Coconut Shrimp Curry was absolutely delicious. Wonderful menu. It was hard to choose.
We looked forward to dining at Haliʻimaile General Store. Being local, this would be a treat for us. It has been 10+ years for me and the first time for my boyfriend.
If you want intimate dining. This may not be suited for you. The noise level is quite loud unless you get a table in the back.
The food did come out quick. My favorite appetizer, Crab Pizza didn’t disappoint me. Popcorn Shrimp wasn’t spectacular.
I had the Braised Short Rib which was on risotto. So soft, no knife was needed. The risotto was a perfect compliment. My boyfriend had the 1/2 Crispy Duck. Unfortunately it was dry and not tasty at all. We had his 5 year old daughter with us and she had the cheese pizza. She opted for the Crab Pizza instead.
Joe Gannon was browsing through the dining area. He was kind and stopped by our table to check on us and talked with the youngest at the table.
It would probably be a special occasion for us to go back considering the prices.
We love to make a stop here. It feels like the islands. The atmosphere has the sweetness of old rural Hawaii with a fresh take. A fellow diner played his guitar on the porch while we waited for the restaurant to open. The food is excellent and the cocktails were fun. The staff is happy, knowledgeable and friendly. Salmon, curry, poke and duck, we all enjoyed our meals!
Our Server Tony spent just the right amount of time and attention with us, from assisting with cocktail recommendation - Maui Mule - best ever! to salad choice - special had greens which I was wanting, and entrée - Coconut Curry and lamb for the birthday boy - Rich - We will be back. This location is our family's go to, for special occasions or just because!
Our friends recommended us this restaurant and it was well worth the drive from the airport. We had some time to kill before driving to our resort in Kaanapali and stopped for lunch. Loved the ambiance, food was wonderful and service was great. They have a great drink menu as well. The seafood napoleon is worth trying and great for sharing. Our experience was so good that we stopped again for dinner with some friends.
Food was good but not great. It was extremely loud at 5pm on a Tuesday. I can’t imagine how loud it would be when the place was busy.
Another wonderful experience; we keep coming back when we are on the island and the Hali’imaile General Store never disappoints.
Worth the drive.
Lemongrass cocktail cool and refreshing. Ahi Poke Bowl excellent. Coconut curry bowl favorably extraordinary. Can hardly wait to return.
A favorite here on Maui.
Mahi Mahi macadamia can't be missed. Coconut curry was delicious. Although not on the menu our waiter accommodated our request for Affagato (espresso & vanilla ice cream ) yummy. Great service and delicious food.
This is a wonderful restaurant for locals and visitors alike. The food is always great and the servers very attentive!
I ordered Mac nut crusted Mahi with purple sweet potatoes and a lilikoi sauce and it was delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly. We also ordered the ribs which I'm told were very delicious.
Bev's crab pizza was unique and tasty and just enough for our party of four to each have a piece.
The drive here was peaceful in the upcountry Maui way. I will be back when on Maui again
A long-time upcountry Maui institution and, without a doubt, one of Maui's top eateries. Service is efficient and with aloha. Almost everything on the menu is time-tested and well liked. Caesar salad is the real thing (not the usual mayo-based faux Caesar), sashimi napoleon is a must. I'm partial to the fish curry, but almost every entre is excellent. It's not on cocktail menu , but the liliquoi daiquiri is outstanding. So is the ginger lemongrass fizz. The wine list is comprehensive and carefully thought out. There a re some bottles rarely found in Hawaii restaurants. Early evening light in Haliimale is golden and you can catch a beautiful sunset on the way. Lunch is extremely popular and has a unique (some think better) menu than dinner. My favorite for many years. Very casual. Reservations recommended. Request the "front room", but visit the back room to see some top local art. Worth the drive from the resorts, but an easy stop on the return from Haleakala, or Hana.
We had been here about 15 years ago and I enjoyed it much better back then. The food seemed way more creative...now it seems less so. After having just come off a visit to Mama's fish house, I was struck by the almost exact similarity of several items on the menu between the two restaurants. Not sure who is copying whom, but I had thought after my prior visit to Haliimaile that Haliimaile would surely have blown Mama's away both with creativity and quality of food...but things have obviously changed. While the food was still delicious, I was a bit disappointed that Haliimaile seems to have lost its forward thinking edge. And the noise level was pretty high...don't plan on having any intimate conversations with your dinner party. I would still say it ranks as one of the best restaurants in Maui, but they seem to be resting on past laurels.
Fantastic food. Fantastic staff. Fantastic dent in my wallet but worth every penny. Thank you for making it such a wonderful night. We'll surely be back. Aloha.
This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I come back to Maui just to have another meal here. Love it love it love it.
Great food and service at Bev Gannon’s Haili i Maile General away from mainstream location on Maui. Setting is in an old town area on the way to Haleakala Volcano. Worth the drive. Ate here twice on this trip. Large portions and presentation are inviting. Will always return here.
Very average, definitely not worth the price tag, would never return or recommend.
Been coming here since 2000. Always a must do when coming to Maui, maybe a couple of times each trip. DElIGHTFUL
Great food and service. Definitely return.
Recommended by the owner of our B and B.
Great food, wine and service. Our waitress Becky ? Brown was terrific. In addition she was warm and friendly and made us feel comfortable from the get-go.
The manger was also very friendly and stopped by our table several times to make sure everything was going well.
The food and service were excellent. No problem with the noise level at all.
The only drawback were the cocktails. They weren’t that good. They have a very good wine list so I would stick with that.
The bar tenders were a little loud
Food was excellent. Noise level seemed higher than normal. You really need to talk loud to hear people in your own party. Service was sib-par on this occasion. Our waitress was not very attentive. Appetizer plates were piled 6 high in front of me while the waitress and bussers walked past me several times. Soup was delivered without a spoon. Our drinks sat on the bar waiting to be delivered for several minutes.
As always this is a restaurant that delivers. Food was delicious, service exquisite. Love dining here and you will too!
Love this place. Great service, Great food, and a lot of Aloha. I appreciate the accommodated vegetarian menu.
Favorite restaurant upcountry! My girlfriends and I meet up as much as we can!
Excellent food and excellent service our favorite place to eat on Maui
We heard wonderful things about this restaurant so we gave it a try. Its wide open and very loud.. not the kind of dining experience we enjoy. My husband and I had the Mac nut fish..which was perfectly cooked! The accompanying pineapple salsa left a weird, metallic taste/feel on our tongues. Overall, our experience was just... good.
Food was great. Crab pizza should definitely not be missed. Wine list was absolutely perfect with great selections and fair pricing.
The food was amazing! Absolutely delicious! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! My complaint is that while dining, my water glass became covered with condensation, making it slippery. When I picked it up, it slipped and shattered all over my entree', making it unfit to eat! It was a split with a friend, so I realize it wasn't a full portion, but I had taken only one bite of the Mahi Mahi and two bites of the side dish. We received no compensation whatsoever? I just want it noted, that I would have come away with a better feeling, if management had given us a price reduction , an extra appetizer or even an I'm sorry that this happened! It was completely ignored and it put a damper on my evening.
Restaurant needs a "Facelift" tired looking inside and windows full of dead bugs and paint falling off them.
This is our favorite restaurant on Maui. The food is wonderfully fresh and always beautifully presented. It is a touchstone if every trip to Maui. It is up on the mountain side away from the noise and bustle of the tourist hotels. The food is magnificent. The building gives you some insight into old Maui.
The food and ambience of Haliimaile General Store is second to none on Maui. This is a must do for any visitor to Maui. We have eaten here no less than 10 times over a 5 year period and it only continues to improve each time. It is a bit out of the way but worth every minute of time that it takes to get there. Do not miss an opportunity to enjoy this one of kind experience.
The restaurant was slammed it was 7pm & I had a 7:15pm reservation. In Maui that usually means 30-45 minutes to wait after your reservation time but I was delightfully surprised when I was seated with 2 young children promptly at 7:15pm. The service was top notch took our order right away & the food was out in 10-15 minutes I couldn’t be happier. The kitchen was on it.
This is clearly superior management hiring the right people the hostesses the waitress all had a smile on there face & everyone worked well together I was truly impressed after 10 years on Maui I didn’t think this existed lol
A must do for anyone visiting Maui, well worth the drive and the food is spectacular.
Very creative food presentations and the food is just as spectacular.
Our server was very freindly and attentive. She spent a fair amount of time with us chatting and explaining the menu. All items that we ordered were beautifully presented. The flavors were excellent. The fish was done just right, cooked but still very moist. Highly recommended.
The food was out of this world. The ribs were delicious and tender and fell off the bones. The mashed potatoes and coleslaw went well with the ribs. My husband loved the cioppino which was a special. The Tai-Mai was the best mai-tai
I’ve ever had in any restaurant. We were too full for dessert. We vacation in Maui every and we’ll be sure to dine there again and again.
(For some reason when we arrived on March 9, it was not warm and even the staff apologized for the cool temperature. Couple of friends at the table commented on the 'cool' green lighting in the back area, which they didn't really like. Subjective but it was noticeable enough to comment on).
Food was excellent and drinks were excellent. 'Christopher' was our waiter and he was accommodating, informative, funny and all-round super pleasant to have as our waiter. He also quick picked-up that I was the point-person on the table to make orders or wine and cake etc. Great place to go and it has a lot of historical charm to it!
