About Hal's - Buckhead
A restaurant that triumphs in taste over trend, Hal's is not the typical highbrow restaurant so often equated with food of this quality. It is a place of white table cloths, flowers, warm brick, & candlelight.

Hal's - Buckhead Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time to Hal's. We will definitely be back. We arrived well ahead of our reservation, but they were able to seat us immediately. The waiter was new, but very knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. All of our courses we served as expected. We were never rushed nor ignored. Overall, an excellent dining experience.
We moved to the bar after dinner. As the place was very full, we were extremely fortunate to find a table. We were served by a brand new (5th day) cocktail waitress that was very friendly and efficient. My wife enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine while I smoked a cigar. I was truly impressed with how well & quickly the smoke dissipated. When we first arrived, I would not have believed this was a smoking bar.
Overall, our experience at Hal's exceeded our high expectation! The food, drinks and service all were top shelf. We look forward to coming back!
We had a wonderful dinner for the 6 of us. Steaks for 5 and the special sea bass for me! All was fantastic. The special appetizer lobster was the best i’ve ever had. Hal’s is a place to go to celebrate-not a cozy date night. Sure the noise level is loud, you just have to be louder!!
Enjoy the wonderful food and service!
The food and service was fantastic. We sat at the bar before our table was ready and the bartender was very nice and accommodating. Our waiter was also excellent. He gave suggestions and was prompt with all the drinks, appetizers and entree. Great experience!
Best steak I've had in Atlanta by a long shot. Try the Hal's special, the french-cut bone-in ribeye with the cajun seasoning, and a side of the truffle mac and cheese. Also, only go here on the weekends if you are looking for a very energetic and lively scene. Although the setting is romantic, the vibe does not cater to a nice quiet romantic night out. Go here to have fun with friends, eat amazing steak and seafood, smoke at the bar, listen to live music, gawk at the drunk well-to-do locals, and have one or two more drinks than you planned on having.
TERRIBLE - I expected a High End Stakehouse and not to walk into a 1970 Disco. The music was so loud, even upstairs where we sat. They are smoking cigars and cigarettes downstairs in the bar and the disgusting smell hangs in the whole building.
The steaks were undercooked, the Capaccio and salad was served like I was at some Junk food place down the street.
I had heard wonderful things about this place but it was the WORST Steakhouse I have ever seen.
Escargot were nice and plump but were totally tasteless as the butter/ garlicsauce had very little but and tasted only like unsalted butter. Don't waste your money. Strip steak was superb but large rib eye was undercooked (instead of medium rare was closer to rare) which given the dark suroundings was unable to be seen so it was just mushy. At 6:45 pm they were out of 2 of thewines we orderd and we had to go with a third choice which was fine but disappointing that on a New Year's Eve they would be out of wine before 7pm.
Have eaten at many restaurants in Atlanta and was looking for a special place to celebrate a special occasion so went to Open Table and came across Hal’s, reviews were excellent. We had a great table overlooking Buckhead and in distance Atlanta, but the
Service (Dave) and Food was what made the night. Steaks were incredible. Will definelty be coming back....
There seemed to be some sort of frat party gathering tonight - I’ve been several times but the birthday girl had not. I spent an hour and a half apologizing for the nonsense that was the table behind us. Many glances were exchanged amongst the diners and the group was the talk of the valet area, but no one intervened to ask that the f bombs be kept to a minimum (yes, I mentioned the intrusion to my waiter).
As usual, the food was excellent.
However, as it got busier the service level declined. We were a two top in a sea of fuller tables. A second drink was never delivered. The server whipped by on his way to another table and said "so, no dessert tonight folks?" "I'll get your check." In other words, no offer of dessert, nothing about the drink order.
All in all, the poorest experience we have had at Hal's. We will no doubt try again, but are disappointed.
Our waiter was top notch, like I'm used to from living in Chicago and NY, service this good is a rare find in Atlanta. Oops, our appetizer was bused from the table before finishing it, we got an extra plate gratis due to the error by inexperienced bus person. The live piano music is absolutely a hoot to hang out with after dinner. Oh yeah, steaks and LA garlic bread are yummy! Cocktails are top shelf, filled to the brim. A good time was had by all. Recommend and we'll be back!
