The restaurant was slammed it was 7pm & I had a 7:15pm reservation. In Maui that usually means 30-45 minutes to wait after your reservation time but I was delightfully surprised when I was seated with 2 young children promptly at 7:15pm. The service was top notch took our order right away & the food was out in 10-15 minutes I couldn’t be happier. The kitchen was on it.
This is clearly superior management hiring the right people the hostesses the waitress all had a smile on there face & everyone worked well together I was truly impressed after 10 years on Maui I didn’t think this existed lol
A must do for anyone visiting Maui, well worth the drive and the food is spectacular.
Very creative food presentations and the food is just as spectacular.
Our server was very freindly and attentive. She spent a fair amount of time with us chatting and explaining the menu. All items that we ordered were beautifully presented. The flavors were excellent. The fish was done just right, cooked but still very moist. Highly recommended.
The food was out of this world. The ribs were delicious and tender and fell off the bones. The mashed potatoes and coleslaw went well with the ribs. My husband loved the cioppino which was a special. The Tai-Mai was the best mai-tai
I’ve ever had in any restaurant. We were too full for dessert. We vacation in Maui every and we’ll be sure to dine there again and again.
(For some reason when we arrived on March 9, it was not warm and even the staff apologized for the cool temperature. Couple of friends at the table commented on the 'cool' green lighting in the back area, which they didn't really like. Subjective but it was noticeable enough to comment on).
Food was excellent and drinks were excellent. 'Christopher' was our waiter and he was accommodating, informative, funny and all-round super pleasant to have as our waiter. He also quick picked-up that I was the point-person on the table to make orders or wine and cake etc. Great place to go and it has a lot of historical charm to it!
The food was mediocre at best. The ribs were undercooked, the salmon was overcooked.
Dining in the epicenter of Maui’s Upcountry felt a million miles from the beach and a lot more like the Colorado mountain life. We were so enthralled by the local paneolo (cowboy) culture that we threw out our promise of “seafood only” and ordered a big fat ribeye and rack of lamb. Not that there wasn’t plenty of seafood on the menu. The food was some of the best we’ve had and the service somehow even better.
Always delicious food here. Reservations HIGHLY recommended since it is very popular.
Oh Christopher took great care of us as we were hoping Dale might be available but alas, Dale does not work weekends: he’s the best. Christopher however more than handled the situation beginning with a nice bottle of Chardonnay, then the Napoleon (10 of 10), then the beef won ton’s (also 10 of 10) then the crab pizza (really, really rich but good) and finished off with the Pineapple upside down cake my wife is still recovering (2 days later) from the sweet overload - too, too good. Joe Gannon happened to be cruising through while we ate and was pleasant, approachable and full of fun. Another great treat. By all means pull out the GPS when on Maui and visit the Haliimaile General Store. Best on Maui. Period.
This was a first for us. What a wonderful find. The service and food are excellent. The seafood and preparations are excellent. Look forward to dining here again.
Overblown. We were very disappointed in the menu selections for dinner. Duck was tuff.
The food was very tasty. Pricing was on the high end and I was so dirappointed the crime brûlée was changes from when I had eaten there previously. Ribs were delicious. Very noisy though and difficult to converse at the table.
We had lunch and were pleased enough to return for dinner. However, there were two parties with children in the back dining room making the noise level uncomfortable. We felt the prices were high and the food presentation, quality did not equal the cost. We would recommend for lunch but not dinner. Sorry
I have been to Haliimaile General Store several times in the last few years, and was challenged by the lack of gluten-free options and the policy of no substitutions. This time, there were more options and you can do substitutions, so I would go again.
Another incredible meal and great service. It is however very noisy by the bar area so request a back room if you want to talk at all. Make a reservation!
My only complaint and my husband was the echo and noice, but that's because we are older and I were hearing aids which makes that type of sound difficult to tolerate. If I take them out I cannot hear anyone. Other than that it was excellent.
Have been. Ming to Maui for 18 years and always have to make at least one visit to Haliimaile, more if we can fit it in.
When here for my Birthday and was not disappointed. Need to make sure that when then serve beer that it is cold. Food good, service good.
This is our third trip to the GS..and possible our last...
Had contacted the restaurant direct the day of our res. informed them of the “special occasion birthday” they asked the spelling of the name..figure we were on the same page..We were sat in hug extremely noise extremely well lit back room that felt like a banquet room at a Holiday Inn..Our waitress Carol did her best but she was working way to many tables..Food was well prepared..No mention of special occasion birthday...spoke to the hostess on the way out...she had the manager call...he asked for my email address..crickets since..
Many great restaurants on the Island..I’ll opt for the view next time..
Enjoyed great food and service at this restaurant, it was our first time here, recommended to us. The only downside is that it is in an old general store with very high ceilings and the noise level is very high.
Outstanding food, service and great value in Maui. It’s Mum as fish house upcountry...
I don't need to say what has already been said. This is the best restaurant outside of the resort areas. Off the beaten path, but amazing. 5 stars across the board. My pork chop was perfect, and my date said it was the best green curry she has ever had. Thank you Bev.
The tomato salad was amazing! All of our group had a different entree for dinner and all were very pleased! Pineapple upside down cake for Deseret was great! The creme Berle was not a hit. Overall would highly recommend!
We ate here before flying home, as it's close to Kahului. The folks across the street at the distillery, Hai'ilimaile Distilling, had told us it was good when we toured there a couple days prior. We had a great meal, both dishes, the seafood curry and the grilled ahi noodle bowl, were delicious. Our server, Chris, was very nice, as was the bartender. Would recommend and will come back!
First visit after sunset on Haleakala. Sashimi Napoleon was excellent and the ribs were very tasty, if a little vinegary. Melt in your mouth and more than enough for anyone. Service was attentive without being intrusive. I’m a fan of fruity cocktails, the two I had were a bit too sweet but my husband’s were better. I’d definitely eat here again. Fun place, difficult parking.
My wife and I stumbled on Haliimaile General Store at the recommendation from an Air BNB host, and we could not have been happier. We waited just a couple minutes for our table, and were seated in the back in a nice quiet corner. The drinks were strong, tart, and not overly sweet, and the menu sported choices which all sounded like something I'd be in the mood for. After deliberating, I ordered the lamb, and my wife ordered the curried seafood stew. Both options were impeccable, from the rich lamb cooked perfectly pink, to the tender seafood infused with just the right amount of coconut and lemongrass finishing with a rolling heat. I would gladly send anyone to the General Store, and hope they remain a staple to the area the next time we visit.
Food is good. More consistent than last year. Definitely energetic noise level. Recommended. Wine list is pricey but there are some good reasonable choices if you know what to look for. One of the best choices on the North side.
Great food, great service, get there early to avoid the cacaphony, would definitely return.
Wonderful as ever. Great food and terrific service
Great place! We had an awesome dining experience. I love that they’re so great and away from the resort areas!
We returned after years. The food was as we remembered!
Food and service good but way too noisy
The food and service was good, however there are a couple of things that bother me about this restaurant.
One, they charge you $3 for 5 rolls, two, in the menu there is a statement saying they want you to have the best dining experience therefore there are no substitutions. Really? Sometimes you need to change a food item to have a great experience. Third, $8.00 split fee. Ok, you can get around that.
Casual fine dining. What fine dining should be for Hawaii. Wonderful quality, friendly service, great flavors, and a reasonably proved cup of very good coffee.
The food and service was very good. The front of the house was a bit noisy for our hard of hearing guest. We asked to be moved to a different area which was done. We all enjoyed our dinner, dessert and cocktails. Good value.
We enjoyed ourselves there very much. The scenery is nothing special but the food and service was great. We will be going back.
Great food! Great waiter! Happy we stopped!
I have eaten the duck dish quite a few times before but tonites duck was so tough I barely touched it. My husband said he would take the leftovers for lunch tomorrow but he also could barely eat it because of the toughness. This was his birthday dinner so it wasnt as good as i had hoped it would be. VERY disappointing!!!
Stopped here for a great lunch and LOVED it. Food was terrific and our waiter was over the top good. Highly recommend.
