Hammocks Trading Company
Nice quiet lunch
The staff has always been gracious with our dining experience. We are excited to hear of the restaurant group's new opening and am looking forward to enjoying a meal there
Outstanding food and service!!
Food was just awful. We had been here several times in the past year and knew it wasn’t fabulous but it was never as bad as this time. Calamari had absolutely no flavor and the seafood gumbo was greasy! Fried shrimp and scallop basket had zero flavor for $18!! The bay scallops were so tiny they looked like crumbs of batter. If our bill had been 50 percent less, it still would not have been a good value. I was planning to tell the Manager or the server but no one asked if we liked our meal. We will not go back!
I really wanted to love Hammocks. A long-time fan of classic seafood shacks on the coast, I was attracted to the place and the menu looked great. My first visit was a busy Saturday night, and then service was really slow and frankly inattentive. It was a very busy night and the food was good, so I decided to look to come back on a weeknight to give them another chance.
Tonight was that night... and far, far worse.
We immediately noticed (though early in the evening) a number of uncleared tables and other diners obviously waiting a long time for their service. It started off a repeat of our first visit, with a ~20 minute wait to place our orders. Ready to keep things rolling this time, we ordered appetizers & entrees as soon as our server approached. The crab dip appetizer came out fine and was very good, so I felt good about what was to come. We finished the appetizer... and again noticed we had disappearing server. After another 20 minutes the manager came by and mentioned our entrees were late due to a large party. Then another 15 minutes (no server that whole time) our entrees finally arrived - dropped off by a different server.
I had a special coastal fish (a grunt) and my wife a pink snapper. Her fish was fine, but my fish filet was tiny (only about 2"x3") and extremely dry - even curled up on the edges. My dish of green beans was 90% broth, and my fries were cold. When I shared that with my server she went off to "tell the chef" but did not say what was being done. About another 10 minutes went by and she stopped by to say an extra filet was being prepared. By that time my wife was done with her meal, and as I couldn't make her wait longer I told the server to bring our check.
Finally, the manager stopped. She said she was never told of our issues. She offered to "take care of us". My check arrived, and it removed only the charge for the fish (the uneaten side items were not addressed). As I said I really wanted to love Hammocks... but won't be back.
Food was good but service was painfully slow.
This was the 2nd time we've eaten here within the past 3 months. I'm not sure what is wrong with the service but we waited over 10 min for someone to even great us at the table. It wasn't Super busy either. After we finally got someone to greet us and start waiting on us, everything was great. Food is always great!!
This actually is one of our favorite restaurants. They were overwhelmed today, and we had to wait for everything from our water to our food. The manager came out a couple of times, and it was really a disaster. The fish that I usually get that’s delicious, was flat had no flavor and really was not good. I will chalk it up to one bad night, and try one more time because as I said, we go to this restaurant often and the food is amazing.
Food was good, but the kitchen was having major issues. Waited about an hour for our entrees. Waitress was kind, but the kitchen wasn’t helping her out that night.
Love the casual, coastal, “beachy” vibe at Hammocks... Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious, and our server was friendly and attentive. The Creamy Crab & Artichoke Dip With toast points and Chef William’s Chocolate Cake we’re both TDF. A great spot to meet friends and enjoy outstanding cuisine.
I was a little worried when we planned a dinner here because some of the reviews weren't so great. We had a wonderful experience though! They accommodated our large party (11 people) and everyone we came in contact with was wonderful. The food was so good and the watermelon Mojito was amazing.
My friend and I share a birthday!! We all ordered the parchment salmon. Delish!!! We were bad and had Birthday desserts!! A fun evening!!
Ordered the Redfish which I tried before. The fish was dark brown (almost black) inside. The waiter said the fish was raw inside. Mgr/owner came over and took it away and I ordered something A very bad experience.
If I were the owner I would have made amends by saying
Something like I am sorry pls pick out a couple of desserts and coffee. That would have been a good business decision on his part. He did not. With the poor reviews I saw after our disaster we will not return....ever
Have eaten there twice before and loved it. This time however two of us ordered the American Red Snapper grilled @ $29 pp one was sent back and the other only 1/2 eaten. The webbing was left on the back so the fish was totally curled and you could not eat most of it. Did give me Salmon in its place and it was tasty but seriously salty. I'll come back in hopes it was just a bad day in the kitchen. It was super loud too.
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great but the noise level will keep me away from going back unfortunately.
Just know that you may not have your drinks to you fast nor your water glass filled up when you drink all of it. There were several tables left as though 8 of the parties had just left yet, they were never cleaned during our 45 mins dinner.
** Overall - good fish and food, not such a great value, actually a little "high priced" for the venue and offerings. For example, for two people entres and salad softdrinks and one desert was $85 pre tip.
** Good - Fish was fresh and satisfactory, you get the fish without camouflage of sauces and garnish
** Not so Good - skip the seafood gumbo, it is a dark red/brown rue (think chili) not a "mud" brown rue as most prefer, WAY TOO SPICY with taste of Worcestershire sauce that overpowered the actual seafood in the gumbo. On a personal note - my stomach battled that gumbo for about 24 hours.
** Very Good - server and service in general was very good
Excellent except too noisy and uncomfortably cold. Cold enough to make experience uncomfortable
Convenient place to get to except during rush hour [it seems every hour is rush hour in the Atlanta area].
Food was ok , atmosphere and service were great I would go back for appetizers not so much for main course.
Wonderful except for the noise level.
Love this place...One of our go-to restaurants in Dunwoody/Sandy Springs. Service was off tonight, but have been there dozens of times and everyone can have a bad night. Will still go back for the gumbo, if nothing else.
We had a lovely birthday lunch, our waitress was great... food was awesome.. all in all a great experience
We were seated immediately upon our arrival and greeted by our waitress. Our meals were excellent and hot. The food and service were excellent.
We hadn't been here for a few months and realize we need to come back sooner in the future.
Very basic food that is overpriced
We have frequented Hammocks over the last several years and have always enjoyed good food and good service until the last two visits.
We had a less than desirable experience several weeks ago. The service was increably slow taking more than 45 minutes from the time the orders were put into the kitchen till the food arrived at the table. When the food did come it was unevenly heated parts of a fish filet being cold and other parts of the same filet being hot. This was true for 3 of the four dishes served.
We chalked this up to a bad night for them and decided given our past experience we would give them another try. Our last visit was Fathers Day we experienced the same extended time between the food orders going into the kitchen and the food delivered to the table. We also experienced the same uneven temperature in our entrees. The waiter was doing what he could but the food quality and kitchen issues am afraid have convinced us that we have better options than to return again.
DE, Sandy Springs
Terrific array of seafood to select from, one of the best in the city in terms of types of seafood available. Prices were ok. I had Corvina and thought the piece was a little small, but it was very good. Saw another person get salmon papillotte, which wasn't offered by the server. That's my favorite way to prepare fish, so would have ordered it if it was mentioned! Pretty loud. Was there on Father's Day, so was VERY busy, too loud for a romantic evening, but the food seemed well prepared. I'll be going back.
We waited very long to place any order for drinks or food and even longer to receive it. It was not crowded so no good reason for it to take so long. Our service was TERRIBLE - 2 hours to eat a simple meal is unacceptable, especially with young children.
The food and atmosphere were great and it's definitely somewhere I would bring friends back to for a good casual dinner. Honestly the best part of the whole experience was our server, Shannon. She was hilarious and so great to hang out with. She was totally in the weeds that night but really just crushed it and went above and beyond to provide excellent service. Will definitely be back.
Thank you. It was wonderful! ❤️
A friend recommended Hammocks Trading Company. He and his wife love it. Came here with my family. We started with the calamari and jerk wings. I had the shrimp poboy and the gumbo. I thought all were okay, not great. Son had the grilled grouper sandwich and like it.
We love Hammocks!
Well we’ve been going to Hammocks for several years and this was honestly the first time I’ve been disappointed. Usually their food and service is great, but on this Friday night we placed our order and enjoyed our drinks while we waited and talked about our week. One of the partners came out and was apologetic, told me their bacon wrapped meatloaf was going to be awhile and that I might want to choose something else. Not a big deal, these things happen. I ordered the snapper sautéd, he asked what two sides... I said cheese grits (I love them) and just a side salad for the other. (So far so good). The fish was over cooked and tasted like it was doused in salt. (First time this has happened, so I ate it anyway) When the check came I found that the charged an extra $3.50 for the salad? The meal comes with two sides, and the salad was to be one of them (and it was definitely a small side salad). When I asked the waitress she abruptly said, “there’s an up charge for a side salad”. When I said this was in leu of one of the sides, she stood her ground and insisted. My perplexed look and frustrations certainly came out... Let me get this straight, you made me change my order ten minutes after placing it, when I asked for a side salad instead of a second side item, there was no mention of an up charge. And sense when is there a $3.5 up charge for lettuce (after not taking another side item)??? The waitress quickly turned and left, a few minutes later we received an adjusted check, she removed the cost of the salad. Though this experience dampened an otherwise nice evening with my bride, I still tipped her 20% and thanked her. We truly hope this is a one time experience as we really loved Hammocks!
Open on Sunday evenings
Oysters were excellent as was the Salmon in parchment.
Don’t be fooled by the unassuming exterior, this place has some seriously good eats. Chef William really knows his stuff.. The salmon en papilloma is spectacular and a tremendous value. The BBQed oysters were plump, tender and perfectly seasoned. Even the sides and salads (go with the HTC) are creative and scrumptious. Even the wine list has improved of late. And please, save room for dessert. The real southern strawberry shortcake on freshly baked sweet biscuits with basil infused strawberries and tons of real whipped cream is not to be missed. O e will easily serve two diners.
My wife and I had lunch on Thursday with friends at Hammock and it was awesome. We all love to vacation on 30A and this was like a short trip to Rosemary Beach. Oysters were fantastic both raw and fried. I had the gumbo and loved it. Service was great. Everyone was super friendly. We’ll definitely go back. And soon.
We have become regulars, and we’re never disappointed. Great job HTC! Keep up the great work
Good seafood and relaxed environment but be careful with the cocktail orders. I ordered a bourbon on the rocks and was charged an extra $1.50 for the rocks. And by rocks I mean a bunch of regular ice cubes, was very disappointing
My favorite place for cooked oysters. My friends had steak and chicken and they love it.
Food was great as usual, atmosphere fun, waitress was great! We only wished she had reminded us of crab specials! Menu was on the table, but small and we were busy catching up and didn't see it. Great experience, as usual!
