Hamiltons' At First & Main
We went there for lunch visiting family from around the country. Everyone was very satisfied with there meals. The fried oyster salad was tremendous and so was the crab cakes.
The smoked tomatoes put my shrimp and grits on the next level. Nicely done.
The problem was that we were in the restaurant for about 65 minutes before our meal was delivered. We had a 6:30 pm reservation and an 8:00 pm time for a show at the Paramont Theater. We really had to rush to finish out meal so that we could make the theater on time. On the other hand, our sever was great.
We would return. Amy, I think, was our server and she was excellent. Crab cake and shrimp and grits were very good. My son loved his Cuban sammie. Everything was god! Positive first experience
Lunch in the garden was lovely. Food delicious and service pleasant. It was not my first and not the last time at Hamilton's.
A perfect spot for a reunion of old friends! Great food, wonderful service, and the perfect atmosphere where we could catch up.
GREAT FOOD! And service too! We sat outside and enjoyed pork chops, shrimp, scallops and all dishes has delicious sides!! Wine and beer were very good!! Loved it here.
Yes but way too loud. Would probably not be back for that reason
Always excellent. Love the crab cakes which are of the regional type. Lots of crab, very little filler. Get the rum cocktail made from rum stuck in the corner with vanilla beans and then brought out to make this delicious beverage.
The food and the servers at Hamilton's is always GREAT.
Love the place.
We went for brunch and we all LOVED our food. It was a great choice!
Excellent food and service. Staff very accommodating and answered all questions. Food all fresh and love that the menu changes with availability.
The food and the service at Hamilton's never disappoint! Our dinner on 3/30/19 was no exception. The food was outstanding, and the presentation was perfect. The calamari appetizer is not to be missed, and the Arctic char and the crab cakes were top notch. We loved the bananas Foster crème brulée, too. The server was professional, polite, and unobtrusive. She did an excellent job of pacing the service to our wishes for a slow, relaxing evening. We have enjoyed several lunches as well as dinner here before, and Hamilton's is an excellent choice for lunch or for a special occasion dinner. It is pricey for dinner, but we thoroughly enjoyed it.
My meal at Hamiltons' was just about perfect! It was a lovely spring day so I sat outside. My server was excellent. I wish I knew her name to directly compliment her, but I do know that she had previously worked in fashion in NY and also designs wedding gowns. She was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. Though I had been thinking a bloody Mary, I went with the Albemarle Fizz and it was fabulous...a perfect lunch time cocktail and not too sweet, just to my liking. Next came the hot homemade bread and soft butter. I had to hold myself back from eating the whole thing, knowing I still had my lunch to come. But it was delicious. And finally, my entree, the highly recommended shrimp and grits, which were superb...perfecty cooked, deliciously flavored and finished off with a remarkable tomato confit. I have had this dish before but never anywhere close to this perfection! The only less than perfect portion of my meal were the pimento hush puppies. For my taste, they didn't have enough pimento to pick up the taste and were in the fryer a bit too long. But with everything and everyone else being such a delight, I just quickly moved right by those. I will definitely return whenever I am in Charlottesville and will highly recommend this wonderful establishment to others. Thank you!
Always a nice spot to meet someone here for lunch! Staff is very courteous and eager to make the experience a lovely one.
As usual very good, and I think the best lunch value in town. They were VERY busy and as a result my food had clearly been sitting for some time , however it was tasty and the service was excellent as usual. This is my go-to suggestion for friends and family coming to cville for a nice meal.
This restaurant reported that I missed reservation, when, in fact, I was served and left. Were they trying to avoid Open Table fee?
Traveling through Charlottesville- such a great Southern breakfast! Food was great! Service was great! Ambiance great!
Always good here
We had spent about 6 hours on the road and were looking forward to a leisurely dinner (our second) at Hamiltons' in the past year). Although the noise level was a bit off-putting, we were tucked into a quiet corner table and waited on by the loveliest server imaginable. The shrimp imaginative and absolutely delicious. We skipped dessert and left happy!
We had a great dinner and the service was fabulous!!!!
Excellent service, delicious food with interesting combinations, beautiful presentation. We especially enjoyed the kale trout salad. We ordered two entrees to share--one was the vegetarian blue plate and the other the duck--both were excellent and we were so pleased that the kitchen divided and plated them for us. Also the bartender makes an excellent margahrita.
I loved the Shrimp and grits and the lemon tart. Amazing!!
Great food...great service. Snapper fish with sweet pea was unbelievable!
Amazing good and service! Will definitely be back again!
Hubby and I ate here for lunch after reading favorable reviews and were not disappointed. We started with a rum cocktail which was very good, to the point of wanting to duplicate it at home. We had the mushroom soup, fried oyster salad and cubano sandwich. All of it was delicious. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The ambience was charming. We would definitely return again.
Hamilton's remains one of the classiest eateries in town. In our last visit, all was to their usually high standards, except for the featured special pork chop we both ordered. I guess we're spoiled by the quality of locally grown pork, such as the unbeatable meats that Rock Barn produced before they regrettably left the field. But this pork chop was just kind of ordinary--it lacked the thickness, the firm juiciness one used to expect from a Rock Barn chop. Maybe it's harder to source good local pork these days, but I would hesitate to feature a merely adequate cut like this as a weekend special. Nothing that will stop us returning to Hamilton's, but that pork chop was not really up to standard.
Every time I dine at Hamilton’s I have excellent service, friendly staff, and wonderful food. The noise level is such that I can actually hear my friend’s conversation. What a gift to have such a great restaurant in C’vilke!
Thank you for a wonderful experience with my 8 high school girl friends. Everything was wonderful. Our waitress was excellent and Sunday brunch was great.
For a dinner out that we Know will be excellent, we choose Hamiltons. The food is delicious, quiet atmosphere, great service.
This restaurant reminds me of why one wants to go out to eat in the first place. Thoughtful food preparation, lovely presentation, an excellent wine list that is priced fairly, helpful and pleasant service, an elegant design. The only problem was noise level, fairly deafening on a Saturday night.
All was good except for one app (calamari drowned in olives) but the noise level made it impossible for our party of 4 to speak across the table
overall very good quality ... portions were a little small ... menu was limited for lunch
Pretty atmosphere but a bit noisy. Food good, smallish portion and not overly hot. Waiter attentive and helpful. Nice selection, great coffee. Would return for brunch.
Went for Sunday brunch. Had a long wait on food after receiving our drinks and when food arrived it was not even warm. Dined here for dinner several years ago and had a wonderful experience. Don't think I will revisit for brunch.
Service was excellent, the food was good.
Table ready on time. Wait staff attentive and quick. Food was delicious
Great dinner, great server- will definitely dine here again
We’ve both been here multiple times and felt the quality of food was lacking. While the set menu had a good number of options, we weren’t really impressed by the final product. Dessert, especially, was disappointing. The service was wonderful as were the drinks and ambiance. The beef tenderloin was lovely. Most everything else was not the usual standard.
First time at Hamiltons and everything couldn’t have been nicer from the waiter and manager very welcoming to the great food. Both ordered rockfish and couldn’t have been better. It was a great first time and sure there will be others
