Harbor Grill Ratings and Reviews
This is a long time favorite of ours, with excellent seafood , lovely piano music, and professional, friendly service. Unfortunately, this time our experience was less than optimal due to the large party - two tables with 16 revelers - immediately next to our table. They acted as if it was their private dining room, running back and forth between the tables, calling loudly back and forth between the two tables, gathering for a loud toast, then playing a gift exchange game with much loud laughter and more running back and forth. The hostess was aware this was a large group and she should have seated us elsewhere. I fault her for that. Conversation between just the two of us was impossible, and we were reduced to just watching the activity right next to us. We ate our dinner as quickly as we could and left - so much for a nice date with my husband.
We went for an anniversary dinner & were a little disappointed. We go there off & on over many years & have seen some quality drop. The bread was not good & the salmon with pesto was way too oily. The veggies were just so so. Love hearing the piano music, but not the loud conversation behind me. The staff was nice. I will go there again, but not for a special occasion.
I took my husband here for his birthday. His all time favorite is the swordfish. As always, it was wonderful. Our son had swordfish also and I had the shrimp. The shrimp was fantastic and I will order that again. The Harbor Grill is a nice, somewhat casual place with great food and cocktails. It is always good!
On Thursday’s they have their oyster special . My daughter came to visit so we decided to entertain her there. I am allergic to shell fish but my husband & daughter raves about how good they were. We continued celebrating her return in Vegas. We went to Caesars Palace for one of their famous seafood / everything buffet. Their oysters were not anything to write home about. We will be returning to harbor grill again !
This neighborhood gem is not quite on the water, and that makes it go the extra mile to provide excellent service and solid food. My husband and I had a quick lunch here on a Sunday after walking along the waterfront. Our waitress was one of the best I have ever had. She spoke to guests at surrounding tables with such kindness that I am writing this review a week later and am still marveling at her great attitude. The clam chowder was exceptional, with soft clams and firm potatoes. My BLT w/ avocado was good. Next time my husband said he wouldn;t order the lobster roll, but I think that us just because lobster doesn't have as much flavor as he likes. All in all, an enjoyable meal.
We eat at the Harbor Grill any time we are in the Dana Point area (for vacation or business), and have been coming here for nearly 30 years. The food is always excellent, the service top notch and the location wonderful. It's always a great meal at a reasonable price.
My wife and two children eat here several times a including almost every Christmas Eve, and we absolutely love it. It is an absolutely terrific restaurant and highly recommended.
It was packed this past Christmas Eve which is why the noise level was "moderate", but it is usually a quiet restaurant. Also it has always seemed a bit over priced which is why I gave it a low mark for value, but that does not deter me from giving such a strong recommendation. Try it.
We absolutely love this restaurant. The food is wonderful every time we go there. The people are outstanding in the service. The Chilean bass is something like little angels dancing on your tongue! I would recommend this winder restaurant to anyone again and again!
Harbor Grill is a favorite restaurant of ours. The fresh seafood is always excellent and cooked to perfection. They have speciality martinis and an excellent wine list. The staff is personable and highly efficient. The piano player is there nightly and adds to the cozy atmosphere. This restaurant is a must if you haven’t been there yet.
We have always enjoyed coming here. We don’t eat out often but have made Harbor Grill top on the list. Unfortunately this visit both the salmon and mahi-mahi were very dry throughout the fish. Scallops and gumbo were great. We’ll go back for sure but stay away from the fish.
I had a great experience with this restaurant. I visited here last weekend for our anniversary and asked if I can have a table near to ocean view to watch boat parade. They advised me to find a private parking lot and the table was great to see the ocean view. Because it was dinner time, it was a little bit dark, but someone may love it. The server was great and they gave us a surprise cheese cake for anniversary. I recommend this restaurant.
Our server was really nice. The food was good but my vegetables tasted like they were frozen not fresh. My daughter found a hair in her Ahi Tuna and our server was very apologetic and replaced her meal, but they did not go beyond that with a free dessert or discount. The steamed claims and bread were very tasty!
I made a reservation here for dinner so that we would could easily walk to the bridge for the Dana Point Harbor Christmas Boat Parade. I frankly wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. While a bit pricey, the fish was excellent. There were some newer interesting choices as well as old favorites. They also had my friend's favorite white wine, Frank Family Chardonnay. Due to the parade, the place was jumping and a bit noisey, but we could still carry on a conversation. I'll be back.
