Haliimaile General Store Ratings and Reviews
I used to really like it there but it felt like the food had been pre-prepared ( I could be wrong) and not nearly as good as it used to be. I think it is living on its reputation as a great restaurant . I have been going for as long as it has been there and would not make the drive again .
Excellent restaurant. Smile decor - but high ceilings. Great menu with excellent food and incredible wine list. Reasonable prices on all items. Sandra is a joy! Very cheerful, helpful and knowledgeable server. Overall we would rank it among the top 3 places to eat on the Island along with Humuhumu and Monkey pod. Thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience here. Thanks Sandra and team
Had an amazing meal. Our server, Christopher, was very attentive and friendly. The service was great, staff were refilling drinks and clearing tables quickly. Appetizers, entrees and dessert were absolutely delicious! Very happy to have come across this place!
I suppose we were unlucky and the chef had an off night and also several menu items were not available. The flat bread was like something was missing. Brie quesadillas were fine but not memorable. Seafood currie was not very flavorful and very heavy on coconut milk. Crispy duck was fine but not memorable as well.
My sister and I had dinner at Haliimaile on the last day of our vacation on beautifulul Maui.
Our waitress was very nice and helpful. All our questions were answered really well. As we shared everything we asked to serve the two main courses behind each other with an extra plate.
The food - Bev’s Famous Crab Pizza, coconut seafood curry, rib eye steak, and Love in a Jar (salted caramel, dark chocolate mousse,
devil’s food chocolate cake) - was very good and tasty. It’s hard to say which one we liked best. Hailiimaile’s curry is definitely much better than the one we had at Mam’s Fish House.
The cocktails were very good as well!
Hailiimaile is not cheap but the price is fair for the quality and amount of food.
The only “downside” is that the place is not very cozy. No tablecloths for example. It’s more like shabby chic. But apparently it’s more a place for locals than a fancy tourist spot.
I can highly recommend Hailiimaile. It was the best dinner we had on Maui and we would surely come back if we visit Maui again!
A bit of a wait for main food order to arrive (1 hr from seating) I ordered a well done burger. I had three burgers over 2 weeks in Maui. All were well done and cooked perfectly. The waitress said our food was taking long because of the well done burger. Really?? And, it was burnt crispy. Well done means not pink in middle. It doesn't mean burn it.
Shrimp app was good.
Would not rush out to eat here again.
Consistently good service, meal selection , bar service and portion sizes.
Great selection of Island style appetizers, seafood and land offerings. Have been here several times and it’s consistently very good all around. A bit pricey but the norm for a very good Maui restaurant, although this location is off the beaten path.
We have heard lots of good reputation on this restaurant and tried booking a couple of times before. Our reservation was at 16:45 for our early dinner but almost all tables were full before 5:30 PM. I ordered a plate of tenderloin with lobster, which was served perfect. Our table was near the kitchen and we could see inside well. All chefs’ work were well organized and their quality of work was magnificent. Busy restaurant and will need to drive a half an hour from Kihei, where we stayed, but still worth trying this place.
The restaurant was extremely loud and we were sat near the work station (non stop blenders and clinging pots and pans) our appetizers were amazing, but the server delivered them all at the same time instead of spaced out like we asked.
After we got our apps we never saw our server at our table again. She was very rude and stand-offish. Our cocktails were empty for the majority of our dining experience and we had to ask the bussers if they could put in another round. They said they would send the server over, she never paid any attention to us, and I had to ask 3 times until one of them finally took it upon themselves to help us. When our entree arrived, it came with a dish of accompaniments and we waited for someone to come tell us what we had been served, but agin, we were left to fend for ourselves.
The final kicker is that when we made the reservation, we said it was for my birthday, which was never acknowledged. Every other restaurant we have booked a special occasion at, they greeted us with excitement, congratulations on the occasion and went above and beyond to make you feel special. When the server dropped the check we had to ask for Togo boxes and she ignored the request. Her name was Veronica according to the check ( if you choose to try this restaurant request NOT to sit in her section)
Overall, I will never go back to this restaurant. It is a shame for anyone to be treated so poorly, but especially when you are locals only seeking a special night out.
Dinner environment was special as this was a return visit from 20 years ago. Service and cocktails were excellent, but food was a bit bland this time (sadly, it was the curry), which made us sad. The best dish was the steamed fish. All in all, it was a good experience, but the food was lacking this time.
We had our family Christmas dinner here. Amazing service and all five of us were extremely happy with our meals. This is a much nicer restaurant than the name implies. White linen and an upscale atmosphere but still Maui casual. We will definitely go back anytime we are on Maui.
Good food, great ambience for Xmas dinner. Our waiter, Christopher provided great service as well as entertainment.... Hope that they keep him for a long time. We are locals from the West Side so we will definitely be back and will make sure to request him.
Our dinner reservation was for Christmas Eve. The restaurant was very busy, and by 7pm the staff had been going for hours and was likely feeling slammed. I've eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and always found it to be a lovely treat, but this time the food was overcooked (our won tons were nearly burnt, but we did not want to deal with sending them back), the service slow (once seated, we waited 10+ minutes for our server or anyone to stop by our table), and the menu way overpriced. We didn't have wine because one glass cost as much as a bottle we could buy at the store. I've been off island for a couple of years, and during that time the prices appear to have increased quite a bit. We will not likely be returning unless we hear about some great improvements.
We started out meal with the net salad, which was amazing! I had a tomahawk pork chop with cornbread stuffing and my husband had the surf and turf. All was prepared to our exact specifications because the stag inquired in detail about our preferences. The presentation was nice. For dessert, we had a lilikoi brulee and out was wonderful. I enjoyed a nice glad of a 20 year old port. All in all, VERY good. Do not go for a quiet romantic dinner as the place is loud.
Food here was excellent...pricy but you know that ahead of time...had the rib eye and it was cooked perfect...corn side dish was awesome...my wife had the lamb chops..also excellent...chocolate decadence dessert was very good...place was packed but service was a little slow...also very loud in the restaurant but not a deal breaker
After many years of traveling to Maui we had never tried HMGS until this last weekend given it is a long drive from the west side of Maui. Unfortunately, we were rather underwhelmed after such high expectations. It's a lively place and our reservation was early thankfully because it allowed options for seating after initially being sat right in front of the open kitchen and we would not have been able to hear ourselves. We requested to be reseated which they did accommodate but as I mentioned, had been later and the place full that might not have occurred. Personally, I hate dining in a nice place, spending a lot of money for a meal only to face a kitchen. Knowing what I know now a word to the wise, request at the time of making the reservation a seat by the window. So onto the food... I have no problem paying $12 for a Mai Tai or in the case of HMGS, a "Tai Mai" which was apparently a $15K award winning drink recipe in a contest. While it was flavorful, I would not say they were generous on the alcohol... whenever there is too much ice, that is a dead giveaway of poor value. We ordered two salads, the beet salad with goat cheese fondue which was delicious but not sure why they called it fondue as it just seemed to be a generous portions of cubed cooked yellow and red beets atop a smattering of room temperature goat cheese. The HMGS signature house salad was pretty blah and despite supposedly having bleu cheese added, the sprinkling was extremely minimal that I just about almost forgot it was one of the ingredients, not to mention the dressing was totally nondescript. My husbands choice of curry seafood he reports was absolutely delicious. However my entree of salmon which I was concerned might be a bit too spicy and the waitress very accommodating indicated she would put that ingredient on the side, ended up being just a bit ho hum without it. The dessert of "Love in a jar" was quite yummy. The food portions are good but wont be back given the choices on Maui.
