Halo Bar & Bistro - Renaissance Edmonton Airport Ratings and Reviews
we had a new waitress that evening, you could tell she was confused and nervous but she told us this so we appreciated her honesty. she was an overall really sweet girl. Our meals were not to par at all for what they were worth. My husband ordered the noodle bowl which he totally hated...it was way too pasty, way too spicy and horrible actually. I had the salmon over rice and the salmon was way over cooked...I couldn't eat it. we were very disappointed and we will not return. For such a beautiful restaurant the meal was terrible.
Food was superb!! I had the buffalo donair - amazing. My friend had 'one of the best steak sandwiches' - both substantial portions (I even took half home) and felt both were reasonably priced. Atmosphere has the 'cool' trendy factor, an enjoyable time was had by all.
All 5 of us had the steak sandwich. And I must say the steak was perfect. The restaurant was already closed but we could eat in the lounge.
I am not the person who likes loud music when you want to have a coversation, so that was the only negative aspect on this lunch. The music was too LOUD for me, but it can also be my age.
Service was good.
I had the pleasure of dealing with the manager (Jeet) for all my needs for my special birthday that was set in one of their private rooms. Ambiance was cool/chic. The menu, although small, had many great options to select from. The service was impeccable. They even knew our names by the end of the night. You don't see that often. Props to the management team who trained them all very well. Dinner was served promptly. Presentation of all my guests' food items was beautiful. The food was so delicious. We all agreed that THIS is our go-to restaurant for fine-dining close to home (Leduc). Highly recommend!
A nice place to dine if you are staying at the hotel and travelling the next day, like we were.
Food was average pricing for simply prepared meals. My husband had the bison pasta special and I sampled a couple of the starters. The shrimp skewers should have been sautéd rather than battered and deep fried and the meatballs had a lovely sauce. Service was friendly and efficient.
We went to Halo for a special anniversary dinner and is was incredible. The food was probably the best meal we have ever had. We had really good service. All the staff we met were very nice. The music was a little loud but other than that it was a great place to go for dinner. We would highly recommend driving to the airport to try this restaurant if you haven't already been there.
Let me start off with the food here is AMAZING. I had the Bison short rib and it was so tender! My friends had the Halo burger and Salmon, both licked their plates clean.
My only negative to the evening was how long everything took to arrive. Almost half an hour for drinks, and the food took another half hour plus after that (we ordered drinks and food at the same time). The service we did get was amazing and very prompt, but I felt things took longer than usual to arrive. I would still highly recommend and most definitely go back!
While the service was the only constant, it was excellent. the food for three of us was quite good but our fourth person ordered the special, duck on penne pasta and was very disappointed as the pasta was cold and the duck portion very tiny. For the daily special to be a fail was a surprise. To give them credit, the meal was taken off the bill and our fourth receive a beautiful salad instead. The other negative was the noise from the bar which is open to the dining room and was very noisy due to a hockey tv broadcast.
We attended Halo restaurant for my wife's birthday. Unfortunately we were a little disappointed in the customer service. The waitress failed to come back to check on our meals once we received them. Also she didn't come back to pour additional wine during the meal. The appetizers were a little skimpy for the price. The entrees were actually quite good. The New York steak and mussels were quite enjoyable. I'm also not a fan of the upright tall chairs. Quite uncomfortable after a while. For the price we paid for the meal you would expect a better overall experience.
Hubby and I celebrated Valentine's Day here almost a year ago and I wrote a pretty neutral review here. Boy, am I glad we gave it a second chance on New Year's Eve! 6 course dinner, 3 options for all courses. Artistically demonstrated and the flavours were amazing. Staff was very polite, very professional and attentive. GM came over to our table to check if everything was all right. We had a very pleasant evening with good cocktails, amazing food and just conveniently walked over to the arrivals hall and grabbed a cab to go home without any wait - on New Year's Eve. Big perk right there too. We will definitely be regulars.
We'll be back to enjoy this culinary treat at YEG. The menu had something for everyone with fresh and local ingredients at reasonable prices. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and the decor was modern and beautiful. We were enjoying a birthday lunch for my husband and he was brought a complementary dessert plate. Be sure to park behind the hotel where parking is free for guests. Great food and great value! Now there is an upside to the drive out to YEG or a delayed flight.
The menu is interesting and features many local ingredients. The modern decor is stunning and intriguing - my family was looking around to take in all of the design elements from the moment we walked into the hotel where this restaurant is located. If you can't decide and want to try a few options, I recommend the small bites - each plate is a burst of flavor and small enough to enjoy a few. The short ribs were a favorite among us. If you have a chance to sit at the bar - ask for the "perfect manhattan" and ask to watch it being made for you. It's an amazing process and a unique cocktail with a smoky flavor (literally from the smoke used to make it). A must try for local and visitors alike - we have visited several times and are always impressed by the service and selection. My only recommendation would be to incorporate more local wines into the menu - for a restaurant boasting "local ingredients" the wines were international and I was looking forward to trying something different and closer to home. Definitely recommend!
The menu is filled extensively with wonderful local and Canadian influences. Meal was absolutely delicious. Server was extremely attentive. The bar area is very relaxed and seems good for get-togethers. For locals, the last time I checked a restaurant booking got you free parking. Phone them to verify. If you're worried about drinking and the distance from Edmonton the hotel is lovely too making this a nice evening/getaway. I've done this and the fiancée loves it. This place is worth a visit.
This is the 2nd time we've been at the Halo. !st time for brunch was great. This time we went for supper and were not disappointed. Good menu, reasonable prices, and good ambiance had us have a wonderful time. We were flying out later in the evening and a leisurely meal at the HALO put us in the right frame of mind to handle the stresses of flying.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Halo. The ambience was beautiful and we were seated in a very private booth. Our server, Andrjea, was very attentive and provided her advice on the menu. We ordered the smoked salmon salad to start. I was disappointed in this dish as it did not have much flavor and required salt and pepper to spice it up. My husband ordered the French onion soup which he also did not rave about. Our main courses were the beef short ribs (super tender and delicious!) and the lamb shank (also tender). My only complaint with the short ribs is that it needs to come with more vegetables as currently it was accompanied by 5 glazed carrots which were great, but not enough! The chef was kind enough to send out a lovely celebratory dessert at the end of our meal which we very much appreciated!
Trendy design and polite, helpful staff. Our meals were good, though not quite at the level I would have expected given the prices. My only real complaint was that, though the food was delivered quickly after we ordered, the entrees were actually too quick, being delivered to the table less than 3 minutes after we received our appetizers. Overall, I'd recommend Halo if you're looking for fine dining at or near the airport, but wouldn't recommend making a special trip from Edmonton solely to visit.
The hotel is located at the airport so it's a bit of a drive, but worth it if you want a new quiet restaurant to enjoy. The decor is ultra modern. I went for brunch and the service was a bit slow but the food was great and the portion sizes were perfect. I also liked that you could substitute potatoes faith fresh fruit.
We ate at Halo last week as we needed to be at the airport in the evening. It is a fairly basic hotel restaurant that you could find in and moderate hotel across North America. The food was good, we had salmon and pasta of the day. A little pricey for what it was however at an airport one must expect that prices will be higher.
The service was very good, our waitress was polite and attentive.
The decor is fairly bland. Lots of white and some fairly uncomfortable chairs with fixed arms too high to easily eat from. I kept bumping my elbows and had to lean forward or hold my arms unnaturally high.
It was a little noisy with music from the adjacent lounge interfering with quiet conversation.
As far as a place to eat at an airport it is certainly better than the chair restaurant options however as a place to go to in and of itself there are better for the price.
I booked a reservation for my husband's birthday for 2:00 pm on a Saturday. It was very quiet, beautiful atmosphere, great service & food. My only complaint is, that despite making a reservation, we were seated in the lounge & the menu online for lunch was different from the lounge menu we were provided.
We both had the fish tacos and were disappointed. Whole piece of deep fried fish placed in soft tacos. Was expecting a fish mixture. Reminded us of fish from fish and chips, without the chips but with soft tacos-- very ordinary. The beet slaw was very vinegary. I like beets and was expecting the red beets. Maybe I didn't read the menu description carefully enough? Items disappointing but still ok. Caesar salad was good, though. Convenient venue to have lunch while waiting for airport arrivals.
Last minute of Easter Sunday morning, we decided we wanted to go for brunch rather than make it at home. We were able to get a table at Halo. It was a great experience. There were plenty of choices for our kids. Our food was delicious. We will definitely be back! Can't wait to try the dinner menu.
I took my wife for a Valentines dinner. The unique modern ambiance was very refreshing. Service was both timely and friendly. We ate from a select menu because of the occasion and both are meals were great. Much larger portions than I expected and as a bistro they really serve their food in an artistic manner. Not only would I recommend Halo Bistro to friends and family but my wife and I will be back there as well!
The restaurant interior is fantastic. It is very chic, very hip, a real nice environment. Was very impressed by being greeted at the hotel door and directed to the restaurant by a very friendly valet. But then the staff at the restaurant is awkward - they are obviously juniors and not trained or experienced waiters or waitresses. Or if they are, something else is wrong, maybe motivation? There was no introduction, no friendly chit-chat, no recommendations, never offered a drink menu, we had to ask for it, she used strange phrases like 'do you know what you want' instead of 'have you decided' or 'do you know what you would like', etc. Service was slow for a 5 pm, when there were only two other tables occupied in the whole restaurant. The food looked delicious, but I have to say that for taste it was disappointing. The representation was beautiful, which made the taste test that much more disappointing. It wasn't bad but there was nothing special about it. The flavors for me were very toned down in the appetizer and the main course, you barely really tasted the difference between the protein and the sides, other than the texture. Then the dessert was so overly sweet, that I could actually not eat it and sent half of it back - and believe me, I love my dessert. I have seen a couple other people do the same with the same dessert around us. The cocktails were ok, but again not outstanding. And the price tag was way too high for the quality of the service and the food. Comparatively for the same amount of money, there is a whole lot of restaurants in the city serving better food, better drinks and with much more professional service.
