Halyards on St. Simons has been redefining Island Cuisine for 16 popular years. The Island's unrivaled see-and-be-seen dinner spot for locals who know and for coastal visitors who've heard that the Seared Tuna with a Plum Wine Reduction and the N.Y. Strip with Soy Lime Butter will make your evening. Don't skip the Blue Crab Bisque or the nightly specials including an array of small plates. Every night has happy hour at the 20 seat bar that is full service and first come first served. The atmosphere is casually elegant(cozy lounge furniture in the courtyard and under the awning), the welcome warm, the service crisp and attentive, the wine cellar vast, and the comfortable bar hip and hopping. The menu is the brilliant handiwork of Chef/Owner Dave Snyder that changes seasonally and is bold, creative and gloriously rewarding. To be sure you're pleased, Dave roams the front of the house for comments when he's not out fishing for your dinner.

Halyards Ratings and Reviews
Everything worked well. The waiter was attentive, informative and friendly. The menu was excellent with a really good selection that would suit most tastes.
The food was very good, served hot ~ one of the things we find difficult to understand is that many restaurants serve food that is tepid, luke warm and has obviously been waiting for other dishes to be prepared before being served!
A good choice of wine either by the glass or bottle, prices reasonable.
We were not rushed nor were we left waiting.
Very nice evening and will certainly be returning.
Food is creative yet simple. It’s fresh perfectly seasoned and delicious. The fish is incredible. Cooked to perfection accompanied with shaved Brussel Sprouts and Parmesan with a nut I can’t place. Service was attentive not rushed.
Menu is incredible. I eat here multiple times every time I visit. Great job George and Dave et. al.
I gave Halyards one star after rating all categories high. The reason for this was an interaction we had with the General Manager of the restaurant. Our party of three arrived for Halyard's happy hour, advertised from five until six pm. We ordered a drink at the bar at the happy hour prices. The bartender, Ricky, was outstanding. Great mixologist and conversationalist. We were seated in the dining room at 5:30 pm. We had a great waiter named Al. He asked if we would like another round of drinks. He stated that we could still get happy hour prices at the bar. I ordered at the bar and the bartender proceeded to fill our order. At this point, the general manager intervened and angrily stated that happy hour prices were for the bar only. This was contrary to what our waiter had told us. The general manager then proceeded to dress down the waiter and bartender in front of me and the guests at the bar. I told the manager that I would be happy to pay full price but he continued to embarrass me, the waiter and the bartender. Where I come from, happy hour pricing extends to the restaurant in general. Those that don't extend that offer clearly state that happy hour pricing only applies in the bar area. Halyards has no such policy stated anywhere. The waiter and bartender apparently didn't know the supposed policy either. I consider the general manager's handling of this situation as being unprofessional and uncalled for. A correct approach would be to speak to the staff privately and not berate them in public. He also made me feel as if I were trying to 'cheat' the establishment. I hope the owner, Mr. Dave S. reads this and has a discussion with his manager. Other than this bad experience, the food was excellent as was the service. I tipped the waiter 30% as I felt badly he had to endure that kind of treatment from a manager. Minimally, the establishment needs to define what their 'happy hour' rules mean. Our 'happy hour' wasn't all that 'happy'.
I asked for a quiet table and was given a booth in the corner. Our server was prompt to appear at our table and provide great cheerful service. Best Caesar salad I’ve had in a while (though they did charge $2 extra for several anchovies). Filet was tender, juicy, and cooked just right. This is certainly one of the premier restaurants on St Simons.
We have lived Halyards since we first came to St Simon. Varanasi was great, just slightly overcooked but great. The salads were fresh and delicious. We had the beet salad and another mixed lettuce blend with apples and candied nuts. For dinner, we has small plates, the mussels and the scallops. Really just yummy
I was recommended this restaurant by a couple of people, so planned a birthday dinner for a girls’ trip to SSI. The food was fair ( except for the escargot appetizer) and the service was terrible! The waitress was very nice, but extremely slow and kept putting us off to place an order for the kitchen, wait on someone else etc. She kept stopping by to apologize for the wait, then would leave again. It seemed as though we didn’t matter. I told the people who suggested this restaurant how unpleasant our experience was and they were surprised.
My husband have dined here annually for the last several summers, as I have an annual legal meeting at the King & Prince during that time. This time we came back to the island for a family get away weekend with our daughters, one of whom will shortly be launching her legal career with the Army's Judge Advocate General ("JAG") Corps. The dinner was wonderful, as expected. Thanks Halyards!
