What Insiders Are Saying
Harlem Tavern is a big place to bring 30 friends for beer and burgers.
We drove from BK to get here and it was worth it! Loud music, great food and a fun crowd. Our waiter wasn't the best but another man helped us out and our food was delicious! Prices are fair! We went late and it was a lot of fun and we will go back!
Had to wait for awhile for the waitress to come to table and acknowledge we were alive. The water glasses were dirty, the shrimp quesadilla was soggy, the waitress was not engaging and did not smile till the end for her possible tip. Waitress also did not remember to bring napkins. Therefore we asked the busboy and he brought some napkins and the manager randomly took half away. From start to finish, unimpressed.
Great eatery for all kinds of occasions ! Love this spot - drinks are great & food is awesome!
The Waiter was overwhelmed being that I had a party of about 15 and he had other tables, he kept forgetting orders. However, he was patient and the food was good, the drinks were good as well. Maybe I will return with a smaller party.
The place is perfect for watching a sports game, grabbing drinks, having good food, everything would have been nearly perfect if not for the extremely slow service.
We made reservations and were seated promptly. Our waiter did not come and greet us for 35 minutes. We ordered our drinks and it took them 20 minutes to bring it to us. Our appetizers never came. Part of my husband’s entree was forgotten. We got there at 5:30 and did not leave until 8:10. This included us trying to get a check so that we could pay and leave. A family of four came in and sat down and every one of their glasses filled with water was dirty. Needless to say, although we try and patronage our local Restaurants, and have frequented Harlem Tavern before...we will not be back.
Amazing as alway
Fun place to meet up with friends and watch the game. The energy is cool.
Food was great. Service was a little slow, however server was friendly. Love the jazz band
Came here for Saturday Brunch with reservations. we were seated rather quickly and our orders taken. Ordered the wings which were listed under "starters" and ordered our brunch items.
20 minutes later EVERYTHING arrived at once. and EVERYTHING was lukewarm. Our waiter was very inattentive. Wound up canceling the beers we ordered because the waiter clearly FORGOT.
I will not be returning.
Also, i did call ahead to let them know it was his Birthday Brunch and i wanted a dessert to come out once we finished our meal. So much for that. Save your money and go to Angel of Harlem for Brunch.
I did my due Diligence and reserved a table a week in advance. I received a follow up call about my reservation the day off.
When I arrived on site. They scrambled to place my party of five Secondly, they sat my group outside, not on the inside of the restaurant.
The table that was selected by the hostess was a table that can barely sit three adults . Our party was for five adults.
I asked to be seated at a booth. The hostess said it was not specified, when placing the reservation. I thought making a reservation you would be seated appropriately as well as being organized. Also, that valuable information the hostess stated, was not mentioned on the website. That would have help a great deal
Lastly a party of three entered before myself, and the guests I arrived. The group did not have a reservation, and they were seated at the same kind of table, as well as the outside
Booking a reservation for a table is a joke if you are seated with a make shift set up Seating on the outside of the restaurant .
Food was okay. Drinks are a little pricey,. I don't mind paying for a good time but don't ask for a reservation and follow a process, and your process is severely broken.
We had a great time. The wait staff was available but did not hurry us. The food was very good. We’ll be back!
great place to watch the game! the food is FANTASTIC and the FOH staff was phenomenal. we will be back!
It is always a great experience at Tavern. We love that it is family friendly. We have a stroller and we always find seating that accommodates that. There are vegetarian options as well.
It was way too loud we could not even have a conversation, and the food was greasy and the chicken was chewy.
Service was prompt and very friendly. Friendly atmosphere. The food was awesome.
It was a great place to have a first date to chill with old school music playing in the background. Staff was friendly and food service was quicker than expected. I had a great time and will definitely go back again.
The food and service was good. I always have a pretty good experience going there.
The fish specials are always terrific
I ate here with a group of 5 friends/family and my 4-month old baby. I made a last minute OpenTable reservation which they accommodated immediately. We sat outdoors on a bench type table. We were told to please finish by a certain time but it was no problem as it was more than 3 hours away for their next large group. There was a lot of seating, in and outside. Place was packed as it was the first warm day in awhile. Some girl next to my table was annoyed I had to put my stroller where she was sitting and had to move but oh well. Anyway food was great. Husband ordered chicken quesadillas but they came with onions and peppers when my husband ordered plain chicken and cheese. Apparently they pre-make their quesadillas and by the time it is served they just heat it up and serve it so My husband had to order something else. Seems ridiculous they can’t make a simple chicken and cheese quesadilla and have to make things in advance instead of fresh on the spot. Even the waitress said she thought it was ridiculous. I’m sure they’ve got other complaints about it before. I would go back but my husband wouldn’t. Just depends on what you enjoy eating and the type of environment you like.
The service was awful! We technically didn’t have a server. We were seated for about 10+ minutes and no one came over. We flagged down a manager who took our order. We still never had a server, no silverware, no water, no napkins. Our food finally came. I asked the person that bought the food for ketchup and he brought me bbq sauce! Then disappeared. We then had to ask a random server for the chevk. The worst! I won’t be returning. Hire more staff for busy Saturdays! Enough people need jobs it’s no reason this place is understaffed & those working are not properly trained! Sad! Get it together!
great as usual
Had a great time for my son's birthday. The wait staff was very accommodating, since my son is autistic..several of them sang Happy Birthday to my son. A most memorable and enjoyable evening. We always feel welcome.
Thanks to the Harlem Tavern staff
My time at Harlem tavern was great
Waiter took forever to take our order. When he was quickly giving us glasses of water, some of it splashed all over me and on the table. Food was not that good, quesadillas were burned and chicken wings were severely over cooked and the corn bread and rice was extremely dry and hard. The food and service is usually good but not that night. I won’t be going there for a while
The wait staff had my wife and I wait for almost 30 mins before we were acknowledged. The appetizers and main course came out 5 minutes apart. The table had no silverware and the wait staff seemed distracted most of the night. And this all occurred on Valentine’s Day.
It was a little nippy but understandable because it was rather cold outside. Food and service were excellent. Quite noisy, could barely hold up convo but overall good experience.
as always food & drinks were great — favorite girlz nite spot
We went for a family get together here and have 3 kids ages 4 to 9 and I must say this place is kid friendly. They had good kid menus and the food was great. Everyone that came really enjoyed they’re meals. I had the Mahi Mahi salad and it was amazing! This was everyone’s first time there and we already made plans on going back.
Harlem Tavern is a great place for games. Lately, I have been less insprired by the food. I have a 10 yr old and the kids menu portions are getting smaller and smaller. We've been going here for years. On Saturday, we ordered the penne. The side order and the pasta came in the same size small bowl, in fact the avocado amount was almost the same as the serving of pasta. When we asked the server about the change from the medium sized bowl to the side order bowl. She said, 'that's the size the kitchen sent, so it's right'. After pointing out, that the entree and side order the same size is not standard, she shrugged.
If that is the correct size, then it is too small for a kids menu serving kids up to 12. The server should have been able to do more to help. Instead she asked 'what do you want to do?', not helpful.
I asked for the menu, had her remove the handful of penne and ordered another meal altogether.
It was not busy in the dining area at 6:30 on Saturday, but the staff was not attentive and helpful. I've been having this experience more in the last year or so at Harlem Tavern. So I rarely go there to eat, but I will hang out and watch a game at the bar.
Again great place for games, but variable on the food and service.
Good food and good place to go with a group. Live band for brunch. Mac and Cheese is always a good choice. Buffalo Wings tasty with just enough heat. Regular menu starts at 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
The fish specials are always superb
Loved everything but it was soooo cold. Initially we accepted patio seating because of the size of our group but had to move inside because it was just too cold. With additional heaters on the patio area pointed around we would’ve been ok (I think), but the fact that we stayed says a lot!
Was disappointed with the amount of food. I ordered fish & chips. For $23 I should have been served more than just 2 little pieces of fish. I also asked for Cajun fries. Fries were just covered with a Cajun seasoning that was just poured on them. Some had too much seasoning and some were plain.
The food was excellent. Music was too loud. Almost impossible to have a conversation so I wouldn’t recommend for a first date or catching up with old friends. Service was very good - friendly and attentive.
Great place to dine with friends and family. Something on the menu for everyone. Mac and cheese a favorite.
We reserved online but the restaurant was not open - so we don't know why we could reserve?! That shoudl not be possible when the restaurant is actually closed! Really disappointing!!
Great energy this place offers with great music. Felt like this was a place that had people of color in mind rather then the people who are moving into the neighborhood lately due to gentrification. It feels good to walk into a place in your neighborhood that welcomes you with pretty good drinks/ food, 90's r&b and good looking black folks lol. i recommend anyone whos tired of cafe shops popping up and need a dose of unapologetic blackness :)
Our waiter was AMAZING.. My boss was excited that I picked such an amazing spot.
