About Hana Japanese Restaurant
For over 25 years we have had the honor of spreading some of the most traditional Japanese dishes from "izakaya" style bites to a full on sushi bar, the experience at Hana is a bit out of the ordinary but we assure you that the flavor of the food hits home for anyone who has been exposed to real Japanese food culture.
While offering the most extensive sake list & the origin of sake tasting rooms in California, Danny Pitassy - Beverage Director/Sake Sommelier - will present each different sake with it's own unique and distinct flavor notes in a fashion that even as a beginner, you would be able to come up with your own tasting notes the next time around. Most importantly, behind the sushi bar will be chefs that perfected their craft in Tokyo to meticulously translate the Kantō flavors of Chef Owner Ken Tominaga here in Northern California.

Hana Japanese Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Hana is by far the best sushi anywhere!!! I've been to at least 30 different sushi restaurants in my life and this tops any of them! Every single time we come here it is top notch, from the service to the amazing food. Super fresh and very artistic! Anything you get is fab!! It's a bit pricey but definitely worth every cent!
Hana lived up to it's 5 star reputation. We especially enjoyed there Saki flights. The sushi was outstanding! The quality of their fish can't be beat. I had a melt in your mouth grilled black bass and my wife had the Wafu Seafood combination. Everything was cooked perfectly. We will definitely return soon.
Friendly, warm, professional, Marina is an exceptional, smartest hostess.Danny is the perfect employee, true team player always working the hardest and zipping around like a ninja. Chef Ken is gracious and humble, he stops by to check on diners when he gets the opportunity.
My adult daughter and I have eaten at Hana twice in the recent months. The service is friendly without being over bearing. The decor in the dining area is spare and agreeable. Sushi, nigiri, fresh choices of seafood. Other menu items include tempura, pork cutlets, veggies. The most impressive dish for me is the Japanese soufflé cheesecake.
Hana is worth every penny--dollar spent there. The food is amazingly fresh, flavorful, and unique.
Ken, the owner, made the rounds in the room, making sure everyone was happy and completely satisfied with the meal. We tried 4 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 bento boxes---all were fantastic.
The great reviews on here got us really excited for the experience and, while good, it was a bit of a let-down. The hostess was very nice and it felt like it was going to start off great. Seated at the table, about 5 minutes in, we got water and not towels. A full 15 minutes go by and not a single other person comes near us. It wasn't until I flagged a waitress down that we were asked if we wanted a drink... an appetizer... anything. It was busy in there, but we witnessed other tables getting attention and then, a table of three was seated two tables from us and had drink and food orders taken five minutes after they sat. (yes, we made it a point to check).
Anyway, they did get a little better after that, but the pacing was all over the place and most dishes were just okay. We were really expecting the Crabzilla Roll ($20) to be spectacular and had it to close the meal. HUGE disappointment. The crab was a bit skunky and it was just overall bland. Didn't even finish it. Waitress never bothered to ask how it was which I think is odd.
All in all, it's not the worst place. They do have a decent sake menu and server seems to be really into it. You could definitely do worse.
I can't talk enough about this place. Why does one go to a sushi restaurant? To be served the best fish in the highest presentation. Hana does this to a T. We sometimes sit at the bar and tell the sushi chefs, "just keep bringing us your best preparations." And they do. I love this place 100 times over. Sake guy is, how do you say, off-setting. But he knows his stuff and will bring you amazing sake that you've never thought of. 5 stars over and over. Been here for 4+years and can't wait to go back.
My daughter loves sushi so when we were in the area recently we stopped in for lunch at Hana. The decor is calming and comfortable, the menu extensive. We sat where we could see the freshest fish in the specially refrigerated cases. I ordered a tempura dish and my daughter enjoyed sushi. The service was attentive. The star of the meal, for me, was the Japanese style cheesecake. It's lighter than the ordinary cheesecake and I'm already looking up recipes so I can try to recreate it at home!
Strictly for serious sushi connoisseurs willing to pay top price for the very best in fresh authentic Japanese sushi. My bluefin tuna, giant clam and tobiko with quail egg were tiny portions but the best I have ever tasted. Hana has a large sake and tap beer menu, as well as creative cocktails. Service is refined but the restaurant is popular with tourists and families who are not so quiet. The interior is beautiful but the restaurant is located in a nondescript strip mall in an older tract home development. It is a comfortable but not a romantic setting. A real treat for fresh sushi foodies.
We were dissapointed that we reserved a table on OpenTable for dinner at Hana and then when we drove 35 minutes there, they said they dont take reservations vua Open Table. They said they couldnt accomodate a table of 4. We were not happy and had to go find another restaurant close by. I dont rec ommend this restaurant!!
I was looking for a Japanese restaurant here in RP while I was visiting. The reviews were good so I came to Hana. Well, the reviews didn't do this place justice. Truly a gem! The freshness and quality was 2nd to none!! Dan the sake sommelier was incredible with his suggestions. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who likes great Japanese food!
I was with a Japanese and was expecting a more authentic Japanese restaurant, like before.
I mean... this restaurant used to be the only game in town + at the time was also the best Japanese restaurant north of San Mateo. But now not so much. I'd say they need to improve their menu selections and improve either food portions or quality now to compete with the other restaurants in the region.
I didn't try their sashimi/sushi this time... which used to be legendary in the area. It might still be quite good.
It's still ok but for the high prices I think nowadays there are better choices in Sonoma County now.
We were staying in the nearby hotel so thought we would give this restaurant a go
The sushi was stunning well-prepared incredibly fresh probably the best salmon sashimi, I have ever had.
The restaurant closes quite early at 9 PM so they get caught out .
Service was very good
