Last time I ate there I was disappointed with the service and the food. This time the service was excellent and the food was very good. Having worked in the food service industry, my only suggestion is that the sound level at your restaurant is almost unacceptable. Here's why....
I suspect that some of your customers are 65 and older. Note that people of that age sometimes have hearing issues. Your hard flat ceiling coupled with your hard flat floor makes for a very loud environment. It is difficult to talk to one's dinner mates. If I wanted to improve ambiance of the restaurant, I would install sound dampening material on the ceiling.
My wife and I definitely enjoyed both the venue and the food here. We felt well looked after and the various dishes we had were wonderful. It was slightly noisy and could use some subtly placed acoustic baffling to reduce noise, but it was not unbearable.
Great experience, food & service!
Great food, wine, location, atmosphere, everything.... It was perfect.
Quaint downtown restaurant. The serving team works together and knows their menu well and take pride in it. The Duck confit & sirloin were exquisite. Their speciality sweet potato dessert with cinnamon ice cream was a perfect ending....as was the banana pudding cheesecake! All desserts made in house. We will return soon! Also nice outdoor seating if desired. A bit noisy inside.
One of our favortie 's in Columbia, SC. The food, service, wine list, and ambiance is always the best. Our server Steve was incredible.
Everything was fantastic!! Our server was great. The foie gras was out of this world. We definitely can’t wait to go back....
Very solid option for more upscale dining in Columbia, SC.
Amazing! Took my Mom for her belated birthday and Mother's Day. We all got different entrees and loved them. My Mom adored the creme brulee. Wine list was fun. Service was great-very attentive and patient.
Server came across as having a bit of an attitude when questions were asked and as orders were being placed.
We had a fabulous night at Hampton Street Vineyard. It was a family celebration and we were able to use the wine vault for a private dinner. The menu had just changed over to summer fare and I had the trout special, served with stone ground grits and an etouffee sauce - really good! My niece and father both had the Wagyu sirloin served with a Gouda mashed potato - plates were cleaned. My nephew tried the new Pad Thai dish, his first foray into Thai cuisine, and liked it. Mom had the pasta special - house made fettuccini with shrimp in a tomato-based sauce. My sister and her mother-in-law enjoyed the salmon - again, clean plates; and my brother-in-law and brother both had Diver scallops.so, we pretty much tasted the entree menu 👨🍳! The team at HSV were welcoming and took great care of us, even coming by to congratulate my niece on her graduation. And our waiter, Greg, was knowledgeable, and helpful, especially to the older folks at the dinner. The evening was very special for our family.
Our meal was delicious. I only wish for a little more variety to the appetizer options and some more seasonal items. Will definitely be back when looking for a special occasion dinner option.
Food was outstanding, our waiter was awesome and the atmosphere was pretty cool. Will def be back.
Lunch - very limited menu; finally decided on crab cake.
Crab cake was bland and had shell in it. Beans concoction it was served on flavorless and undercooked. The half teaspoon of sauce lasted thru about two bites of the crab cake.
Waiter was inattentive until tip time...imagine that.
Bugs crawling in walls. Waiter leaned over table smashed one on the wall... needless to say lost my appetite.
Phenomenal experience beginning to end. Calamari and all entrees were excellent, service was great and awesome wine list with very fair prices. Can’t wait to go back.
I actually had a gift certificate for another restaurant but there were no reservations available and found Hampton Street Vineyard and I am happy I did. I didn't know the restaurant was even there. My husband and I really needed a quiet night out after a very long and stressful week at our office and this was the perfect place to have excellent food and great service in this great restaurant. The atmosphere reminded us of dining during our trips to NYC and Europe. It was the perfect place for date night and if you haven't tried it yet I highly recommend you do!
Excellent food and service. We were a party of 4 and didn't have difficulty conversing. Noise was not an issue.
The HSV has been a favorite of mine for years when ever I find myself in Columbia, SC. The sweet potato coconut curry soup was outstanding with just enough spice from the curry. The off the menu flash fried oysters are a must if your an oyster fan. Finishing the evening with the pasta special of homemade fettuccine with sliced bison fanned out on top. The HSV is a must when in downtown Columbia. 👍👍👍👍👍
Another amazing meal. The coconut soup is superb with spot on flavor!
Fabulous neighborhood gem located in the heart of the Main Street District in Columbia. One of the best wine lists in the region! Excellent for anything from business lunches to elegant birthday dinners. Love this place!
We were expecting a quiet dinner for our 30th wedding anniversary, even asked to be seated in a more secluded area. We were seated by a very loud, large group, so loud we couldn’t hear each other across the table.
We really enjoyed our meal! We went on a Monday around lunch time and it was busy, I'm glad we had made reservations but I was disappointed with how loud it was inside.
We made a reservation very close to afternoon closing time. The service was terrific and the food was was delicious. We were very pleased.
We dined At Hampton Street Vineyard to celebrate a graduation and Navy commissioning. I’m so happy we did! Not only was the food outstanding, but the staff made us feel like part of the family with their cheers and well-wishes and sincere kindness! They made a special night even more memorable—kudos!!!
The wine list is very nice, but mostly domestic wines...i.e. California. Food was presented well and tasted great. Definitely a keeper.
Love HSV and had a great evening there! The food is outstanding and not pretentious. Creative mixes of flavors that maintain their own integrity and yet meld together perfectly. We are not well-versed in wine but love their house selections and recommendations. The peach cobbler ("cobbler" really does it an injustice) is to die for. Will be back soon.
This was an ordinary type of restaurant. There were mainly business people there for lunch. The location is under street level. It gives a dark appearance. The food is good. We had to ask for lemon every time our glasses were filled with iced tea, because only a very thin half slice of lemon was brought each time. The atmosphere was cold.
Always delicious well prepared food. Hubby and I had the Diver Scallops over rice with a crawfish etouffee on top. Very good.
Came for an anniversary and the food was outstanding. Disappointed by the noise level and with our table for two which was sandwiched between two larger tables. The wait staff could barely fit between the tables they were so close... and while we could hear the surrounding conversations perfectly we could not hear each other. We will be back because our meal was excellent, but not for a date night and not before 8:30 pm. But overall great value for the menu and worth another try.
We enjoyed our experience. We showed up early but they were ready for us anyway. That was really nice. Our server was Steve and what we think was the owner, we just assumed, was a super lady. She was very friendly and proud of her restaurant as she should be.
Lovely cocktail to start at the bar and then a great dinner at the table. Wine list was great and specials were fantastic. Super night!!!
We really enjoyed our visit to Hampton Street vineyard. Food was outstanding, definitely get the duck!!! My wife can't stop talking about how cute and whimsical the decor is. Can't wait to go back again!!
Wonderful wine list, outstanding meal quality. Altogether one of my favorite meals in the last year or so. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is quite noisy. Every surface is solid, brick wall, hardwood floors, etc. When you fill it with people it just gets distractingly noisy. Some sound baffles, or even table cloths would do wonders. The food, though, is amazing and it's the best wine list I've seen in Columbia. We'll definitely be back.
The menu is always imaginative and the food is outstanding. I love their lamb and fish. Atmosphere is sophisticated and upscale, with a beautiful bar and exceptional cocktails. Hard to imagine this was once a Sandy's Hot Dogs.
Soft shell crab was wonderful. Bottles of wine were an excellent value. Very low markup. It was full by 8:00 and very loud so hard to have conversations without careful listening. I’m glad the restaurant is still doing well after so many years.
Husband and I had a fantastic meal while visiting Columbia during the Masters. Highly recommend Hampton Street Vineyard. They were also incredibly accommodating to my gluten allergy!
Overpriced for the quality, very loud and very small chairs and we are not big people. Fun bar!
Always a treat for a girls lunch!!
Hampton Street Vineyard offered a fun high end menu along with great attention to detail. The lamb was properly cooked and had was seasoned perfectly. The setting of the restaurant slightly below the street give the ambiance of a french cafe. Live music was performed on the sidewalk, which was a great way to enjoy an after dinner drink. The bar and wine list are very extensive, but very reasonable for the high quality. A great place for celebrating, fo a date, or for business.
