of knowledge of the menu and all possible options. The food was phenomenal - one of the best filets I’ve ever had. The on-staff pastry chef provided a wealth of options for dessert...all of them great choices. One warning - the chocolate “diablo” is excellent, but will feed like 6-8!
Late valentines dinner. Love Salamander Inn because you can enjoy the fireplace lobby and the casual bar before the meal. Dinner was delicious and Harriman’s is set away from the noisier areas so we enjoyed quiet conversation. The staff was professional and courteous.
We had brunch on a Saturday, the only day on a long weekend which I could get a reservation. The setting was lovely, the service was very good and food was well presented and we had many choices.
I surprised my wife with a trip to Salamander for Valentine’ Day. We had an excellent evening.
Harrimans was serving an adventurous fixed price meal for supper & we really enjoyed the variety of tasty, interesting dishes. It was a bit expensive but included well-selected wine pairings with each course.
The sommelier visited our table periodically to talk about the wines which we enjoyed and our waiter was knowledgable and efficient.
I was unable to eat from the dinner menu due to Valentine’s Day. I was not made aware until seated I must eat the preset menu. I informed the waitress my palette would not enjoy the meal selections. Instead of making an exception for me, I was left with the only option of the Pre-ordained meal. I felt I had to eat something since a charge to avoid a charge to my credit card. I did not see any selection from the fifth course that would be enjoyable. The waitress still charged me full price for my meal with my wife. Being a good customer, I paid the $344 meal plus tip. Upon leaving, the waitress said, ordering from the main menu would of been a better choice for me. That sounds great after the fact. I left very unsatisfied and still hungry. I went to another restaurant afterwards for a meal. Very unsatisfied.
My mother and I waited 20 minutes until someone came to the table to give us water and greet us. Our tasting dishes all came out at the same time, our cocktails were about 1 ounce each, and when we wanted to leave after learning the dessert we wanted had sold out, our waiter told us to wait for a surprise dessert. When we asked to just have it boxed, he said "well I already put the order in; you should just wait and see the presentation". It was a slice of a brownie with a strawberry as a garnish. We then had to wait another 15 minutes to finally get our bill. The evening was less than enjoyable.
My visit was quite enjoyable. From the moment I arrived I was made to feel welcome; hostess took my coat without hesitation. The chef attending the egg station took special note of my dairy intolerance and made my omelette with little to no clarified butter. Once asked, The manager in charge arranged for me to get gluten free toast. The waiter brought me warm almond milk with a side of cinnamon and honey. The food was fresh and visually appealing. The ambiance was pleasant; quiet with pleasant chatter from other customers. We had a lovely view of the grounds from our window table.
