Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill
Harrimans was a wonderful experience. The food was fabulous, (you have to try the cornbread: unbelievable). The service was great....love that our waiter, Terry, had a wicked sense of humor. We also love his wife, Ana, as well. Both great servers and easy to be around. The atmosphere was so lovely and warm (lots of fireplaces). Overall a really great experience. We will be back.
Excellent food and service (Sally). Wonderful personalized and knowledgeable attention to every part of the meal.
It was an ok dining experience for the money it wasn’t the best quality fish and chicken dinner. They are known for steak and we didn’t order steak so maybe that’s where we could have made a better choice.
Overall a great eating experience and would return. However for what is a five star restaurant, there are several details that I expected that I was let down on. For instance, my girlfriend and I shared a salad as an appetizer. With this in mind, I would have expected the kitchen to split the salad onto two plates so that we could each have our own without having to serve ourselves. This is a small detail, but it makes a significant impression when looking at the overall dining experience.
It’s all about customer service. Sally and the rest of the crew did a great job. The food was not ethereal but satisfying and delicious.
Terry was great, he was extremely helpful helping us navigate through the menu. The whole experience was wonderful!
Staying at the resort without a lot of options for dinner. The meal was lack luster. It’s considered fine dining, but it’s contemporary American. The charcuterie board was AMAZING! Honey butter - delicious! Scallops perfectly done and tasted like butter. The vegetable sides fell short, arrived cold, not a lot of flavor - even the veggie couldn’t stand out.
Delectably filling brunch!
Excellent food and service by very knowledgeable staff.
The wait for our meals was quite long. Our waiter notified us that he needed to leave unexpectedly, and that another waiter would take over. My fish was so overcooked it was inedible. This is the first time I have ever requested a new meal. By the time a replacement meal was provided, my family had been in the restaurant for well over two hours and were already on dessert. I had only bread and cake for dinner. After leaving the restaurant, my 2 daughters told me their meals were overcooked as well, but they were hungry enough to prefer eating rather than wait for new meals. The staff apologized as we left, and took two main courses off our bill. Not enough to encourage us to return. A big disappointment, especially considering that we had an outstanding meal just a few months earlier.
Great service but food was over priced. Steal was overcooked and the pasta dish was very dry
As I indicate with the ratings, the dining experience was very nice. However, being my wife’s and my 50th wedding anniversary, it would have been nice for the restaurant to show their appreciation to our special occasion with a complimentary drink or dessert. Fine restaurants do that and it was a bit disappointing to have the restaurant miss on that detail.
Greetings. I thought I was bringing my family to a five star restaurant for Christmas Eve breakfast/brunch. After we were seated we did not receive service until we flagged someone down to request coffee. Noone came to ask if we needed refills or take our breakfast order until we flagged someone down. It was a surprise and tremendous disappointment to my family to be visiting Salamander resort for the first time and to have this experience was a huge let down. I am wondering if lack of service or attention was perhaps due to not being a guest staying at the hotel. Hard to tell but either way I have had friendlier service and more attention at ihop! What a let down...
Nice, nice, nice! We loved the tranquility of the area and the food was excellent. Moreover, the service was top-notch! We will definitely return! What a gem of an experience!
Had such a great time! Thank you to Terry for the fantastic service!
The food was a bit dry, like the salmon and prime rib. But they have a great selection of options. I loved the desert bar, made to order omelettes, and zucchini bread.
Never again. We live locally so we often use Harriman’s as a special occasion restaurant or for spring brunches. But recently the prices have become too high for the level of service and inconsistencies that you need to put up with to eat there. On this occasion there were five of us - four taking a friend for a birthday dinner. Before we were seated I took the hostess aside quietly to ask that the server bring us four individual checks and to split the cost of the birthday dinner between us. The hostess said “it was not a problem” she would let the server know. When the server came to our table I asked her quietly if she understood how the check was supposed to be taken care of. She assured me she did. Dinner was good - not great - service was slow, two jtems we tried to order were already sold out even though it was only 6:30 pm and the water glasses were continuously filled with room temperature still water until we specifically asked for ice. Very strange. When the bill came the server brought us three bills instead of four and had arbitrarily split all the items between the three checks. We then had to explain how we wanted it done in great detail in front of the birthday guest - awkward and embarrassing. She went back to the kitchen to try again and after 20 minutes came back with a completely wrong set of checks again. Another round of explanations and she went back to try again. We asked for the check around 9:10 pm - by the time it was straightened out And we were able to pay and go was 10:25 pm. We spent one hour and fifteen minutes trying to settle the checks. Ridiculous. This is suppose to be a high end restaurant but the waitstaff is young and inexperienced. The dining costs are those I am happy to pay for with a well trained, well run kitchen and staff but that is not something this restaurant has ever been able to achieve, I am sorry to say.
This place is great! Food is outstanding, menu options are broad and non-typical and the service is spot on.
Everything about our experience was five start... from the moment we were greeted by the valet, until we departed. I had the best restaurant meal I’ve ever had, and the ambiance was delightful.
We will be back!
We celebrated my husband's birthday and had a fabulous meal. The service was top quality!
We went there for my son’s birthday and he loved it!! He’s a big eater, so the Sunday brunch is perfect for a special treat!
Harrimans is good food, especially the steaks/meat dinners. The tables and chairs are comfortable. I wish they would seat people apart from each other until they fill up. The prices are high, but that is common with restaurants in hotels/inns.
I am afraid to recommend Harriman's to friends because they would probably be disappointed. Sunday Brunch had its highs & lows. I think they need to include a glass of REAL champagne in the $55/person charge. They serve Prosecco by the glass or a do-it-yourself Bloody Mary (extra charge). None of the chafing dish food was warm let alone hot. The omelettes made to order are great, as well as the carved roast beef (now served properly with horseradish sauce). I liked the shrimp & grits and the shrimp cocktail but the crab fritters were cold & flabby. The Mac & Cheese was cold & dry...as were the chicken in biscuits. Bacon was crisp & tasty. The stars of the brunch buffet are the desserts. With all of the glorious Christmas decorations (especially the trees) they need to try harder.
The biggest downside of this hotel; just always terrible service and mediocre food.
Lovely space, breakfast food was definitely above average but not exceptional. Service was just ok, our server was busy chatting with another table, and we had to find another person to bring condiments.
Brunch at Harriman’s was a perfect way to start our Christmas in Middleburg day. The food, as always, was delicious. The ambiance was perfect. Elizabeth, our server, was attentive and accommodated our dietary requests.
Harrimans is an excellent and fairly reasonable place for breakfast. Food was wonderful.
Nice atmosphere, beautiful location. Cooked food was invariably cold. Limited veggies and salad choices. Obviously understaffed. Need better training for the personnel.
Went for Saturday brunch. My cappachino was steamed milk w a couple drops of espresso at best - I cannot imagine how it was possibly sent to our table as it was - a cup of steamed milk. Had to send it back and our server (who was wonderful) was appropriately apologetic. Next discovered a hair in my monkey bread. I was too embarrassed at this point to tell our server. Next came entre - inedible. Ham was very dry, too salty and too smoked - horrible flavor and chalky texture. Again, didn’t have heart to tell server as all was just a disaster, and didn’t want to make my guest uncomfortable. Would have had a much better breakfast at Bobs Big Boy were it not for a classy, fabulous server and pretty ambiance. My out of town guest said all was delicious on her side of the table. Hope she wasn’t just being polite.
As usual. Anna was amazing. Food was amazing. Will definitely be coming back
Food was a little pricey, but the service was excellent. Crab appetizer was a little overcooked (dry) and the cornbread would have been better without either the jalapeno or the nuts. The chef needs to choose one or the other for the cornbread as it overpowers the flavor for additional foods being ordered through out the meal.
The wait staff was very good to us. The food was excellent. Appreciated the dessert commemoration of our anniversary very much
We brought our Mother here for her birthday...we have been several times before as we live close by...The resort is elegant and the setting is bucolic. That’s the good news...we had the breakfast buffet and had reservations for 1145am. The hostess and staff at the reception area were extremely nice and accommodating however the service from the waitstaff was horrendous...long wait for water and coffee and sat with our dirty plates for way too long. Now for the food review..our expectations were high but come on...stale waffles that I had to cut with a knife ? Pancakes that were old and inedible. Bacon that was more like I imagine beef jerky is like to chew. The chicken biscuits and potatoes were good....just good. Such a disappointment. Almost $200 for the three of us that could have been better spent.
Fantastic meal, with a polite and attentive staff.
Lovely setting, beautiful view. There was very attentive service with a creative menu. Wish the tables were smaller, as we felt so far away from our friends, conversation the huge round table. We hope the menu changes more throughout the year as we live in the area
Outstanding food and service. The food was incredibly delicious and the service was exceptionally fantastic. Highly recommend.
The food was delicious and the service was better, friendly and accommodating.
Terry provided outstanding service. The pacing for the courses was perfect. It was a great opportunity to get a sense of the quality of the Harriman's menu.
Excellent ambiance. Very casual.
Everything was excellent. They have really stepped it up with both food and service. I was impressed and will visit more frequently based off this experience.
