At Hanjan and Danji we choose to use meat raised with no antibiotics or growth hormones. Our fish are caught wild and are not overfished and endangered. We try to use as much organic and local produce as possible. No doubt these ingredients cost more but we believe the food we consume should be healthy and responsible as well as delicious.
What Insiders Are Saying
Hanjan is one of the best modern Korean restaurants that exists in NYC, and it’s especially Perfect For a pre- or post-Madison Square Garden meal.
With a reservation we were still seated at a community table. The entire meal myself and guests were slammed as servers rushed by.
Menu is very limited server had a terrible attitude. This is my 5th time at this restaurant and a complete birthday disappointment.
When we asked for a dessert for bday celebration the service looked disturbed and said we have very few desserts.
I would pass this restaurant for any special occasions- complete dissatisfaction.
exceptional food and staff...second time that I've been to the restaurant ...both times food was great
Expensive, but authentic and environmentally friendly - super service, but, most of all, just great food with excellent ingredients. Excellent Korean spirits as well as traditional Western wines. The Family Meal option is a plus but ordering a la carte, while more expensive, is really the best bet if each dish is shared across the table.
Food generally was very tasty. The service was sort of rushed as four of us were there for only one hour. This was the second time we were there and remembered the service being the same last time.
I would go again to try some of the other items on the menu, but with so many choices, might not be at top of my list.
Overall, very good good food, nice atmosphere but sort of rushed.
Excellent food. You’ll leave craving more and planning your next visit.
Service was very attentive and informing especially about the menu.
Timing on drinks, apps and entrees were spot on.
All the food was flavorful and fresh.
I was very surprised on the extent of their wine list! Def a huge plus.
Def recommendation for a date night. Casual or classy dressing is appropriate.
Only downside is the limited options on dessert.
Everything was incredible it was one of the best meals I’ve had this year
Not a comfortable place. No coat room. Have to hang your coat on a hook near the bar in the front. Table for 4 was in a communal table. Noise level off the charts hard to hear. Wine list lacking in breath. Exceptionally poor sake selection. Food just OK not worth all the hype. All in all not a very accommodating place for a fun time.
Really good Korean food, served hot and pretty quick. With lots of hard surfaces, it is pretty loud, so don't count on having meaningful conversation. I would still go back; it's not a huge time investment.
Food was outstanding and plentiful....staff was exceptional..,,outstanding
This place was fantastic. The food was sooo good. Will definitely be coming again!
Great food, excellent modern Korean dishes. Music is weird amrican elevator. Nice romantic decor doesn’t fit the sugary soundtrack.
Disappointing dining experience. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived at the booking time, and we were rushed through the whole process. We were interested in the set dinner menu so enquired about what it included, and it turned out one of our group of four had an allergy to an ingredient in one of the dishes - no, they couldn’t make any substitutions or alterations to the dish, and no, the remaining three of us couldn’t have the menu if he wasn’t. Having to think over our alternate orders, we asked to order some apps while we considered the menu but no, they had to take our whole order at once. Food was just ordinary with nothing memorable or innovative.
Awesome place. Always happy with the food and service
You have 1 hour and 15 min to dine on a Friday night.
The owner or head of service was not very nice or generous. Otherwise, good.
We had a fabulous meal with incredible service. It was our first time and we brought two out of town guests. From the bar snacks (fried chicken wings!) to the apps (yellowtail sashimi!!) to the mains (General Cho's chicken or short ribs!!!!) the food was great and not your typical presentations. The service was great, cordial, and knowledgable. We can't wait to go back!
Tasty food but a bit spicy
Full disclosure, I am American korean . I try to go to lots of new korean chef restaurant to support young new generation korean chef . Food was good but nothing special and nothing innovative , I was expecting more creative , inspired by korean cuisine but it was straightforward korean , maybe trendy korean. Interior was more creative than food . Silver Black cod was very nice but jjangmun was average. Seafood pancake was more like tempura , Concord grape sorbet and black sesame ice cream was great.
Most disappointing was service , definitely need to improve service.
Food was creative Korean prepared well and presented nicely.
Loved the Tofu - beef stew!
Always a great experience and authentic cuisine with a nice spin .
The overal menu is very Korean because I imagined more fusion with Amerucan dishes.
Dwenjang Jjige is a bit saltier and thicker than what I am used to. However I loved the fact that it has lots of tofus and fresh vefetable as its topping. Also it goes well with white rice.
Kkakdugi fried rice was my favorite.
The restaurant is cozy and tables are too close to one another. It's not a typical Korean barbecue place. The ambiance is more on the trendy side. The place is clean and good for a date. The menu is short but offers good choices. Worth a try.
Amazing!!! Staff was extraordinary!!
Dined here after learning Hanjan was by the same team as Danji, which we love. Happy to say Hanjan lived up to our expectations for creative twists on Korean comfort food served in a trendy venue.
From the moment we walked in we were greeted warmly by the entire staff and seated immediately, per our reservation. Our server was very sweet and took great care of us without any delays.
The food was incredible. We started with the dumplings and then shared the grilled brazeno and General Chos chicken. Everything was freshly prepared and extremely tasty.
For us, Hanjan represents what we love most dining in Manhattan... Trendy, unique and tasty. Highly recommend!
We had a number of the small dishes and three larger ones, along with cocktails and soju. Everything was excellent but we can call out the garlic fried chicken, sashimi, seafood pajeon pancakes and wagyu short ribs.
Restaurant was overbooked (how does this even happen?) and we were forced to sit at the bar (note that others came in after us and were given table seating). We offered to wait for a table but were told the next one would be available 1+ hours after yet somehow space magically opened up for other people.
Service aside, food was quite disappointing. Kimchi pancake arrived burnt and other appetizers were quite oily. Do not recommend.
The food was good, but rather pricey for what you get. I suppose that's just NYC. The main off-putting element of the dining experience was how rushed the we were to get in and get the hell out. From the start, our waitress, with her words and actions made it abundantly clear that they were very busy that night, and we were expected to not linger. We don't normally consider ourselves slow diners - we're pretty efficient at ordering and eating. But it was extremely distasteful (excuse the pun) how nakedly apparent it was that the restaurant was only interested in moving us along, so they could seat the next party (and so on). Not a business model that appeals to me.
The food was delicious, the service just right (as other reviewers have said), and the atmosphere was vibrant. The noise level was VERY HIGH - the clamor of people having fun, so I wouldn't come wanting conversation.
food was incredible! However service was rushed and curt.
Awesome food and service every time here at Hanjan! My favorites are Jewel of the sea and the cod roe rice. Two thumbs up to the newly cured cod roe! Hmmmmm so goooood!
So happy I finally got to try Hanjan! Came here on a Friday night with a group of my girl friends. Once has been here before so she took the liberty to order for all of us. Kimchi pancake, ddukbokki, sizzling fish roe rice, wings and cold bibim nyengmyun. The ddukbokki and sizzling rice was my favorite! The ddukbokki was crispy and the rice was just AMAZING. The staff was also super sweet as well. Two of us arrived at the place first so we grabbed a drink at the bar and the bartender was super nice and friendly. Our waitress with the short hair and glasses was super sweet and welcoming as well! Oh, and you must get the makkegoli as well. This was my first time having it served in a ice cold beer glass and that totally changes the experience. Will definitely be coming back for the rice cakes, fish roe rice and the makkegoli.
Fantastic food and great service. Def coming back.
The service is always on point and the flavors and food are so authentic while still appealing to the young and hip.
Food was really good and could enjoy authentic taste. The amount of food wasnt that enough though, the value of this place is with no doubt.
Food was great and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. However, I made a reservation at 7pm and got seated at 7:50pm. The reservations system is clearly very poorly managed. The manager. We were comped with a round of drinks and the cheapest entree but I believe if they were really apologetic, we should have been comped more (comp us for the most expensive entree instead of the cheapest entree considering we were seated close to an hour after our reservation time).
Hanjan beautifully combines minimalistic dining with complex Korean fare. The soy poached cod was strongly flavored and was perfectly paired with the slightly sweet short grain white rice. It was able to invoke nostalgic feelings of a home cooked meal.
The kimchi fried rice had a great combination of the flavor palate, however, the sourness came out too strong and overpowered the other flavors.
We're never disappointed with lunch at Hanjan. The flavors are always bright and the food is beautifully presented. I wish they'd add tea to the menu.
Good interesting "nouvelle" Korean food at reasonable prices. But the noise level, as in so many other trendy restaurants, will make me think twice before going next time.
The food was overall too salty and I had to leave most of the food. I do not want to recommend it!
