Harbor Grill Ratings and Reviews
If you like oysters, Thursday All Day Oysters is a must! $9.95 for 1/2 dozen, prepared several different ways. At that price we made that our dinner, trying several ways. Were pleased with each choice. All meals looked fresh and appetizing. Staff friendly and attentive.
We live in Richmond, VA and found this place on Yelp. It was awesome. The food, the waitstaff (Sasha) and what can I say other than it was a great find. We were celebrating our Anniversary and this place was amazing.
The crab fried rice is to die for. I would go back just for that.
Thank you for an amazing dinner, Sasha...WE will be back
We've been coming here for our anniversary for several years. It has always been a bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion. I asked for a quiet table and wound up on the patio. this would not have been my first choice but OK. Service to the patio is a little slow. Both of us ordered small cesaer salad. Both salads were wet (waitperson removed salads from check... Her suggestion). Other food was fine as usual. Next time I'll be more specific for seating.
Overall OK but not the usual great evening.
This is always a great experience. Great food and service. They nicely adapted our meals to suit dietary needs. The setting is nice, quaint - not noisy and bustling like so many restaurants. No, they're not 'right on the water' but everything else makes up for it -- you can walk the harbor AFTER you eat!
Harbor Grill consistently has great seafood! When we want fresh seafood it is one of my top 2 choices. My favorite is the swordfish Japanese style, which is very flavorful:) They say it hot, but it isn't, just packed full of flavor. They also serve one of the best gazpacho soups we have had. It's a great place for a seafood dinner, just wish they had an ocean view, but great service and food! On the weekends there is a piano player which adds a nice touch.
The oysters on a half shell were exceptionally wonderful. My wife and I have eaten oysters in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, as well as on both America's East and West Coasts and in the South, and have never had better. The Lobster was delicious and very enjoyable. If I wanted to quibble, It could have been taken off the grill about 30 seconds earlier, but it was delicious. The entire staff at Harbor Grill are efficient, friendly, and give very nice service without being obtrusive. It's our go-to place for seafood in Dana Point.
This is a long time favorite of ours, with excellent seafood , lovely piano music, and professional, friendly service. Unfortunately, this time our experience was less than optimal due to the large party - two tables with 16 revelers - immediately next to our table. They acted as if it was their private dining room, running back and forth between the tables, calling loudly back and forth between the two tables, gathering for a loud toast, then playing a gift exchange game with much loud laughter and more running back and forth. The hostess was aware this was a large group and she should have seated us elsewhere. I fault her for that. Conversation between just the two of us was impossible, and we were reduced to just watching the activity right next to us. We ate our dinner as quickly as we could and left - so much for a nice date with my husband.
We went for an anniversary dinner & were a little disappointed. We go there off & on over many years & have seen some quality drop. The bread was not good & the salmon with pesto was way too oily. The veggies were just so so. Love hearing the piano music, but not the loud conversation behind me. The staff was nice. I will go there again, but not for a special occasion.
I took my husband here for his birthday. His all time favorite is the swordfish. As always, it was wonderful. Our son had swordfish also and I had the shrimp. The shrimp was fantastic and I will order that again. The Harbor Grill is a nice, somewhat casual place with great food and cocktails. It is always good!
On Thursday’s they have their oyster special . My daughter came to visit so we decided to entertain her there. I am allergic to shell fish but my husband & daughter raves about how good they were. We continued celebrating her return in Vegas. We went to Caesars Palace for one of their famous seafood / everything buffet. Their oysters were not anything to write home about. We will be returning to harbor grill again !
This neighborhood gem is not quite on the water, and that makes it go the extra mile to provide excellent service and solid food. My husband and I had a quick lunch here on a Sunday after walking along the waterfront. Our waitress was one of the best I have ever had. She spoke to guests at surrounding tables with such kindness that I am writing this review a week later and am still marveling at her great attitude. The clam chowder was exceptional, with soft clams and firm potatoes. My BLT w/ avocado was good. Next time my husband said he wouldn;t order the lobster roll, but I think that us just because lobster doesn't have as much flavor as he likes. All in all, an enjoyable meal.
We eat at the Harbor Grill any time we are in the Dana Point area (for vacation or business), and have been coming here for nearly 30 years. The food is always excellent, the service top notch and the location wonderful. It's always a great meal at a reasonable price.
