Harpoon Harry's Crab House Ratings and Reviews
We had cooked sushi - the Crab Rangoon Roll and the Sharkbait Roll. My husband doesn't like seafood, but ate ALL of his! It was delicious and we would definitely go back. Our waitress was fantastic and was very knowledgeable of the menu. She recommended the Sharkbait Roll, which we never would have chosen. It was great!
Wow, where to begin? I should know better than to get suckered into this tourist "trap"seafood type of place. Dime a dozen in Florida...and this one was no better. In fact, probably worse.
We were there on Super Bowl Sunday...place was practically empty. Apparently the management also gave most of the staff the night off as we got stuck with a pretty lousy server who had all of 3 tables and couldn't even manage those. He was not unpleasant, just inept.
Food was awful. I ordered a crab and parm "crusted" grouper. It came out more like catfood on top of canned tuna. The grouper was the absolute worst I've ever had. Fishy, tough, flavorless. And the parm/crab? What was the point? Either the cooks/chef don't taste their food or if they think it's good...it's time to go back to culinary school.
I asked the server what the vegetable of the day was..he said.."mixed". I said "What's in it" He says.."you know carrots, beans..that sort of stuff". LMAO. And if I had been allergic to Squash if he brought it out? So instead I ordered asparagus. Worst looking asparagus in my life...like week old brown and stringy. I asked for a replacement...he brought the same thing. So I said forget it. Finally after finishing what I could salvage from my meal, he brought very fresh asparagus. Meaning that they had it, they just didn't want to go to the trouble and thought I'd just accept it.
The only saving grace were the grilled oysters...albeit $2.00 each. But, good flavor. Paid the bill, gave feedback to the manager (who knows what he'll do with it). Bottom line is places like this don't have to impress..only feed. Most of their customers are one and done vacationers anyway.
Learned my lesson. Don't make the mistake of this place.
We have been to Harpoon Harry’a for lunch and dinner before. Had family in town and knew they would enjoy it too. Good food. Fast service. Excellent kids menu. Lots of variety for kids and adults too.
Loved being able to make a reservation on open table. Quick and easy
Absolutely loved the interior of the restaurant. Wonderful ambiance, spacious interior, not overcrowded.
I ordered the $25 chef’s choice sushi tray. I was VERY specific about the sushi that I do not like. Half the tray was exactly what I had specified that I didn’t want. I was very disappointed, and paid $25 for something I couldn’t eat. Not happy.
Thanksgiving buffet was not as good as the past 2 years. Highly disappointed in the quality of food. Turkey and ham were dry. Chowder was cold. Dessert ran out of banana pudding. Only good thing was our server. It will be the last time we will come to Harpoon Harry's.
Our server was great, which is where most of the stars come from. The food was mediocre, and definitely not the best seafood. The gumbo barely had any meat, but the taste was good. The Portuguese shrimp had too much sauce/tomatoes. Be careful making reservations on Open Table. The restaurant cancelled our reservation despite us checking in. When we called for them to fix it, the first person said it didn't matter, while the manager basically accused me of lying about actually showing up and checking in. We will choose another place to dine when in the area again.
Easy to make reservations. Seated immediately. Server showed up promptly. Food came out at a good pace. Server kept glasses filled and handled all small requests quickly and calmly. (Server Olga was very nice!!!) Server cleared table promptly and provided checks & handled payments smoothly. Food was great. Overall great experience....one we've had every time we've been at this restaurant!!
This is our favorite restaurant in the Smokey Mountains Area. We tried a variety of our favorites as well as a couple new items. The oysters on the half shell were incredible, the sushi (which is why we keep coming back) was not as good as in the past. We ordered our favorite roll, the Shark Bite, but the receipt had been “changed” recently and wasn’t as good as before. Still good, not AWESOME. We then did surf and turf; with sirloin tips in mushroom sauce, crab legs, mashed potatoes and mixed veggies which was new for us at this place, but will definitely order it again. Since we were celebrating a birthday, a chocolate brownie and ice cream came as desert. Wait staff was awesome, no waiting for our reservation, food came out SUPER FAST. Love this place and can’t wait to go back!!
