The food was incredible. Hats off to the sushi chef. It was a girls night out and the staff and owner of the restaurant couldn't have been more pleasant and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Great service, excellent drinks and food and a fun, upbeat, late-night bar atmosphere (even earlier in the evening.) Lots of younger people but also some families. We had a wonderful time there - everything was delicious. At some point, they brought us an un-asked-for bottle of complimentary sake, a lovely touch.

Sushi rolls good. Cocktails OK. HEAVY ON BITTERS. Staff needs better direction for promotions. They use imitation crab in all sushi rolls. Probably won't be back

We had 2 roles including the Lion King roll and also grilled garlic, ginger shrimp. All the food was exceptionally prepared the flavors bursting on your tongue. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The only down side was both our server and what I believe to be the manager kept stopping by asking if we wanted to order more. Ok, you don't want to be left having to try to track your server down, but we were really pestered. I would highly suggest to go for the food. Maybe consider sitting at the sushi bar.

The food was OK, just. Things that we get as part of the same dinner at Hama in Pleasant Hill had to be ordered separately. The waitress, though very willing to please, did not know her offerings. While there is a small parking lot, it is insufficient to accomodate more than a very few cars; we parked with a meter on the street.Displeased in Walnut Creek

Hamachi is perfectly fine. I was a bit taken aback by the chef's specials ranging from $50-$100 and the $25-$30 8-piece sashimi plates, but ultimately we were able to navigate the menu and find enough "values" for a decent meal that was only a bit more than we'd normally expect to pay for sushi. A few fillers off the happy hour menu didn't hurt.

Service was friendly and they were very accommodating of our 2 year old daughter. We were there early, i get the sense that the lounge/party vibe cranks up a bit later- can't speak to that part of the equation, though the one-man-band synthesizer player was already going, leading to a somewhat odd live music selection.

Overall no complaints, but also wouldn't rush back- I'd go to Sasa first.

The food was really good and came out fast. The restaurant is clean and modern. The service was great, very attentive. Live music is cool, but the guy on the keyboards was WAY too loud! Impossible to carry on a conversation without constantly repeating yourself. If the volume was turned down by 33%, this place would be perfect.

Ended up at Hamachi after a long day of wine tasting for a 30th bday party...sounds like a nightmare group, right?? Our waitress could not have been more accommodating and patient. I woke up the next morning thinking about all of our annoying requests (separate checks, multiple credit cards at check out), etc....and she just smiled and took care of everything.

Wish I could say more about the food -- but I just don't recall. Like I said, wine tasting all day long....

Oh - did I mention we were like 45 minutes late for our reservation? We called to warn them, and they totally accommodated us. Not recommending you do that (because c'mon - not cool), but they knew they were getting annoying group of ladies and they were fantastic!

If you are attending a show at the RCA, just head around the corner to this nice spot. Has its own parking, though most of us don't try to get that close. The food is great and they run happy hour specials late during the week. We loved the food, but the music was a bit loud and distracting. May be trying to attract more of a bar crowd than dining with the music.

We enjoyed an after work dinner with Ngiri, California rolls, Miso soup and streams of smooth sake at happy hour prices and left with a full stomach, and warm feeling. The service was great. The lady who provided service was attentive and pointed out the various delicacies we enjoyed and the pricing specials. We'll definitely return!

Having made the mistake of not noticing that we were going to the theater on Valentine's Day, I made the mistake of waiting to reserve until 4 days prior, and this was the only place in town that still had tables. Service was atrocious, starting with the hostess who said "Your wife is already here" (she's 32 years my senior). Unlike most Japanese restaurants, there are no combo or bento dinners, so it's all small plates. The dishes came in random order, with three of my dishes coming in before one of hers. They actually brought her miso soup last! We had to chase our waitress half-way through dinner to get the glass of wine we ordered in the beginning, and her response was "I don't know why they didn't have it ready!" This place won't last.

I coordinated a surprise birthday dinner for a close friend and had a wonderful experience at Hamachi! The original reservation was for 12 people, however due to traffic conditions, most of the party was late, and some did not show. The restaurant staff was extremely understanding and accomodating to the small group that we had. We started with seaweed salads, which was under $5 on the Happy Hour menu (Happy Hour on Tuesdays is all night - awesome!) and had various special rolls from the menu. I had the King Kong roll, which was amazing! Another girl at our table at sashimi, and noted how fresh the fish was. The manager or supervisor on duty surprised our table with kamikaze shots all around for the birthday girl - so sweet! We'll be back.

It was very cold. The space is large with high ceilings and they could not seem to get the chill out--almost everyone was sitting with their jackets on. Further the Waitress seemed to know very little about fish let alone sushi. Yet when asked if she was new she denied it. The food in the end was good, nothing particularly unique--That said, my two mainstay comparisons are how a restaurant makes a Poke and a seaweed salad, and in both cases they were better than most.

Happy hour was until 7pm on a Sunday including $5 sushi rolls, sashimi, seaweed salad, edaname, and other appetizers, all very good. House cocktails were also $5-6 with a very tasty lychee martini. Four of us ordered sushi off the main menu and the only complaint was that our server had no clue as to what was in any item. He was very friendly and attentive, but not knowledgeable about the menu. The food is very fresh, the ambiance is casual and inviting, and the prices are reasonable. We’ll come back.

This is the first time we've been here, and what a great find! We started at the bar, and the bartender was fantastic. She used the freshest ingredients and top-shelf liquors. When we went to our reserved table, the menus were outstanding and every sushi roll that came out was great. They did a very good job of taking care of us. I've already recommended it to someone else and we WILL be coming back again!

The food was okay. Our waitress was nice. But atmosphere was really weird. There were 2 guys who seemed out of place, standing around the middle of the restaurant. Were they waiters? Security? The place was not busy at all, so the extra staff seemed odd. The food took a long time, as did our drinks. Our waitress was nice and I don't blame her for the things she can't control, such as: two giant TV screens playing different football games - loudly, background music that seemed more appropriate for a nightclub. And the two guys who looked like weightlifters. On top of that, the restaurant was very cold. The food was good, but not good enough to overcome the other issues. Especially the cold temperature in the room.

If you are a Japanese restaurant that serves Tempura you really ought to change your oil. Perhaps we went at the wrong time---lunch. We were the only ones there. Maybe they step it up at Happy Hour. The only thing that I can really recommend is the Miso Soup, which was gratis. I had a tempura roll and the shrimp was not cooked. My husband had the Tempura onion rings and it was old oil time... The chicken dishes were good but they're all about "decorative" saucing, which is pretty but does not allow you to have as much sauce as you would like, or NOT like. The Vietnamese spring rolls were weirder than anything that I've ever eaten, it didn't taste like a "food" product. I'm sure that they have some great dishes, we really weren't very lucky.

Too to bottom, hostess was bad and refused to get us another table farther away from the front door and cold air that was coming in. Bus boy greeted us after 10 minutes. After over 15 minutes still no waiter came to is to ask us for a drink. We were starving and it was a rare date night away from the kids. At about 20 minutes we stood up and walked next door to Eleve). The inside of hamachi is sad. It looked like a strip mall place trying to be a little bit sports bar and a little hip and a little traditional and it does not carry either one. Really weird vibe and I wouldn't even bother going back for another try since the service and ambiance was so poor, even pretty good sushi wouldn't have saved our dinner.

Food was typical and service was extremely slow. We had a table full of empty dishes and waiter still had to ask if it was okay to remove when it was so obvious we need more room. The sake that dimes with their fixed sashimi dishes is misleading. Not a small same but rather one little kiddie size cup suitable for a toddler.

The food at Hamachi was good - nothing was a standout, but everything was tasty. They had a Saturday Happy Hour menu so there were a number of bargain small plates and sushi. Unfortunately, the service at the restaurant was so poor that we probably wouldn't go back. Most of their servers seemed very young and inexperienced. Our server wasn't taking notes - or if she was she was writing everything down incorrectly because we were getting the wrong things - she just didn't seem to be listening very well. She also was very young (18... apparently). Why is an 18 year old serving at any restaurant -for that matter - how is she allowed to serve booze?? The pacing of food delivery was also way too fast - we were done with our dinner in 30 min

Our family dines out quite often and really loves sushi. We go to Amakara in Dublin all the time because it is so amazing. I read about Hamachi and the Yelp review was a 4 out of 5. I don't know how this is possible. The place was over half empty @7:00 Saturday evening, the sushi was mediocre with small portions. Service was unprofessional ( I grew up in the restaurant business and really appreciate good service) We will not be going back, which really disappoints me because we need a great sushi restaurant in Walnut Creek.
