At Hanjan and Danji we choose to use meat raised with no antibiotics or growth hormones. Our fish are caught wild and are not overfished and endangered. We try to use as much organic and local produce as possible. No doubt these ingredients cost more but we believe the food we consume should be healthy and responsible as well as delicious.
What Insiders Are Saying
Hanjan is one of the best modern Korean restaurants that exists in NYC, and it’s especially Perfect For a pre- or post-Madison Square Garden meal.
It took 20 mins for us to be seated even with our reservation
The food here is always consistent and tasty. The team took an original 2 person reservation and accommodated 6 on a short notice.
The mains came out kinda slow. And on the mains, not too much meat (example the bulgogi only had a small scoop size of beef). The spin tofu literally only had one bite of beef and a lot of green onions.
The food is very good. I wish they served tea as it was exactly what I wanted after the bibimbap. Atmosphere is really nice - though once it gets full it's a little loud and close quarters. But overall it's a great restaurant with high quality and tasty food - one of the best in the neighborhood.
My friend had never eaten Korean food and enjoyed her meal so much she is planning to return! Thanks for a lovely evening. We ended up eating at the bar because our table wasn’t ready, but all in all a delightful evening.
I was so excited to try this place after it being enthusiastically recommended to me, but the food was just....fine. Inoffensive. And for a soup, a bowl of rice + sashimi, and one shared appetizer I was pretty surprised by a $60+ bill (yes, even accustomed to Manhattan restaurant prices, this was still pretty surprising for what wit was we received, especially off a lunch menu).
The service at the door and bar we're great. We we're disappointed in the following service at the table, not a single smile and seemed annoyed when we had questions. Made us actually uncomfortable. Then when the check came, gratuity was included for our party of 6. Guess that's why she didn't care if we enjoyed ourselves or not. Food was good, but the experience....
Excellent and tasty food. Amazing place.
Too bad for the noise though. Impossible to have a conversation with my friend ! Really spoilt the dinner.
Lovely, attentive service. Great food & cocktails. Highly recommended.
Very disappointed, service was fine but there was a severe lack of protein in everything we ordered. Cannot recommend.
The food here is always consistently good. We had the restaurant wee menu and it was outstanding. We closed the place down and they were really polite about it!
The food was awesome but the service was too rushed - I know it was a Friday and busy, but I'd like to enjoy the meal.
I make sure to have dinner here every time I visit NYC.
Love this place for lunch
Just wish they served green tea or barley tea
Friendly staff, it was a busy evening at the restaurant so I’m chalking up the gaps in services due to restaurant week’s foot traffic.
First the bad:
Didn’t get seated until roughly 30 minutes after our reservation.
Ordered a seafood pancake that never came, wasn’t charged.
Asked for another order of coke and waited another 10 minutes for it to arrive.
Appetizer fried chicken wing was amazing, tangy, crunchy, spicy. Yellowtail shashimi salad was also amazing! Love the different texture and flavors.
Very good service
Delicious with casual and appealing ambiance. Efficient, friendly staff. Would happily return.
I met a friend here during restaurant week. I'd heard of the restaurant and read great reviews so I wanted to try it. Everything we had was delicious - yellowtail sashimi, black cod, dumplings, & kimchi fried rice (not as good at Departure in Portland, OR, but very tasty). The interesting cocktails were really good too. More than that, the servers were extremely attentive. When my friend dropped her fork, a new one arrived almost magically within seconds. The staff was just extremely attentive and that is hard to find, especially combined with amazing food. It was the perfect place to catch up to an old friend after a long time. Will definitely go back.
Food was good.
The food was extremely salty. It was a very cold day and they had no warm drinks. No tea at a Korean restaurant?! They also did not provide any banchan, a must for all Korean restaurants.
The food was fantastic but the service ranged from adequate to poor. We had one member of our party arrive maybe 5-10 minutes early. He was not greeted or acknowledged, so he sat at the bar, where he was further ignored until someone asked him if he was going to order some food. Since when does a bartender not greet people who sit at a bar and also not offer them the opportunity to order a drink? Although there were many empty tables, we were seated directly next to a cement wall that was so cold it was like sitting next to a block of ice, with a draft coming from the kitchen. I could have kept my coat on and been very comfortable. It was 5 degrees outside and when we asked for tea, we were told “no coffee or tea”. Ok you don’t usually serve tea, but maybe on a night when everyone is coming in freezing you can have some tea, just because you care about the comfort of your patrons. We had an 8:30 reservation, we were on time, and we were told that they were closing and were practically kicked out at 10.
All of the appetizers we got were over $20. The bill for 4 people with very few drinks was just under $250. It’s not unreasonable at all for the caliber of food but absolutely ridiculous for the quality of the service, which was not even on par with a hole in the wall type of place.
Excellent food and ambience
We had the country dinner (sashimi, black cod, pork ribs, soup and dessert). A good value -- plenty of food and a nice variety. We were upstairs--a bit isolated buy quiet. Would recommend and go again.
With a reservation we were still seated at a community table. The entire meal myself and guests were slammed as servers rushed by.
Menu is very limited server had a terrible attitude. This is my 5th time at this restaurant and a complete birthday disappointment.
When we asked for a dessert for bday celebration the service looked disturbed and said we have very few desserts.
I would pass this restaurant for any special occasions- complete dissatisfaction.
exceptional food and staff...second time that I've been to the restaurant ...both times food was great
Expensive, but authentic and environmentally friendly - super service, but, most of all, just great food with excellent ingredients. Excellent Korean spirits as well as traditional Western wines. The Family Meal option is a plus but ordering a la carte, while more expensive, is really the best bet if each dish is shared across the table.
Food generally was very tasty. The service was sort of rushed as four of us were there for only one hour. This was the second time we were there and remembered the service being the same last time.
I would go again to try some of the other items on the menu, but with so many choices, might not be at top of my list.
Overall, very good good food, nice atmosphere but sort of rushed.
Excellent food. You’ll leave craving more and planning your next visit.
Service was very attentive and informing especially about the menu.
Timing on drinks, apps and entrees were spot on.
All the food was flavorful and fresh.
I was very surprised on the extent of their wine list! Def a huge plus.
Def recommendation for a date night. Casual or classy dressing is appropriate.
Only downside is the limited options on dessert.
Everything was incredible it was one of the best meals I’ve had this year
Not a comfortable place. No coat room. Have to hang your coat on a hook near the bar in the front. Table for 4 was in a communal table. Noise level off the charts hard to hear. Wine list lacking in breath. Exceptionally poor sake selection. Food just OK not worth all the hype. All in all not a very accommodating place for a fun time.
Really good Korean food, served hot and pretty quick. With lots of hard surfaces, it is pretty loud, so don't count on having meaningful conversation. I would still go back; it's not a huge time investment.
Food was outstanding and plentiful....staff was exceptional..,,outstanding
This place was fantastic. The food was sooo good. Will definitely be coming again!
Great food, excellent modern Korean dishes. Music is weird amrican elevator. Nice romantic decor doesn’t fit the sugary soundtrack.
Disappointing dining experience. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived at the booking time, and we were rushed through the whole process. We were interested in the set dinner menu so enquired about what it included, and it turned out one of our group of four had an allergy to an ingredient in one of the dishes - no, they couldn’t make any substitutions or alterations to the dish, and no, the remaining three of us couldn’t have the menu if he wasn’t. Having to think over our alternate orders, we asked to order some apps while we considered the menu but no, they had to take our whole order at once. Food was just ordinary with nothing memorable or innovative.
Awesome place. Always happy with the food and service
You have 1 hour and 15 min to dine on a Friday night.
The owner or head of service was not very nice or generous. Otherwise, good.
We had a fabulous meal with incredible service. It was our first time and we brought two out of town guests. From the bar snacks (fried chicken wings!) to the apps (yellowtail sashimi!!) to the mains (General Cho's chicken or short ribs!!!!) the food was great and not your typical presentations. The service was great, cordial, and knowledgable. We can't wait to go back!
