Handcraft Kitchen & Cocktails Ratings and Reviews
It was a snowy evening and we wanted to find a place close to the hotel. This restaurant was only 500 feet away so we booked a reservation. When we got there, we found the place with standing room only in the front where the bar was. A table was waiting for us and four of us sat down.
It was difficult to have a conversation over dinner; the noise was just too loud to speak in a normal conversational voice. We had to shout to be heard.
The food was better than expected and the service was just fine. But if you’re looking for a sit-down relaxing dinner restaurant, you will find it challenging to talk. The food made up for the difficulty in having a conversation though.
We went here to celebrate my birthday last weekend and it was absolutely perfect. There were ten guests at our table and they were attentive the entire time - I think we ended up being there for three hours. The bottomless option was amazing - our table had the house punch and mimosas, and the drinks literally never stopped - we even received complimentary shots. The food was AMAZING! We had the Truffle Fried Burrata, Jerk Wings and Deviled Eggs for appetizers - highly recommend ALL! I had the Handcraft Breakfast for my meal and it was delicious. There wasn't a single complaint from anyone in our party. I will definitely be going back here whether it is for brunch, lunch, dinner or happy hour. Thank you Handcraft Kitchen for the amazing birthday celebration!!
Wrapped up a mtg w/colleagues around the corner, and we headed over for a libation - which was fantastic! Make sure you order Cocktail #3, absolutely hit the spot! Tried a couple nice items from the menu, I recommend the deviled eggs, pulled pork sliders and cauliflower burger. Everything's got a kick to it, a bit hot/spicy, but was all very flavorful. Mangia!
Some good points and some bad points.
The good - The bloody mary was delicious. I've had a fair share of bloody's and this one was really good. The server was really nice but it ends there. They comped my order for her mistake. See below.
The bad - They messed up my order. Our waitress couldn't read her own short-hand and entered breakfast burrito instead of breakfast burger. My husband's food and the incorrect dish - burrito, came at the same time. I am waiting, without anything to eat while my husband is eating alone, so his food doesn't get cold. Of course, now I have to order another awesome bloody..... When my burger does arrive, it's over cooked. I ordered medium, it's well done. I'm just glad they took it off our bill.
Are at the back of the restaurant where the seated area is. Food was decent, price was not bad, and drinks were great. Our server could've been a little more attentive to us since there were only a few tables to be waited on. If in the area again, will definitely check out happy hour.
We picked the place because it's near the Kips Bay movie theatre.
The person at the bar, who was very friendly, took me to my table, which was is in the back, away from the bar, and quieter. The rest of the staff was very attentive. I had the duck breast, which was really well prepared with quinoa, peas and other vegetables. The presentation looked great. My friend had the Jambalaya, which he also really liked. Would definitely go back.
The place is cute and offers interesting brunch dishes. Portions were generous. The only thing is that the service really needs to be improved. There was no one at the door to seat us so after waiting 5 minutes, we walked up to the waitress in the back of the restaurant and asked for a table. There seem to be only 2 waitresses working the brunch hours. No one ever came to refill my coffee. And when I asked for a refill, the waitress disappeared and never came back. I had to ask for a refill again from a different waitress. Maybe it was just an off day. I would try the place again and see if service improves since I liked the food.
We had exceptional service on Thursday night. A member of our party ordered medium rare lamb chops and although they came out well done, the server immediately noticed and took back the dish. The owner then came out with the now perfectly cooked lamb, apologized and bought us drinks, which is really above and beyond. I thought he handled the situation so well, it was wonderful to be treated so well. You can tell he really takes pride in his establishment and wants everyone to leave happy. We had a great night as a result and will definitely be back! Thank you!
Went here with a friend. She had mussels and a salad. I had crab cake and macaroni and cheese. She seemed to be satisfied with her food. The crab cake was ok. Only one and it was $16/17 for the appetizer. The Mac was also about $15/16 but was pretty good and cheesy. Wasn't particular impressed with the food for the price but our waiter was attentive and funny.
I arrived on time for my 8pm reservation. Waited over 30 minutes for a table. Asked the hostess several times when the table would be ready, she told me "in a few minutes" every time I asked. Was finally seated around 8:40 and had subpar wait staff service for the rest of the evening.
Food was good, but the menu is small. I suggest the crab grilled cheese.
Made last minute reservations for a party of 5 on Saturday night for 6 PM but really didn't need them. We were first shown to a very small table but asked for a bigger one as there was only one other table filled and we were not going to all fit squeezed in to that small space. Service was good, food was tasty and it's hardto please three teens. The music was very loud for an empty restaurant and that was unpleasant. Needed to get the waitresses attention several times to get the check. She was standing nearby talking with other staff. Other than that a good meal.
Very active drinking scene. Hard to believe how noisy it was, especially in the front section. We were seated in the back where we could hear each other. Pretty well. Had we been in the front, we would have left because it's nearly impossible to have more than a two way conversation there.
Tasty drinks. Good food.
Bryan, our bartender, was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. He's a keeper! After we were sat and received our food, the manager checked on us to see if we liked our food, which doesn't happen a lot these days in many of the restaurants I've been to. We appreciated this added detail. Everyone's food and drink was very especially delicious and filling. You have to try the Shrimp and Gumbo Grits! So creamy... I would most definitely come back for brunch and would love to dine here for dinner.
