Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill Ratings and Reviews
From the second we sat down at our table with a wonderful view we were inundated with fruit flies. Not just one here and there, but tons of them swarming us. As I swatted them away thankfully our server noticed and insisted we move to another table which we happily did and yes there still were fruit flies, but not as many. We did see a server put a dish of something at the base of the decorative trees perhaps to attract them? But I have to say I have never been to a high end restaurant where there was an infestation of bugs. And after reading reviews online others have reported the same issue...that’s NOT ok!!! Time to call in pest control people.
OK, so now we are at our new table and order our food and wine and request gluten free bread and the waitress is so happy that they can accommodate our request except that she forgets and never brings it.
Then we order a NICE bottle of wine and the sommelier comes to our table and says they don’t have our requested bottle but recommends two other similar ones. OK, we went with one of her requests and it was wonderful!
The service was horrendous as we never saw our waitress again once we placed our order and had to pour our own wine for the remainder of our meal!! I could have done this in my own dining room had we chosen to celebrate our anniversary at home. Nothing special about this place for the price that you pay. We were looking for a special night out...not waitresses wearing jeans with poor service. Salamander you better get your act together!
Took my wife and a friend of ours out for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. Very nearly a perfect evening. The service was excellent, Anna H, our server, was wonderful. The cocktails and wines were excellent, priced fairly for the pour and the quality. The food was wonderful. The only minor issue, mentioned in couple of other reviews, was the attention paid us by fruit flies and a few of the ordinary house variety. I'd still recommend it highly for special occasions or a quiet business dinner.
Our waitress and the entire wait staff was Wonderful!. My husband loved his steak but I have a very expensive! Lobster tail that was so over cooked it was rubbery. My fault for not saying something but it was my husband’s birthday and I didn’t want to make a fuss. Also, next time I’d request better seating. We were in the back next to the kitchen, this missing the views that Middleburg is so famous for. Salad and desserts were great!
We try to come for brunch about every 6 months, well worth the drive from Arlington. A bit pricey but the food and ambiance are first class. We've noticed that sometimes the champagne drinks seem to take longer than anticipated but not enough to be a big distraction. To also enjoy the beautiful views best to make a reservation.
My husband and I were celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary. Although the food was excellent, we encountered challenges with having to swat flies while attempting to eat our meals. The setting was beautiful, the service was excellent, and the waitress was very knowledge and helpful; however we did not realize the dress attire was so casual for such an upscale restaurant. Overall we had a great time and happy we celebrated our anniversary at your restaurant. Thank you!
Considering the prices at Harrimans, I expected a lot better. My wife and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and wanted a special place to enjoy dinner together and I thought this place was it. It was not. The food was mediocre at best and the service was subpar. We waited at least 15 minutes before someone came over and greeted us once we were seated. The server suggested an item that we chose not to go with and she seemed disappointed (almost angry) that we opted not to go with her suggestion. When we ordered an appetizer and our meal the timing between the two was unacceptable, we had to ask for bread and for another drink. When I made the reservation, I was asked if we were celebrating a special occasion, to which I said yes. Aside from the hostess (who was very nice), there was no acknowledgement of our special occasion. I suspect that we will not be returning to Harrimans anytime soon.
Worth the drive from DC to Middleburg. Extensive and impressive menu of brunch items and an even more impressive dessert selection. Good service. Located in the Salamander resort which is also dog-friendly. Valet parking (free if you have a dining or spa reservation) also available.
Even though we had heard disappointing reviews of Harriman's when it first opened, we thought we would give it a try given the positive comments on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately, the food fell way short of meeting our expectations. Some items, like the baked camembert, were acceptable ~ others, like the Scallop entree at $30 per person were served luke warm at best and with complements (such as a cauliflower puree) that definitely did not enhance the scallops. We also ordered a half bottle of Middleburg wine which was delicious. However, $48 for a half bottle seems too high and makes one feel like the resort is taken advantage of their affluent clientele. On a positive note, our server (Crystal) was warm and accommodating without being intrusive.
The menu at Sunday Brunch is a bit redundant. I believe that the chef should try something different. We were seated for 15 minutes before anyone asked if we wanted a drink. But the Bloody Mary was worth it! Garnished with a hunk of parmesan, bleu cheese stuffed olive, bacon & celery. The best B.M. I've had since the Bloody Mary bar on the Club level of Redskin Stadium. The omelette man is very good! He was able to successfully man the omelette station & carve the ham. Highlights were a very friendly waiter & the dessert bar. A very noisy group of 12 was near our table (annoying). Perhaps members of the wedding event from the day before.
My husband and I celebrated my birthday at Harriman's. We live locally, but had only been to the Wine Bar in the past. We enjoyed the Wine Bar very much, so we decided to "upgrade" to the restaurant. We were exceptionally pleased. The service, food, and atmosphere were impeccable. Anna was our main server. She and others on the staff could not have been more attentive. She shared with us her wealth of knowledge about the chef's creations and obviously enjoyed her job. They clearly take pride in their food, both in presentation and quality. We shared two appetizers, one was tempura shrimp and the other a crab cake. Absolutely delicious. For entrees, I had fried chicken. My husband had duck. Both were cooked perfectly and we even had leftovers. All in all, a delightful evening. We will be back!
Went to Harriman's to celebrate our anniversary and had a great experience. We ordered the tasting menu and were not disappointed. We enjoyed hhe pace (we were there for about four hours) of the meal and the wine pairings.
There was a wedding rehearsal reception that evening, so the noise level seemed a little higher than normal, but I think it would be great for quiet conversation on a normal night.
We were so looking forward to spending the evening here for our daughter's 30th birthday. In the ads, the hotel and restaurant looks amazing. We were prepared to be wowed. Maybe we set our expectations too high. The service was wonderful. Our waitress knew the menu well and steered us accordingly. Unfortunately, the food was good but not great. We opted for many sides and a cocktail 🍸. We ordered scallops, overdone. The rest of the items ordered were ok but nothing to rave about. For a hotel that charges approximately $500 a night, you would think they could hire a better chef.
As we were leaving, we passed through the bar whose food looked much better and cheaper. IF we ever return, we will try that.
The hotel itself didn't look that great either. Glad we decided not to stay.
We have traveled all over the world. This facility has to step it up in order to be 5 star.
A very lovely and delicious experience from start to finish. The salmon was the best I've ever had and I order it frequently. I would have bought the honey butter if it had been for sale.
I was too full for desert but I was going to take the chicken dish back to room for later. Sorry to say, the server misunderstood and what remained of the chicken disappeared. The graciousness of the evening was memorable.
Usually brunch is pretty safe for vegetarians--fruit, eggs, salads. Not here. Started with a slice of bacon (eww) in my Bloody Mary, and it was down hill from there--no fruit, only salad had marsh mellows in it, all vegetables had pancetta including most of the potato dishes. I can recommend desserts, but nothing else. Waited forever for service once the bacon showed up in the cocktail. Hard to get refills of water and coffee. I wanted to like this place...I live nearby.
Service was exceptional! We were there celebrating our anniversary and had a window seat. The view is very pretty. I had lobster and my husband had steak. The steak was delicious. One of the best steaks ever!! I was very pleased with the dining experience. The cocktails were satisfying as well. I sipped a white Sangria with fresh strawberries in it. My only complaint were the flies. I actually killed one fly, but then there were two more buzzing on the window pane.
