About Hampton's Restaurant
Located in the JH Adams Inn, Cristina Gray's Restaurant and Bar serves contemporary cuisine. Created by Chef Derek Cress, its menu includes American, Italian and French inspired fare. Each dish is prepared using fresh, local ingredients and high quality meats. Some items on the menu at Cristina Gray's Restaurant and Bar include a variety of sandwiches and salads along with entrées like meat loaf, seared duck and shrimp pasta.
Besides fine dining, Cristina Gray's Restaurant and Bar features afternoon high tea along with a wine bar and live music every Thursday evening. Housed in an historical building, it provides a charming and sophisticated dining atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating.

I recently celebrated my birthday with family and friends at the JH Adams Inn. It was the first time for all seven of us. We had the perfect dining experience! We had delicious appetizers paired with quality wines. Our dinners had beautiful presentation and everyone loved their meals. I loved the atmosphere and our service was exemplary! Next visit, I might just spend the night!
Hampton was perfect for our 9800 day anniversary! The appetizer Corn & crab cheesecake was outstanding. The salad was expensive but just the right combination of flavors.
Our main of Seabass was flaky and done to perfection. Stacy our waitress was what a professional should be-friendly, knowledgable and " just Right" attentive.
All in all a wonderful evening at Hamptons!
Cannot really complain about the food or the service - both were pretty good. The let down is the age and "crustiness" of the building. It's just all a bit tired.....which is disappointing. So if all you care about is the food and service then its a winner. If you want the complete package then not quite so much, especially as it was not cheap - the steak special was $58....ouch! Would I go again - sure. Would I rush back with my friends in tow......no.
I am an employee from a local restaurant here in High Point! I recently lost my fiance'..he passed away on December 29th so this was my first "date" since then. I really just wanted some adult company and to have a fabulous dinner. I have been here before but normally just sat in the bar and had an appetizer. I am glad we chose to do the whole nine yards. HE was from out of state so he stayed at the Inn and I just walked over from Emerywood.....We were so pleased with everything. From the minute we walked in we were treated so womderful. As a patron of High Point I was very pleased that my local restaurant exceeded my dates expectations by far! Thanks for a great evening!
We stopped in during our son's Freshmen Orientation at High Point. We were looking for something quiet, with an upscale atmosphere and fresh, delicious food and Hampton's was perfect fit.
We plan to visit it often during the next four years of Jake's collegiate career.
This was our first time dining at Hampton's. The brunch was as advertised. They did run out of potatoes but substituted mac and cheese which we all liked. Overall a nice place with a lot of character. There is an outdoor dining area that we look forward to trying.
The food was good but very few options for Easter brunch. Was disappointed in the selection compared to the high cost. They had more desserts than anything else. Would like to try them for dinner on a non holiday as the regular menu looks good. Won't go back for a holiday meal however.
We dined here last year for our Honeymoon Night Dinner (Valentine's Day). The total experience then was outstanding. We came back this year for our Anniversary Dinner (Valentine's Day Eve). The food was just as amazing as last year; however, the service left more to be desired. I indicated in my Open Table request to be seated in a specific location of the restaurant. The hostess asked nothing about my specific instructions; however, the table was open & we asked to be seated there instead. After being seated, the waitress (who's name I don't recall) took our drink order & brought our drinks. After one more visit, we made our food order & the food was brought to the table about 20 minutes later, which is well within reason. This is where it all turned another direction. While waiting for our food, we asked our waitress if we could be brought bread to the table. She proceeded to tell us, "I'm sorry. We just ran out." I would expect a restaurant of this capacity to at least offer to see what they could do in regards to pre-dinner bread. To top it off, we saw dinner bread brought before we asked, as well as, multiple times (3 to be exact) after we were told "they ran out." We did not question the waitress about it again, mostly because she did not return to ask how or meal was, nor to ask for drink refills.
The occupancy was not to capacity & we didn't see her waiting on more than 5 tables during our visit.
We will most likely return again as we intend to make this somewhat of a tradition; however, we would love to have a waiter as we did our first time around.
This was my first experience with Hampton's. We booked it solely through available reservations on Open Table. Our table was ready upon arrival, we were greeted by our server approximately 15 minutes after being seated. Questions were answered about the menu our order was taken after another 15 minutes food arrived, NY Strip, Crab Cakes, and Salmon was all excellent. We asked for bread and was told by our server they were out. After we had finished our meal we noticed bread coming from the kitchen. We asked for water & tea refills they were never offered. We were not offered or asked if we would like another glass of wine. We were not offered desert. Our server seemed frazzled and stretched too thin although she seemed to be supported by other staff members. We spoke to the chef / manager about our experience, he explained that a batch of bread had been burned which got them behind in serving. He apologized, invited us back for dinner on the house. Which I believe was a great try at appeaseing our concerns with our server. Two ends of the spectrum with our experience service one star, food 5 stars and no complaints. At this point I can not recommend this restaurant however I will update my review after our next visit.
Valentines weekend, 2016.
Entrees were pricy, which would have been fine but our steaks were fatty and gristly. Covered in a bland sauce with even more bland mashed potatoes. My mother makes better mashed potatoes and she's not a good cook. The "winter veggie" on the side was about a spoonful of corn. Soup appetizer was supposed to be served hot but came out undermicrowaved - the next table over had the same problem.
Servers were friendly but unattentive. There were about 6 people who served us so we hardly saw our assigned server.
Couldn't have asked for better wine or ambiance, gotta hand it to them there. But a $120+ meal should have left me with a full belly and a happy palate. Not gonna lie, we left here and went to Applebee's for half priced apps and had much better food. Very, very dissatisfied with this place.
My wife and I ate here on the day prior to Valentine's. The overall place was very nice, we were seated in a small room with 3 other tables. We arrived at 7pm for our reservation. We received water shortly thereafter and gave our drink and food orders shortly after that. At 7:52pm the food arrived, up until this point there were no drinks, bread, etc. My NY strip was tasty but underwhelming with the quantity. My wife's salmon, however, was not tasty and her plate provided 3 pieces of asparagus. At 8:53pm we finally got our bill. Perhaps it was just the night or the busyness of the place, but our service was very poor and we left hungry.
Food was good but expensive. Waitstaff was untrained. We were on the top floor. the table of 6 next to ours waited for their food order for at least 1 1/2 hours (they were already seated when we arrived and were still there - they just got their bread - when we left!).
Our waitress took our order but various others served the food. Of course, they had no idea who ordered what - and even brought food to the incorrect table.
When we received the bill we remarked to the waitress (Stacey) that we never got any bread. She replied, "I'm sorry, that was the bread boy's fault".
The restaurant is pretending to be first class but they had no manager overseeing the staff.
The special lobster and corn bisque was outstanding! My husband and I shared it and a salad and neither of us could finish our entrees. Everything was very good, and as my husband name is Hampton, we plan to return for other special events. It was definitely worth the drive from downtown WS.
We were in High Point for a meeting and this was the only Open table Restaurant. The renews were good, so we went. It is situated i an Inn with comparable charming vintage atmosphere. The menu is fabulous, we had soups, both wonderful and a roasted beet salad with Ahi Tuna, perfection. Dessert was a fabulous creme brûlée.
This place was such a pleasant surprise. Left wondering how we have been coming to High Point for 4 markets a year since 2007 and never heard of it! It is stunning, the service was top notch, and food was beautifully prepared and delicious. Will be back for sure!!!
I wish I could give a better review. Alas, due to poor, essentially lack of, customer service, I cannot. My wife and I dined at Hampton's in February and had an excellent experience. We live, work and play in High Point, so it was a pleasure to find an upscale restaurant so close to home. We decided to book our 23rd wedding anniversary dinner for 6/20/15. I did this through Open Table on 6/8/15. I then received a phone call from the restaurant on 6/15/15 saying they have to cancel my reservation due to a wedding being hosted at the Inn/restaurant. Although the person on the phone stated they were sorry for the inconvenience, there was no offer to reschedule. They simply said thank you and hung up. Luckily, I was able to find a suitable alternative with less than 5 days to go. I contacted Hampton's by email to state my dissatisfaction and have still not received a phone call nor reply, hence my review today. I find it hard to believe that the restaurant was not aware of, or just booked a wedding when I submitted my reservation request on 6/8. Furthermore, it took them an entire week to figure out they had bookings (I am sure we were not the only ones). Finally, why not offer guests who were displaced the opportunity to come on a different day. This, combined with no response from anyone, tells me that the Adam's Inn and Hampton's Restaurant does not care about its patrons (unless, of course it is Furniture week, them I am sure I would have had a different response). This is a shame as I am a High Pointer. So, I will no longer dine, nor recommend, the Hampton's Restaurant to anyone.
Our lunch was great. Sometimes it's nice to go for the comfort of a pretty salad and chicken salad croissant. The service was excellent and the prices were reasonable. This was a great spot to stop before a performance at High Point University. It was too cold to eat outside, but we'll be back to enjoy a meal on the terrace.
We had lunch here (staying at the Inn) and it was very good. Nice presentation, tasty, varied menu. Service was a bit slow, though, but once we got the food, forgot about the wait. Decided to try the restaurant for dinner as it was highly reviewed online. Atmosphere was changed for the evening: tablecloths on the tables and candles. We had 1/2 off all glasses of wine and there was a 3-piece band for entertainment (a bit too loud for such a small restaurant, though). Had pork tenderloin and scallops. Both were delicious and beautifully presented! Would highly recommend the restaurant despite the unusual location. But don't let that dissuade you!
You have to be ready for sauce when you travel in the South. It was good, but a little more than I prefer. The fried asparagus was wonderful. The wait staff was distracted the first night we went there, but we did eventually get the right dishes. Service was slow between courses. Music was fun. I will still come back.
The restaurant itself was pretty nice. However, the food was not worth the price paid. $27 for a chicken breast with mashed potatoes and green beans is a bit overkill and it was not spectacular. It was also one of the lower-priced entrees. My wife had the salmon and said it was good, but not $35 good. We don't mind spending money for great food but we left a bit disappointed.
Treated 3 ladies (for their birthdays) to Hampton's special Tea. It was fantastic and beyond my
expectation. Kristin did an outstanding job. We are all still talking about our experience. All
three ladies are planning an event to bring family and friends to the tea.Thank you Kristin. We
will be back.
I love the history of this place and the food is reliable and delicious. We waited a good 15 minutes before we got a server, and that was with asking twice. However, they we very apologetic and offered a free glass of wine or dessert. Market time is always crazy and we understood. I will come back for sure next market.
