Hampton Street Vineyard Ratings and Reviews
This particular visit I was disappointed. Te oyster appetizer special was great. The entrees were not. The swordfish was slightly overcooked causing little dryness, the duck breast was undercooked creating a toughness to the meat. For the value and the money spent, was disappointed this visit.
It was a wonderful meal. The food and service were excellent. Our server, William, was attentive without being intrusive. Noise level was a little higher than I expected for a restaurant of this quality. This may be due to the small and intimate, but open, dining area. My wife and I intend to return as often as we are able.
Nice enough but the main courses were petite and the crab cake was served just warm on a bed of COLD ratatouilly.. when returned to be warmed up they left the ratatouille cold and over cooked the crab cake. Pork chop was well cooked but tasteless.
Date night with wife... not good.
Small nice restaurant. Bartender seemed distracted and attire disheveled...he was “okay” ...our waitress was inattentive, gave perfunctory responses when questioned hostess very cordial and waiter Will checked on our table very graciously and charmingly...
Mixed bag experience. Food and ambience sit on
One of our favorites in Columbia; we dine there whenever we are in town. They have been consistently top notch over the years. Easy step down from street level; there is a pleasant intimacy in the dining - there is also another dining room that lends itself to groups. Nice wine list and well-stocked bar but what sets them apart is the food - a creative menu, artfully preparsd and presented dishes and terrific service.
Service was wonderful and quick (we were on a business lunch so this was a plus) and the food was delicious and there were tons of options without it being overwhelming. This was great as I had to plan this lunch for a group that I wasn't really sure of allergies/preferences. Highly recommend.
My husband had the buffalo and I had the swordfish. He said the buffalo was a little tough but that was expected (and made note of by our waitress.) The flavor was great, however. The swordfish was very good.
There was a USC football game that night, so the restaurant was very quiet which was nice.
Excellent food prepared perfectly, quite noisy because it is small but overall very pleasant, excellent waiter, very knowledgeable about menu and selections, ingredients! Only drawback is limited parking on street with meters but not too bad for lunchtime. Very nice and pleasant restaurant!
I live up north in CT so when I come to Columbia I love trying new unique restaurant s. MY Fiance gives me the pleasure of picking a new location for our date nights. She lives in columbia so I have to do some research to find one unknown to her. Well we have been to all the regular spots the uber drivers recommend. Not bad. But Hampton Street I found on my own. Everything from the friendly and fun service. To the creative blend of southern traditional and classic American. You have no idea what you are about to experice moving your now multi colored fork into your mouth. There is a word fir it but I believe it is pronounced more with ummms and ahhhhs. Then a full mouthed "you have to try this". We had a full experience and loved it. We will be back after the holidays. If they have the fried oysters special...order two. Thanks
The food at Hampton Street is always amazing. Our waiter this time didn't seem to have his whole heart into being at work. After pouring our white wine he put it on the table and didn't bother to put it in the chiller that was adjacent to our table nor did he bother to refill our glasses throughout the evening.
Creative menu in a cozy restaurant downtown
We're in town for the hurrivac, and what a great way to forget Irma for a short time. We both had the tomatillo-corn-jalapeno gazpacho: refreshing, spicy but not too much, moderated by the sweetness of fresh corn kernals. I ordered the seared ahi tuna with edamame. The tuna was incredibly tender and the dots of ginger-soy were a perfect complement to the fish. My husband had a special, grilled swordfish over mushroom risotto. A lovely swordfish steak, perfectly cooked; the risotto was delicious. Service was pleasant, friendly, and the atmosphere is fun. The small space at a level a few steps down from street has a European feel, and the French posters add to that atmosphere. We will definitely return, just hope it's not because of a hurricane.
Our meal was tastefully prepared and presented. We were well attended and served. The wine list is exceptional.
The hard walls, ceiling, and floor accentuate noise, and ventilation is not adequate, which caused food smells to permeate our clothing.
Would suggest a table near the entrance. The private room is likely a better place to dine.
In the top three of restaurants on Main Street.
Great food and service! Wine list is fantastic and extensive, biggest I've seen. My only complaint was the noise, way too loud. They need to figure out how to dampen it. We had a very large group next to our table, plus the bar was full. Everyone was trying to talk over each other. I felt like I had to yell at my wife so she could hear me. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic dinner you should look somewhere else.
