Hal's - Buckhead Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I, travel quite often and have been to several restaurants from California to Georgia. Although the food tasting was good it was way over priced where as I can get the same quality of food and Longhorn. I know and understand a high-end restaurant quality but for the price of my bone in ribeye and the ounce size I could have went to Longhorn maybe that's something you guys should look at thank you.
Awful service. We had a reservation for 5 and we when got to the table, there were only 4 chairs and 4 place settings. We had to ask more than 3 separate times for silverware. When we finally got our meal, 4 of the 5 steaks came out together and the final steak took an additional 5 minutes. Finally, one of the steaks was extremely rare - still moo-ing. I love Hal’ but this was not a good experience
My bf has never been to Hal's so I decided to take him for date night. Unfortunately, our server was not attentive and took his time with everything. I literally watched him as he watched a football game as we waited for oh check. I've been to Hal's many times but this is, by far, the worst experiences I've had.
Not sure what was going on but service was especially slow after waiting 45 minutes past our reservation time. All 3 fillets and the lobster special were over cooked. Waiter made no effort to address it other than bringing us 2 desserts that we didn't ask or care for. Extremely disappointed in what is usually a very good experience.
Although the food and service was good, I had to rate them one star because of the SMOKING! Who knew that there were restaurants “grandfathered in” who still allowed it. I think every smoker in Atlanta was in the bar and the smell and smoke wafted throughout the restaurant. It was also very noisy which we expected but that and the smoke made it an unpleasant evening.
I ordered my whiskey neat, but it came with ice. Turned it back and they just drained the drink and brought it back with water. I ordered another $63 shot to have it the way I wanted. Steaks needed more salt and was not as tender as I expected it would be from the acclaimed steakhouse. I recommend grass fed organic or at the very least better marbled cuts.
Great food, as always, and expertly prepared. Why the greeter would place us next to another table with guests in, basically, an empty dining room leaves me wondering. There were two couples at our table, and we requested separate checks for each couple. The waiter said no problem. I, for the life of me, cannot understand why that simple request could not be honored. Halfway through the meal, our waiter changed to someone else, leaving me wondering again... Been there before with no issues with the staff. Lighting so subdued you couldn’t read the menu without the flashlight on your cellphone .
My husband had been threatening to take me to Hal's for years, and we finally went. It is a combination old school steak house and middle aged pick up joint, and is nothing if not anachronistic. I felt like I had been transported back to 1982. A piano player in stuffed into a corner played Kool and the Gang. We sat at the bar for a little while after arriving. It was packed. Bit of trouble with the wine list , which is very, very overpriced. Very few bottles under $100, and none you'd order. First, the wrong bottle came out, and it turned out two wines had the same number. Then, they didn't have the correct one, so we had to order something more expensive. All this took a while. We then took our bottle to the table, where our server asked "where did that come from?" The bar, I said. Nevertheless he said "we don't allow outside wine" and proceeded to pick up the bottle (which had been opened at the bar) to inspect it, and spilled it on me. Fortunately, things improved markedly from there. We started with an appetizer special, flash fried lobster with a very tasty sauce. It was quite good. A tomato and onion salad was ordinary, but fresh. I ordered grilled salmon as the main course. I was told it came with creamed spinach, but got steamed spinach instead. My husband ordered the osso buco, which was served with angel hair pasta and marinara. The salmon was well prepared, medium as I ordered, and was very good. The osso buco was very good, tender and tasty. I don't really get the angel hair pasta with such a hearty piece of meat, and the pasta was a bit overcooked. Roasted asparagus was done very nicely. I'm glad I went to Hal's, for the spectacle as much as anything. I have to say that I was surprised that the food at Hal's was so good. If it wasn't for the grossly overpriced wine list, I would probably go again.
Hal's came on a recommendation from a friend and the steak was amazing! Every now and then, steakhouses will "overcook" a steak (I'm a medium rare guy) but this was cooked as close to perfect as you can get. I had the filet medallions and it was outstanding. The only issue I had was with the ambience. My wife and I were upstairs and it was really noisy. But other than that, it was a great meal
This place came highly recommended from a friend who has a child who lives in area. Whenever we visit a new town, we prefer local steak houses rather than a chain and this was a bit of a disappointment for us. We didn't feel the bone in ribeye was as good as other steak houses we have visited. Server was very robotic, but good. Bathroom is in the kitchen, which was very odd to me. Overall, fair steakhouse for the price not exceptional.
The food and our server were amazing. The only drawback was the bartender, because we had to send the drink back three times and finally gave up. Just couldn't get our drink right. But it was the best filet I've ever had and some of the best service I've ever received. Definitely recommend.
