The bottom line is that this is a great place for a drink, horrible place to eat.
Trying sooo hard to be "the Hamptons" while forgetting they are in SAG HARBOR. Attitude from the minute you walk in and nothing to back it up.
Food - Huge prices are expected, but the quality and portions are just not there. Bobby Van's, Pierre's and Almond a few minutes away in Bridge are in the same price ballpark, but the quality and size crush this place. $24 for a few fried pieces of shrimp and a scallop (which by the way they increase prices by 50%! during the season vs. their online menu - lame.) Page at 63 Main is such a better choice if you are in Sag. Again, no view, but grab a drink at Harlow, then get out!
Service - I have eaten all over the East End, and understand the concept of "Summer Staff", but this place takes ambivalence to a whole new level. I get it, you are hung over from the party you went to last night, but you can at least have the courtesy to say "please" and "thanks" to the people who you expect to leave you 20% of an overpriced tab.
Overall this place is just lazy. Lazy with its food, its service and attitude and living off of its view. It will survive a season or two based on its weekend seasonal bar scene, but will never make it based on locals or even seasonal locals visiting more than once. It's a true shame that this location was wasted.
The harbor view is the best thing about this restaurant. Small portions of mostly good food. High prices and a totally uninterested and untrained staff. With the prices they charge they should be welcoming you and not making you feel that you are being ripped off.
Good food and great outdoor scenery next to the marina.
Most places in the Hamptons are way over priced for average food and bad service. This place is an exception. Food is a tad bit pricey but considering the location and views, worth the treat. Great deck seating with views of the boats in Sag Harbor. Good service and decent portions for food.
Solid food. Friendly and attentive wait staff. Food a bit overpriced. Much improved over the poorly run B Smith's that lived off of the location, I suspect.
The staff was friendly but into over selling the scene that is THE HAMPTONS. We have been coming out here forever and are very knowledgeable on the ins and outs and chose Harlow because we needed something that could take us early and close to the Bay Street theater. The food was mediocre and the waiter only wanted to treated us like we were tourists looking for Kardashians. Overall the table was on the beautiful patio and the weather was unbeatable but the food was fair at best and we over ordered after asking multiple times if 4 entrees and 2 appetizers was too much for 4 women (it was way too much) who were also drinking. Would I go back? Yes but probably for light apps and wine to kill time before a real dinner somewhere else where I know the food is better for way less money.
Worst service in the Hamptons. Food was fair, prices were exorbitant. House Rose, at $18 was awful. McDonalds style hamburger. What a disappointing evening at one of the great settings in the Hamptons. Can't wait for the next restaurant to take the lease.
Great ambiance, great food (not cheap) but service was beyond bad. place was not even half full so no excuse there...
They made us wait over 30 min for Thurs lunch!
It is a beautiful building and the outdoors setting is great. The chairs outdoors need to be replaced with more substantial seats. They are very uncomfortable. The food is okay, not great, however it is pricey and the portions are insufficient. I was hungry when I left the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
Beautiful harbor setting is offset by absurdly high prices, very slow and inefficient service, rickety chairs and tables, and small portions. There are so many great choices in Sagg that this one can be avoided.
We loved Harlow
Fantastic waterfront setting
Will be missed
We went with friends on a week day evening for an early dinner. The waitress, Yasmin, really didn't have any personality nor did she seem to understand her job. We never received part of our order and she never came over to check on us, even to refill waters. The portions were small, but delicious. She came over to ask us if we wanted our check, and when we told her we never got part of our dinner order she looked like a deer in the headlights and said, "oh, you want now?" She never even asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu or wanted coffee.
We politely complained to the manager who deducted one entree from the bill, which we never asked him to do. This is a pricey, trendy restaurant, but they need to train their staff.
Harlow East is one of those restaurants that seems to get every single little detail right while making it all look effortless (but obviously that cannot be the case, a lot of hard work must go into a restaurant that is operated on this level). First up, the front desk is amazing and deserves a special shout-out. From the incredibly polite staff that calls to reconfirm a reservation to the front desk staff welcoming diners to the restaurant. There is no attitude, it is just a wonderfully warm and welcoming experience (not something we often see, especially not in the Hamptons). Why do other restaurants not understand what a huge difference a great front desk can make? First impressions count and set the tone for the entire dining experience - Harlow East's front desk is a 10/10! Then there is the wait staff, very knowledgeable about the food, providing a wonderfully relaxed but top notch service (a tough balancing act, but again - a 10/10 at Harlow East). The new and incredibly talented Chef Jordan Andino has catapulted the already delicious food to an entire new level - wow, wow, wow! Add to that the spectacular waterfront setting and beautiful restaurant décor and you have a restaurant where one can experience the best of the Hamptons (no attitude, no rip-off prices). This is one of our favorite restaurants and we are so glad that there are still gems like these amongst the many "hip" spots that come and go each year... Kudos to the entire Harlow East team!
We had dinner after the movie with our grandson. We liked the food very much and found it delightful to sit outside that particular evening.
The problem is that it is much too expensive to go often, even if you have a lot of money. A small piece of salmon cost $41.00!
The deck right on the harbor is great. The service was not as bad as described by other reviewers but not great either. The food was ok. We dined late and a DJ had started playing music inside the restaurant which made it hard to have a conversation even outside. The location can't be beaten though and at sunset it's just amazing. Maybe more suited for a pre dinner sunset drink.
A very nice place in May when the prices are high but not ridiculous; not terrible in June, when the prices are very high, but the view is worth it; idiotic in July, when the prices are laughable. The same pasta dish, for example, was $30 in May, $36 in June, and $42 yesterday. For that, they can keep the view.
Very good food on a beautiful deck overlooking the harbor but, sadly, the service didn't match up the the other ingredients, making for a less than acceptable dining experience. If I were ever to attend another play at the Bay St. Theater, I would be willing to give it another shot since the food was pretty good and it is a nice spot and very convenient to the theater.
This was a very pleasant surprise for my wife and I. This has always been one of the greatest views in the Hampton's. But precious restaurants have suffered with not only service issues but the food started to go downhill as well. The service was impeccable and the food although it was a limited menu was superb. It is defiantly worth a visit!!
Having eaten here before with friends last summer and really liking it, we thought we'd go again. Not sure if they were just off their game or what, but the food was mediocre and they were out of half the things we wanted and it was only 8pm. Server was great though. Noise level is kind of high inside, so try to sit outside.
Really bad service. Not worth it. Waiter didn't know much, disappeared for while. I had to speak with the manager twice who did try to rectifiy the situation. For the price, eat elsewhere and receive proper attentive service.
