Harlem Tavern Ratings and Reviews
The wait staff had my wife and I wait for almost 30 mins before we were acknowledged. The appetizers and main course came out 5 minutes apart. The table had no silverware and the wait staff seemed distracted most of the night. And this all occurred on Valentine’s Day.
We went for a family get together here and have 3 kids ages 4 to 9 and I must say this place is kid friendly. They had good kid menus and the food was great. Everyone that came really enjoyed they’re meals. I had the Mahi Mahi salad and it was amazing! This was everyone’s first time there and we already made plans on going back.
Harlem Tavern is a great place for games. Lately, I have been less insprired by the food. I have a 10 yr old and the kids menu portions are getting smaller and smaller. We've been going here for years. On Saturday, we ordered the penne. The side order and the pasta came in the same size small bowl, in fact the avocado amount was almost the same as the serving of pasta. When we asked the server about the change from the medium sized bowl to the side order bowl. She said, 'that's the size the kitchen sent, so it's right'. After pointing out, that the entree and side order the same size is not standard, she shrugged.
If that is the correct size, then it is too small for a kids menu serving kids up to 12. The server should have been able to do more to help. Instead she asked 'what do you want to do?', not helpful.
I asked for the menu, had her remove the handful of penne and ordered another meal altogether.
It was not busy in the dining area at 6:30 on Saturday, but the staff was not attentive and helpful. I've been having this experience more in the last year or so at Harlem Tavern. So I rarely go there to eat, but I will hang out and watch a game at the bar.
Again great place for games, but variable on the food and service.
Loved everything but it was soooo cold. Initially we accepted patio seating because of the size of our group but had to move inside because it was just too cold. With additional heaters on the patio area pointed around we would’ve been ok (I think), but the fact that we stayed says a lot!
Was disappointed with the amount of food. I ordered fish & chips. For $23 I should have been served more than just 2 little pieces of fish. I also asked for Cajun fries. Fries were just covered with a Cajun seasoning that was just poured on them. Some had too much seasoning and some were plain.
My server was very disrespectful and rude! She never told us her name, she didn’t ask me what I wanted to drink and my food was not hot. She had an attitude when I asked Her to split the check which was very unnecessary. (brown skin woman with blonde highlights)
Food was fantastic, interesting options. Beer & cider selection was very good. Decor & atmosphere is cool. Noise from loud good music with combined crowd was a little high causing you to have to raise your voice continuously. But energy was high & saw a lot of people gathering here for the great food & atmosphere. Highly recommend. Will return. :)
This was my first time to Harlem Tavern & I thoroughly enjoyed it! With 3 other friends, we celebrated a birthday. We were able to laugh, talk & eat in a friendly, comfortable environment! Even though I drove, I like that it's right at the C train. I will gladly recommend Harlem Tavern to my friends and family often!!!
Harlem Tavern was an experience that I am so glad I got to be a part of. The hospitality is great, the food is amazing and the music is LOUD!! If you are looking to come and have a quiet conversation, this is not your place. But if you are looking for a place where people hop up out of their seats, while they are eating, but are in the mood to dance; then Harlem Tavern is the spot for you. The energy in this place is off-the-meters. We went on a Friday evening at midnight and the place was hoping. The service was great and the food was even better! GREAT FIND!
Great food and drinks. Music and DJ were excellent. Service itself mediocre. Our food was brought out and no one gave us utensils. We had to go to the bar to ask for them after waiting to find someone to assist and while our food was getting cold. Our server never came by and we had to wave her over to bring us the check.
We love Harlem Tavern - unfortunate when they are real busy the service fails. Our server took 15-20 minutes to deliver our first round of drinks. Our appetizers arrived 20 minute later cold - and cold calamari is not good. I told our waiter everything was cold and he told me he would pass that on to his manager. The dinner was good - I love there burgers. But again - the little things got forgotten - no side of mayo; extra ketchup came after the food was eaten. If you go to the Tavern avoid nice summer nights when the restaurant, tent area and the outside are all full. Otherwise it is a great place.
Feels Like a Getaway
This Harlem spot with lots of outdoor dining (tables and benches plus conventional circular tables), is an ideal spot for a balmy summer night of relaxed drinking and dining. The quieter spots are near the street. There are lots of choices on the menu for a variety of tastes and the prices are reasonable. The servers are pleasant and unobtrusive.
My husband and I came here for Saturday date night and we ate outside. I ate the truffle burger and my husband had the burger with cheddar and bacon. The truffle burger was one of my favorite burgers ever. The service was excellent. I highly recommend Harlem Tavern. We will definitely be back.
I've been to the Harlem Tavern a number of times and it just misses the mark. Great location, the food is ok, prices are ok, but the staff could not be more pretentious and unaccommodating. One example: there were 5 in our party and we asked how many pieces are in the chicken skewer appetizer. When the waiter said 4, we asked if they could give us 5 and charge us. An imperious "no" was the reply and he walked away because we needed to adjust our order. Give me a break.
