Harbor Lights Ratings and Reviews
I took my wife here for dinner to celebrate her birthday and it couldn't have been any better. We were seated right next to the giant open air window with a full view of the harbor life. The server was very friendly. The food was excellent. The open air experience was simply sublime because of the weather and the proximity to the water. I will return soon.
It was an exceptionally beautiful day, so we decided to experiment and give Harbor Lights a try when we had family visiting from California. We were seated by the window with a lovely view of the Norwalk Harbor. We dined on Caesar salads, scallops, mussels, calamari, lobster and sea bass. Everything tasted very fresh and my teenage sons really liked the fried calamari since it wasn't greasy. Service was pleasant and prompt. We'll definitely go back again.
I specifically chose this restaurant bc I was bringing out of town guests who love seafood and would enjoy a water view. The food was great also the wine. However, we were sat next to a table of 10 who were celebrating very loudly I should think the host would have thought to seat us away from a large group having fun( no problem with them having fun) but we could not carry on a conversation. I had made reservations and specifically asked for a table close to windows and water. We were seated "in" and not near the windows. We also went early to avoid a crowd. That didn't happen. However, it was a beautiful night and the ocean breeze came through. I rated vy good but would have rated outstanding had it not been for the noise
Positives: Harbor Lights is a fantastic looking restaurant. It sits right on the East Norwalk Harbor, and the place is all windows to maximize the view. We went on a gorgeous evening and the windows were open to create a nice breeze. Other reviewers believe the place is too crowded but we thought the table setup was fine. Also the service was quite fast (we ate at 8 PM). The food looked very good on the plate.
Negatives: The bread was stale and tasteless (seemed like it had been sliced in the AM). My seafood linguini was cooked properly but had little taste. For the price of the entree a decent sauce is mandatory. My wife's Red Snapper was simply awful. Completely overcooked and inedible and had no taste.
First time at Harbor Lights and won't be our last. Food was delicious and my partner was in heaven to find cherrystones on the half shell. We had lunch on a Sunday when a brunch menu was offered. We wondered if there would have been more lunch specials on another day. But, I was happy with the lobster sandwich and the clams casino were fantastic.
Parking was a bit tough for 7:30P on a Saturday night, but worth the effort. Service was good, not rushed and everyone enjoyed the food.
The Tuna Tartar Tower and the calamari and New England clam chowder were hits as were the twin lobster tails, salmon and rack of lamb. Dessert selection is a bit limited and fortunately not enticing.
The location is nice and the harbor views from a table on the deck were really enjoyable. I was really surprised with some of the service. Our server was very nice but apparently she couldn't put in our appetizer order without having our full order so we felt rushed to make our order. People also kept coming by to clear our plates when we kept asking for more time. Sadly, the nice view and yummy oysters were overshadowed by service that made my night less than enjoyable.
We had such a fabulous time at Harbor Lights! Our server was friendly and knowledgable and recognized right away that we we're more than comfortable with taking our time and enjoying the evening. The food was delectable. Seriously. Cooked perfectly and so flavorful and fresh! We will absolutely be back for special occasions!
It was a nice restaurant on the water which we enjoyed seeing during our meal. To be honest though, our service was a little slow. It took a while for our drinks to arrive and then to get our order taken. Then we had to ask for bread as it didn't arrive when the waitress first asked us if we wanted it and we had said yes. We had one of the day's specials which was quite delicious. The waitress was nice about replacing a glass of wine that she had recommended to her and she didn't like. So, we appreciated that.
Went here on Mother's Day and had the prix fixe menu. Good choices but the food was not up to the restaurant's usual standards. Fish was dry and overlooked, mashed potatoes were dry and cold, broccoli was seriously undercooked. The server tried to make it right but the kitchen couldn't come up with anything better. Need more quality control for the next holiday so plates don't sit too long.
I brought my mother out to dinner for her birthday recently and found this place to less than what it claims to be. The service was good at first and then our table was ignored after more customers came in. Our food was less than satisfying for the prices they are charging. The only thing that was a saving grace was the view. I would never go back again
Everything was great except for the seating. More specifically, the windows are large and the view is very nice, but there are no shades. Anyone seated in the main dining room roasted in the sunlight magnified through the glass windows. We wore sunglasses and kept shifting our seats in an effort to avoid baking in the direct sunlight. That being said, I'd still recommend this restaurant. The service, food, drinks, and décor are very good. It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for at Harbor Lights.
The seafood linguine is amazing. At first I didn't think a seafood pasta could be this good, but oh boy, was it amazing.
If you ever wanna get laid: I recommend coming here right before sunset, so she could watch the sun set, get all ooey gooey inside, then have a candle light dinner with such a romantic atmosphere.
the place is like a scene from a movie or something lol
Nice view and there it ended. We were given a bad bottle of wine, which the waiter
unhappily exchanged. The waiter was less than energetic, never came over to our table to ask if we needed anything. Never offered a second cup of coffee. The restaurant was hosting a bridal shower and had made up our table against a glass wall that separated us from the party. We asked to be moved but alas it was only one table away. Will not return
My wife & I were recommended Harbor Lights when we first moved to Connecticut from North Carolina 3 years ago. We make it a point to visit once a year & enjoy our visit each time. The management & staff are engaging, welcoming & eager to please. The food is rich & delicious. The atmosphere is warm & inviting - even in the winter time they offer dining out on their enclosed patio with large windows perfect for viewing the water. For us it is a bit pricey, but it is perfect for that once-in-a-while date night splurge. Great restaurant!
It's funny, I saw another diner give this place a five-star experience on Valentine's Day and I wondering if they came in much earlier before things went south.A few of my hot buttons got pushed early. We waited for menus, water, offers of a beverage. We snagged a runner and finally got a wine list. They were obviously short-staffed, as indicated by people running all over the place to keep up, and tables being ignored.
I ordered sea bass w/some clams. The clams were awful. I gave one to my boyfriend and he spit it out! The fish tasted like it had been thawed out last week. The manager was gracious and replaced it with the chicken, which was surprisingly good. Too late, though. the experience had been ruined by everything up to that point.
My wife and I went to Harbor Lights for our Valentine’s Day dinner. It was a fixed price menu with excellent selections. We sat at a table for two, which had enough table space, along a window overlooking the water. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable regarding the menu selections and wine. Actually it was all frozen and no boats. But it would be even better in the spring and summer. We had a really enjoyable time. Will definitely go back with friends.
Harbor Lights has always been one of my favorite restaurants ... but not this night. Seems they were having a private party on a Saturday night. Felt like our dinner was an afterthought and all the focus of the wait staff was on those guests. This was a special birthday celebration and it just didn't feel special. Food was also not to usual standard but that could be because of the big party.
I've been to Harbor Lights before and thought it was very good, but this NYE was a disappointment. I didn't realize it would be a pre fixe menu, which was fine--there was enough of a selection. The place was packed and the waiter immediately apologized in advance for the delays we would encounter--he wasn't kidding! My corn chowder came out of the kitchen warm at best. By the time my surf & turf order went in, they were out of filet mignon so I got a thin strip steak cut in half. My lobster tail was overcooked, charred and rubbery. The side of "potato" on my husband's plate looked and tasted like it came out of a cafeteria. For the price we paid and the time we waited, I was extremely disappointed.
My girlfriend and I wanted to go someplace pleasant, comfortable, good food and have a nice experience. Harbor Lights was the place, and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The food was delicious and creative, although I would rate the service as average; but to be fair the restaurant was packed and everyone was hustling.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Harbor Lights on New Year's Eve with close friends. We were looking for something nice, but not noisy or boisterous. The wait staff are all friendly, helpful and efficient and the price fix menu was just right. Three members had the Chilean sea bass and I had the NY strip steak - all excellent choices. We each ordered a glass of house wine, which was just right and at a reasonable price. We look forward to summer evening dinners overlooking the harbor - one of our favorite spots! We've recommended Harbor Lights to others and we generally run into people we know when at the restaurant.
