Excellent food and good variety. Priced competitively with other local premium restaurants. The back room is much quieter than the front room.
Excellent food and service in a great atmosphere.
The Lemongrass Ginger Frost drink was amazing. We had the lamb and the seafood curry as well as the pulled pork and goat cheese wontons. Everything was yummy!!
Had wonderful craft cocktails at the bar before dinner because we were early for our reservation. We started with the sashimi Napoleon, and the shishito peppers, both delicious.
For entrees, I had the szechuan salmon, very tasty, and my wife had the seafood coconut curry, also very good. We were too full to be tempted by dessert, but finished with coffee.
A nice rainy dinner out.
Nice place, good service and awesome food selection.
Service was fast, friendly, and they anticipated my needs. Food was delicious and i was happy with the portion sizes of each meal and appetizers.
We had the mothers day brunch. The prime rib was really tender. Too much use of Krab with a "K" instead of the real thing. Brunch was $50 which i felt was at the top of the scale for this menu.
Wonderful food. Unique items to try.
Food & Service was Excellent as Usual!!!
My husband and I had a lovely anniversary dinner here on our vacation to Hawaii. I’m vegetarian, and they have a separate veg menu that is truly excellent. The food was exquisite. Can’t wait to visit again.
Hands down, BEST dining on the island. Service was exceptional and friendly. Food was prepared perfectly. Great vegetarian menu too. Front start to finish, pure perfection.
We had a very enjoyable meal at Haliimaile recently. Our waiter was excellent, very engaging, very energetic and very informative. My first dish was a dumpling dish. My only negative comment was that I thought the dumplings were too heavily deep fried - they were crunchy as opposed to be soft with a light crunch on the edges. Unfortunately, the menu did not reference the fact they were deep fried. My wife had a house salad which was very nice. My main course lamb dish was excellent - it has been on the menu for 30 years with good reason. My wife’s main dish was the curry fish stew which was also excellent. We would go back to this restaurant again, one of the few restaurants in Maui that we tried and to which we would return.
Haliimaile General Store is one of our favorite destinations for a really good meal and I normally would give them a solid 5 stars.
BUT: I ordered the blistered semi -spicy peppers appetizer, and for a while that was the best of our 3 appetizers -- until I bit into the one ghost pepper among all the peppers. The waiter had told me there would be one, and that it could not be determined visually which of the many peppers on the plate that was. I thought it was a joke, since ghost peppers are so unbearably hot, that a restaurant wouldn't smuggle one into a "semi spicy" dish. I even like super spicy, but even I couldn't feel anything but a burn in my mouth for a good 5 minutes. No idea how a person who is sensitive to spicy food would have fared.
We had a lovely meal among old friends, and by the time of the dessert I had forgotten the incident. On the way home we wondered if the single ghost pepper is a standard - and very cruel - hidden ingredient in this otherwise phenomenal dish, or if it was a mistake the kitchen made and decided to serve it to me anyhow. Either way, it's not "pono" as the Hawaiians say.
Incredible delicious food! Best on the island!!
Delicious dinner in a lovely setting. Wait staff was attentive and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed our first, and we are hopeful not our last, dining experience at the General Store. The avocado tempura was unusual and wonderful with a touch of sweetness that worked perfectly. The seafood curry was unbelievably good and I would recommend it highly. I also enjoyed the presentation that included side dishes of cashews, toasted coconut and pineapple chutney. Finally, the warm pineapple upside down cake was perfect. The wine list is strong.
Chris is the best waiter in the world! He kept us entertained and provided amazing service! Everything was awesome... as usual!
The food and the service It’s always. The noise level makes it hard to visit while dining
Haliimaile General Stored was recommended to us and we are so happy we tried it! I had the seafood curry and it was great flavor, plentiful fish and veggies. My boyfriend got the opakapaka and it was also delicious. We loved the atmosphere - relaxed and friendly. Cocktails had their own twist - the one i tried was some sort of tropical punch with toasted coconut on the rim. There’s a small bar you can eat at as well. The prices were very reasonable. We would definitely return.
This is our third visit to this restaurant and never disappoints. Everything on the menu is fantastic and cooked and presented to perfection . It is almost an hour drive from both sides of the island but well worth the time
An awesome place for dinner. The food was fantastic with a very good menu. Drinks were excellent and original. Front area of restaurant noisy but tolerable. Decor was tasteful and authentic.
Great place! High recommended to put on everyone’s list of “Must Go” Maui Restaurant list!
Great meal, as always. I had a 6;30PM reservation for 3; arrived a bit early, but was able to be seated. I advised the hostess I was meeting a couple. At 6:45PM, I was concerned as this couple is never late for anything. The waiter and hostess stopped by twice to inquire about my guests. Finally, at 6:50PM, I called my guests. They were waiting outside on the front patio. They arrived at 6:30PM, gave my name and said they'd wait outside as the hostess said I had not arrived yet.
We’ve been here twice for lunch, and this time for dinner. Simply amazing! Dinner rivals Mamas Fish House!
Haven't been here in awhile and it was a good experience going back. Decor had been updated (paint, art) and service staff was far more attentive. Food was delicious and a varied menu. Still quite noisy, hard to hear others at a 4 person table. I would recommend.
Amazing food and friendly staff
We were visiting from Honolulu for the weekend, and wanted to dine there at least once since we hadn't been there for several years. We were able to get a dinner reservation on Friday, and had a wonderful dinner! The food was excellent, and the service friendly and attentive. Especially enjoyed the scallop and Hamachi carpaccio, crispy duck, and the vanilla bean ice cream and mango sorbet for dessert.
Our favorite stop on Maui for a great local meal. It’s 15 minutes from the restaurant to the Kahului airport so it’s the perfect place for dinner before a red eye back to the mainland. It’s quiet early, but the front area really picks up around 6:30 PM even during the week and is quite noisy. They were very kind in providing a free refill of the glass of wine I spilled (all over my wife).
What a great restaurant... the setting, service, food, etc.... if you clearly want something special and an occasion that is pure aloha.... just do it.....
Coconut Shrimp Curry was absolutely delicious. Wonderful menu. It was hard to choose.
We looked forward to dining at Haliʻimaile General Store. Being local, this would be a treat for us. It has been 10+ years for me and the first time for my boyfriend.
If you want intimate dining. This may not be suited for you. The noise level is quite loud unless you get a table in the back.
The food did come out quick. My favorite appetizer, Crab Pizza didn’t disappoint me. Popcorn Shrimp wasn’t spectacular.
I had the Braised Short Rib which was on risotto. So soft, no knife was needed. The risotto was a perfect compliment. My boyfriend had the 1/2 Crispy Duck. Unfortunately it was dry and not tasty at all. We had his 5 year old daughter with us and she had the cheese pizza. She opted for the Crab Pizza instead.
Joe Gannon was browsing through the dining area. He was kind and stopped by our table to check on us and talked with the youngest at the table.
It would probably be a special occasion for us to go back considering the prices.
We love to make a stop here. It feels like the islands. The atmosphere has the sweetness of old rural Hawaii with a fresh take. A fellow diner played his guitar on the porch while we waited for the restaurant to open. The food is excellent and the cocktails were fun. The staff is happy, knowledgeable and friendly. Salmon, curry, poke and duck, we all enjoyed our meals!
Our Server Tony spent just the right amount of time and attention with us, from assisting with cocktail recommendation - Maui Mule - best ever! to salad choice - special had greens which I was wanting, and entrée - Coconut Curry and lamb for the birthday boy - Rich - We will be back. This location is our family's go to, for special occasions or just because!
Our friends recommended us this restaurant and it was well worth the drive from the airport. We had some time to kill before driving to our resort in Kaanapali and stopped for lunch. Loved the ambiance, food was wonderful and service was great. They have a great drink menu as well. The seafood napoleon is worth trying and great for sharing. Our experience was so good that we stopped again for dinner with some friends.
Food was good but not great. It was extremely loud at 5pm on a Tuesday. I can’t imagine how loud it would be when the place was busy.
Another wonderful experience; we keep coming back when we are on the island and the Hali’imaile General Store never disappoints.
Worth the drive.
Lemongrass cocktail cool and refreshing. Ahi Poke Bowl excellent. Coconut curry bowl favorably extraordinary. Can hardly wait to return.
A favorite here on Maui.
Mahi Mahi macadamia can't be missed. Coconut curry was delicious. Although not on the menu our waiter accommodated our request for Affagato (espresso & vanilla ice cream ) yummy. Great service and delicious food.
This is a wonderful restaurant for locals and visitors alike. The food is always great and the servers very attentive!
I ordered Mac nut crusted Mahi with purple sweet potatoes and a lilikoi sauce and it was delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly. We also ordered the ribs which I'm told were very delicious.
Bev's crab pizza was unique and tasty and just enough for our party of four to each have a piece.
The drive here was peaceful in the upcountry Maui way. I will be back when on Maui again
A long-time upcountry Maui institution and, without a doubt, one of Maui's top eateries. Service is efficient and with aloha. Almost everything on the menu is time-tested and well liked. Caesar salad is the real thing (not the usual mayo-based faux Caesar), sashimi napoleon is a must. I'm partial to the fish curry, but almost every entre is excellent. It's not on cocktail menu , but the liliquoi daiquiri is outstanding. So is the ginger lemongrass fizz. The wine list is comprehensive and carefully thought out. There a re some bottles rarely found in Hawaii restaurants. Early evening light in Haliimale is golden and you can catch a beautiful sunset on the way. Lunch is extremely popular and has a unique (some think better) menu than dinner. My favorite for many years. Very casual. Reservations recommended. Request the "front room", but visit the back room to see some top local art. Worth the drive from the resorts, but an easy stop on the return from Haleakala, or Hana.
