Hal's - Buckhead Ratings and Reviews
Best gumbo I've ever had by far and the best steak I've ever had! And trust me, it hurts to say that cause Chops in Atlanta, Berns in Tampa and the Chophouse in Chicago were my favorites until now. I had the NY Strip Oscar style but couldn't put the bearnaise sauce on it cuz it didn't need it. Absolutely amazing experience. And the cherry on top is the ability to smoke a stogie at the bar. The ventilation was excellent!
Overall was a good experience. Food was excellent, service was decent, prices were fair given the type place/menu....it is pretty loud downstairs so just heads up if you're expecting a quiet dinner, I knew this going in and mainly went for the experience and food. Would definitely go back, one of my favorite places now.
What a special Valentine’s Day dinner! The service is wonderful, the food Devine. We enjoyed chargrilled oysters ,mussels, and steak. The cocktails are nice and strong.
The best part of dining at Hal’s is the timing of the food. Each course is brought out to you with perfect timing. It is a true ding experience.... never rushed!
Always solid. Filet & french cut ribeye are a go to. Appetizers are better than the typical high end steak house, especially grilled oysters. Truffle mac & cheese always good. Creamed spinach is the only thing that is not worth ordering. Overall very hard to beat Hal’s in Buckhead.
Didn't see server after we got food until we were done, so we got the mashed potatoes that never showed up in a to go box. Couldn't hear anything and sat next to some creepy old guy with 3 aspiring trophy wives.
Steak was very good as were the sides, but for a $200 tab I can probably go to a good butcher and cook my own steaks at home where I can hear myself speak.
The steak was Amazing, one of the best that I have had compared to Bones, Capital Grill, or Rathbuns but their sides and table bread were terrible. I had a Caesar salad and truly have had better from the bag. I also had the mashed potatoes and I felt like I was eating congealed baby food. I was prepared to leave until the steaks came out and OMG, what andalvation! My husband had the lump crab salad that was speacial and quite a surprise. My recommendation skip the sides and have the main course and you will be fine. Spent almost 200$ for 2 people, was definitely not worth that.
Have been to Hal's several times but not in a few years. We dine out frequently and go to many top Atlanta restaurants. We had an 8:15 reservation and did not get seated until after 8:45. There was no place to stand to wait and we were getting pushed around by the large crowd at the bar. Once we were seated in the crowded upstairs our service was incredibly slow. We had appetizers and a salad then waited almost 30 minutes for or entrees. The food was ok but not worth the wait and it was so loud you could not have a conversation. Don't plan to go back any time soon. Will go to some of the other top steak houses around.
Really terrible experience. We were there to celebrate a birthday and couldn’t even enjoy ourselves because we were pushed up against the bar in the main upstairs dining area. We could not enjoy dinner because we were constantly being hit in the back.
The service was terrible. One of the guest in our party was not happy with the way her steak was cooked, the waiter was giving her a hard time about sending it back. I havef never had this happen. Also, we had birthday cake and one of the guest got up to use the bathroom, the staff cleared her plate which still had cake on it without asking anyone at the table. We also bought a birthday cake that our waiter was rude about serving us. He suggested a cake on the menu.
I will not be attending this restaurant ever again. The food was so so but the service and ambiance of the restaurant was terrible.
Probably one of the top 10 meals of my life. Hal's has impeccable service from start to finish: greeters, waiters, busboys, bartenders, valet, etc.
We had a special oyster appetizer - excellent, perfect flavor, exactly as described. Two perfect steaks and accompanying past dish. Also attacked a chocolate grenache desert. We had wine during dinner from a very nice list - not marked up too much, probably 100% (probably better than average). Excellent, large cocktails - probably about $15 apiece but they were perfect.
All in all, nothing could have been done better.
What a disappointment! Hal’s WAS one of our favorite places to go but emphasis on WAS! There was a power outage but no one came to explain what was going on until fire trucks appeared and we flagged down a waiter who could not tell what caused the power outage but assured the kitchen continues to fulfill orders. In the meantime the fire alarms were sounding off and the hostesses were fanning the smoke away from the sensors. And the noise from the bar and the live singer trying to outdo the crowds is enough to give one a migraine! Out soup and salads never came but our steaks came but the waiter managed to spill the juice from my husband’s lamb chop all over him. Again no apologies and no clean napkin was offered until asked!!!! For a supposedly high end establishment, this night was a total disappointment. I don’t think we will ever return. Too many better options in Atlanta to pay for such disregard to customers!
First off, I love Hal's and always will. That said, the 4 of us were shouting at each other from the moment we were seated (upstairs) at 6PM (week night) until we hit the door on departure. It was just too dang loud...otherwise, we loved our server (Shawn was beyond fantastic), and everyone enjoyed their food but the noise level took away from an otherwise nice evening.
Food good and service friendly and speedy. it was a busy night and noise level was high. We could enjoy some conversation later in the evening after many clients left. We Didn't have a long wait in line, had reservation and they were very accommodating about allowing us to add an extra person.
It took a really long time for our food to get to us, and the server added something to our bill we didn't order. He was sorry and took it off ASAP, but that was kind of strange. It is super dark in there, and the lights even went down more while we were there. They put us kind of back in a corner area, and it would have been nice to be where some of the action was.
