Hamiltons of Stockbridge is a multi award winning, relaxed environment where the carefully sourced menu changes with the seasons and drinks are a well-chosen blend of beautiful wines and modern standards with a subtle twist. Hamiltons maintains a comprehensive selection of beers spanning all the local favourites as well as an carefully selected cocktail menu including unique creations such as the Rum and Raisin milk punch. The food menu is an ever-changing experience that includes popular items. Hamiltons can be found at 16-18 Hamilton Place, near to The Water of Leith and Edinburghs New Town, a short walk from Jubilee Garden and around 10 minutes by bus to the Royal Botanical Gardens. Hamiltons was created with locals in mind, but welcomes everyone and prides itself on its friendly staff and warm atmosphere. We are also a dog friendly venue with the exception of the raised restaurant area. We also welcome U18's until 8pm.

    This was always a lovely place for brunch but this weekend the service was terrible and has put us off returning. We waited for absolutely ages to be served, with no drinks offered either, the waitress served a table that came in 15 minutes after us first. After being in the restaurant for nearly 25 minutes, we had to go to the bar to ask for someone to come take our order. When she eventually took our order she didn’t write any of it down so 3 drinks didn’t arrive and my son’s breakfast order was wrong. There was no kids menu so my 8 year old daughter who wanted a small cooked breakfast (£15 for the adult one) was advised to get eggs on toast and order extra breakfast items on the side. We asked for a sausage, a bit of bacon and a potato scone. We received a massive amount for her - two of everything. They then charged us £15 for it!!

    Visited on a Tuesday night. In eating area only 3 tables were occupied. Bar area busier. Service was quick. Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable on food and drinks. Had battered fish and chips. Portion was a good size. Tasty but slightly greasy. Enjoyed wine and then cocktails. Would certainly go back.

    Typical pub. My major complaint was the main dish which was supposed to be a Pasta Puttanesca. Normally this is made with tomato sauce, capers, anchovies, and black olives, with a ton of parmesan cheese. My dismal meal was made with watery tomato sauce out of a tin with green olives, and that was it. In the absence of parmesan, they had run out, the idiot in the kitchen had put three thick slices of mozzarella on the pasta as a substitute. What is extraordinary, is the waiter thought this was all right!!! This goes down in history as the worse plate of pasta I have ever eaten, and I spent over 20 years living in Italy. Great pub. Just don't eat there.

    The worst food I have had in Edinburgh, period. For £30 per head there are a plethora of other excellent, easy eats in Stockbridge and I highly recommend that you look elsewhere. The menu is extremely limited, which is fine if you can deliver, but thoroughly uninspiring when your options are fish and chips that was as soggy as the sea that inspired it, or a pasta dish was surely reheated from the microwave having been made a couple of days prior. The burger, which was my choice, was three times the price of a Mcdonalds equivalent and three times as bad: I may as well have been eating the cows’ hide, not it’s meat. We came here over a year ago and weren’t overly impressed, but we’re hoping that it had improved. Incorrect. The spider sense should have started tingling when we came in to an entirely empty establishment, less a few people at the bar. We were with company and therefore didn’t want to make a fuss, so we just paid and left. Don’t go here: take your money elsewhere. Hopefully new management will take over.

    Agapting to GF meant the. Hummus and. Chickpeas were tiny. As I was hungry I. then had pavlova which was mass produced meringue. It wasn’t cheap so I’m no sure I will go back.

    Delicious food nicely presented. The waiters were friendly and helpful. The only thing that I would have changed was the harsh lighting - the ambience would have been more relaxing if it was a bit dimmer for an evening meal. Hamiltons was great value I would highly recommend and will be back but probably during the day.

    The service was horrible! We were a party of 6 and it took forever to get our food and then when it arrived they only served 2 at a time. One of us didn’t get food until after everyone else had finished there meals! To make matters worse, they served another table the last dish for which we were waiting! When we point d this out to the server, she rolled her eyes and asked for patience. They did end up not charging for the 1 meal, but dinner was a bust!

    We made a booking in advance for 10 people at 2pm on a Sunday during the Fringe Festival. They called at 1.55pm to let us know they couldn't take the booking because they don't have enough staff in the kitchen. The front of house couldn't really care less and we were left stranded.

    Really disappointed to have booked a table today for brunch to leave without. On arrival we were shown to our table & having sat for between 5 & 10 minutes with no offer of drinks or menus, we asked if there was a problem to be told that the chef had only just arrived & that it would be at least an hour before food was ready. Now while I appreciate this was not ideal for either party, the fact that this information wasn’t shared upfront, there was no offer of a drink while we waited & none of the staff seemed in the slightest bit interested is thoroughly disappointing. Having frequented Hamiltons on numerous occasions I will seriously be reconsidering whether we return.

    Menu has very few options for lunch. Ordered chicken burger, bun was dry and crumbling, chips were undercooked. Food not competitive for the price point in my view. Nice environment, atmosphere and staff though. A safe bet for drinks.

    Hamiltons is well placed and nicely decorated. Bearing in mind we are a bunch of oldies - age 75+ we found the noise levels very difficult. Our bacon rolls were disappointing, the rolls themselves too dry - no butter, and staff not around to ask for some. Coffee lukewarm. Should have complained but we were tight for time as going to see a show. When interacting with staff they were all pleasant and courteous.

    Really disappointed with my booking. I wanted to book brunch to take my daughter to, prior to her first performance at the Fringe. We could just have walked in somewhere in Stockbridge but as we were meeting friends I wanted to ensure we had a table. The website listed times for the various menus, the menus themselves and a direct link to book a table with Open Table. I successfully booked 1100. When my husband and friends arrived the place was closed. They thought the were at the wrong place. I called Hamiltons and was told they did not open until 1200. I had to then get my daughter a takeaway roll from Greggs and we met my husband in the pub. The table had been moved to 1200 so after a quick drink in the pub we walked along. The place was quiet but we were not greeted as we entered and had to wait for someone to arrive. The menu issued was the “all-day” and when I asked for the brunch menu I was told it was only on at the weekends. Unfortunately by now I was pretty fed up. My daughter had to leave before we order. The food was nice but expensive for what came. I ended up having a homemade sausage roll - £8.

    We had a voucher for two courses and a glass of champagne. The food was rather good, and overall I'd say the voucher was excellent value. However, a few relatively minor irritations combined to make it a less pleasurable experience than it could have been. I had the fish and chips, and the haddock was excellent but the batter was mushy and insufficiently well cooked in places. The service was a little slow, and got worse as the place got busier, particularly when a large party appeared. We ordered cocktails and my bottled martini was okay but my wife's margarita lacked any discernible alcohol. I'm guessing it was pre-mixed and maybe the source bottle required a shake. Finally, Hamilton's are obviously not subscribers to the view that the glass is important when you're drinking wine, as the glasses for our champagne were cheap and clumsy. All in all, none of these were important on their own, but together they left us less likely to return.

    Have not visited Hamilton’s for a couple of years.so glad we came back ,food was superb, not a huge choice on menu but there was enough to keep us happy lovely burger and flat iron steak. Our servers were great,drinks and food reasonably priced what’s not to like!! Returning next month and looking forward to it.

    What’s happened to Hamilton? From being the place to go there were very few people in at a time when it should have been full. I ordered 2 poached eggs on sourdough . The eggs were Bantam size and I could have soled my shoes with the sourdough bread, I couldn’t even cut it with my knife. I have to wonder if word has got out which perhaps explains the lack of customers in a sunny Sunday morning, we will not be back any time soon.

    I ordered fish and chips. The chips were wedge style skin on and very tasty but I would prefer a more crisper chip. The fish tasted lovely but the batter was soft and heavy, not for me, I like crispy batter. My wife had the only vegetarian option which was pasta. This was a very uninspiring dish thrown together and so well over priced for what you got

    Meant to try Hamiltons for a long time, so pleased to use itison to try it out . Lovely place , staff welcoming and attentive. Food enjoyed.Large portions. Probably didn’t need the starter, although that was delicious- home made sausage roll and brown sauce. Music a bit loud for easy conversation but staff happy to lower the volume, as we were sitting beneath a wall mounted speaker. Only issue for us was a very loud couple who sat beside us. Fortunately we were almost finished our meal, so didn’t have to put up with them for long. Will certainly return.

    Nice little pub/restaurant within walking distance of our Airbnb in Stockbridge. Not a vast menu but a good choice of options. Quite noisy so not one if you want a quiet romantic meal but good for family meals and catch ups with friends.

    Clearly understaffed on a busy Sunday brunch service. Felt very sorry for the staff trying their best. Place was full and we waited 25 on two drinks and over 50 minutes on an order of full breakfast and one bacon roll. Roll was stale and bacon undercooked!! Such a shame as it’s such a nice venue in a great spot!
