Harper's Table in Suffolk, Virginia serves up Southern favorites in a contemporary setting with a few modern twists for good measure. To begin your meal at Harper's Table, try the fried liberty duck tongues, roasted Indian rock oysters or the warm olives. The fried oyster taco is also a huge hit.
For your main course at Harper's Table, you can�t go wrong with the jumbo lump blue crab cakes. The baby back ribs and crispy fried flounder will do nicely, too.
The food is excellent, the portions are appropriate and it is not the usual fare you see in many restaurants. Whenever possible ingredients are sourced locally and as a result the menu reflects seasonal changes. Although the meats are great for me the strength in the menu starts with the vegetable preparation. If you like bourbon Harper's Table has an outstanding selection. The service is exceptional. As a local restaurant I am often surprised to see people from outside of the Suffolk area enjoying the dining at Harper's Table. It is worth the travel time!
Really outstanding food and service. Very informal but the food was anything but. Good selection from start to finish with great sides and desserts. We were really surprised to find such a top notch restaurant in old town Suffolk. We'll definitely return.

We joined the gang at HT on anther Family Fridays dinner. Christina was wonderful as usual and everyone always has smiles on their faces, creating a great dining experience for everyone. It's so nice to go to Allan's where you're more than just another patron. And Chef Harper always prepares dishes that are to die for! The only problem...it's hard to choose. Anyone that has not dined here is truly missing out on something special!
Great food, great service, great cocktails. Best in the Tidewater.
The food and service was excellent. The noise level is too high for intimate conversation. Next time we will request a booth as our table was a bit tiny as well.
Unique twist on southern food.
This may be the best restaurant in this entire metro area. The food is fabulous, innovative and wonderfully prepared. The wait staff gets the rhythm of showing up just in time; we never felt rushed or neglected. The ambiance is simple but quiet and lovely. It is located in downtown Suffolk, a very old area down on its luck. That wouldn't dissuade me from going. Prices not too bad. My wife and I ate for about $110 including one drink apiece and tip. Well worth it.

Very nice portion sizes and variety...at our table we had pork and polenta,and shrimp and grits, flounder entre, bbq platter, seared scallops, and pork chops...all were well received...yum
This is a must try for any Suffolk local or just visiting. The food is absolutly and consistently delicious. The service is friendly and quick. The restaurant is also very clean and well kept with a bery nice vintage look to it. Again the food is awesome everything ive tried has been superb.
A great dining experience from beginning to end! We had a reservation and our table was waiting. I enjoyed their version of a Manhattan while my wife had a glass of wine. Appetizers of beet, apple, and fresh greens salad and "Tommy's Clams" set the stage for main courses of seared scallops with pumpkin puree for my wife and shrimp and grits for me. Our desserts were Pot de Creme au Chocolat and Brown Butter Cake with fresh apples, sorbet, and bourbon caramel sauce.
To the extent possible, everything is fresh, local, and house-made, right down to the butter for the bread. The greens in the salad were flawless, as if each leaf were hand selected. The plating of the desserts was artful but not pretentious.
This was a dining experience well worth repeating.
The food is fresh and local and Chef Harper has a magic touch that transforms even the humblest ingredients into gourmet offerings! Imagine simple spinach mingled with shallots, garlic, ginger, and chili, then surrounded in buttery goodness.... Or mayonnaise kicked up a notch with roasted shallots and hot sauce.... Or the best hamburger ever.... Really! I would not have imagined ordering a hamburger at an upscale restaurant with tenderloin, oysters, smoked duck, venison, and other elegant items on the menu. But, at another guests recommendation, I did. Trying it, at least, once is a must! The beef is local and Harper grinds it himself with a perfect ratio of beef to fat. Then, he even makes homemade hamburger rolls!
Both the red and the white wines we had were outstanding!
We finished the dinner with a scoop of white chocolate ice cream--one unique flavor among several he offers. The next time, we will save room for one of his even more decadent desserts!
Had a very nice time. Lived up to the hype. Not crowded at all the night we went (early) so it was very quiet.
