Haliimaile General Store
We had a great experience and an awesome meal!!
Mahalo to Janet and rest of team for making my daughter Maile’s 21st Birthday so special ! From the Maile Hoku drink they created and her birthday cake they made her night special . Ken Wright Ohana
Excellent as previously mentioned unfortunately the screaming 3 year old child and parents who didn’t address it sitting right next to our table took much of the environmental pleasure from our experience.
This was the last meal during our vacation in Maui. We definitely saved the best for last. The food and service were exceptional.
Hailemaile is an epic destination for those going to Maui and with some discretionary spending ability. While a bit off the beaten path, the food is consistently excellent as is the service and it is definitely in the top 2-3 restaurants to try in Maui.
The gentleman waiter was genuinely friendly and observant.
A place like this is where I indulge because in each area it is unique and star quality.
So sad to say Haliimaile General Store has lost its shine. It was once one of our top 5 “must go”restaurants on Maui for delicious food. Unfortunately not this time. Judging by an appetizer that we’ve ordered for the past 25 years, the Grape and Brie quesadilla with Sweet Pea guacamole, it tasted like a “ghost” of previous years. It was plunked down on our table without a word, by a sour looking server. The Mahi mahi we both ordered was bland and dry. The salt shaker was empty so I couldn’t even season it myself. And the purple sweet potatoes were inedible. We gave this restaurant another chance after bad service a few years ago, since we were on our way to pick up our daughter from the airport, but never again. There are too many other restaurants to go to on Maui. Don’t bother, especially if you are driving from the Lahaina area.
I’ve dined here every time we come to Maui. This time our server was never around sad as it tainted my evening. The food is always delicious.
Excellent meal and service. A bit spendy for what was provided.
Appetizer & dinner was outstanding service was excellent the only thing negative I could say about the restaurant would be the noise but I will definitely be back.
My wife and I have dined at Haliimaile General Store many times over the past few years, and this was our first disappointing meal. Perhaps it was an off night, but my appetizer spring rolls arrived just better than room temperature instead of piping hot. The spring rolls were also greasy. The popcorn shrimp appetizer was mediocre at best. Main courses were disappointing as well. We will return and give this fine restaurant another shot.
The food was excellent as usual... the waitstaff ok... the person seating us and we were the first to be seated for a table for two tried to seat us where one of us was on a blank wall and one next to a window where there were 5 other tables for two all on the windows were open.. we asked to sit at the next table and she did... The other tables never got filled up... and they sat another couple on the blank wall... I should have turned and told them to ask for another table... even by the time we left there were plenty of open tables..mahalo...🌺
This was our 2nd time eating dinner here and it was just as memorable as the 1st. The General Store has a lot of history dating back to the early 1900s. It evolved to a superb and historical restaurant. The food and service are wonderful. The entrees are unique in their seasoning and flavors. Much of the seafood is local and excellent. The servers are attentive and friendly. The restaurant is always crowded so reservations are a must.
Our group of investors had a great Haliimaile General Store dinner at one of the top restaurants on Maui. Out of the 8 of us, everyone enjoyed their meal and commented on the great service. I had the roasted duck and it was divine. The crab pizza appetizer was fabulous and those who had cocktails all commented on the great taste and fresh ingredients used. The fish was prepared perfectly and with a sauce that enhanced the flavor and excited the taste buds. We all had only praise to describe this dinner experience and do recommend Haliimaile General Store to any size group.
Took my in laws for dinner and they loved it! In all the years they've been to Maui, they'd never eaten at the store . They said it was the best meal they've had in a while! We'll be back!
This is a place I’d been hoping to visit for the past five years. It seems like a foodie place where people go to enjoy a special occasion. The hotel concierge hyped it up, characterizing it as “worth the one hour drive”. While I am sure the chef is very accomplished and has been part of a local food movement, I could not be MORE disappointed by the whole experience. We reserved an early time to avoid poor service and poor food quality due to The Rush, but this is exactly what we got. We were ushered to a table so far into a dark corner (while passing many, many open tables), it seemed like we were diners to be ashamed of! The cocktails were good, especially the coconut daiquiri. The server was awkward and the surrounding tables were also given cursory service, no matter what or how much was ordered. We split the crab pizza and had the paniolo ribs and seafood curry. While the curry was tasty and flavorful, the ribs were oversauced in an effort to disguise the dryness of the ribs. The pizza was advertised as secret recipe, but I’m certain there won’t be many problems fending off requests.
It would be nice to write this off as an isolated incident, but we spend TONS of money on food and vacations, we have never had this happen at Mama’s Fish House. No dessert was ordered because we were done at that point.
Great staff, well recruited and trained!!! The place is noisy (hard surfaces) but the rest is amazing. Our first visit and Chris our waiter was a funny dude, we laughed a lot
Will see you again

Haliimaile General Store is consistently good, however I really don't appreciate adding a 2% "kitchen surcharge" to the check. Do I have to pay for kitchen staff extra now? Wouldn't any customer assume that the people working in the kitchen are already paid? I am a big fan of the Haliimaile General Store and as a local I've been going there for years with friends, family and business associates. But this is simply cheap and puts a severe damper on a otherwise great restaurant. Don't "nickel & dime" your regulars ...
Food is consistently good, service is excellent and they make great complimentary cocktails.
As always the service was impeccable and the food excellent. I personally had the lamb chops and they would rival any I have had anywhere!
Service was great. Food was good. A children’s birthday party next to us in the bar area.
As always the food was excellent. It was my wife’s birthday and since we always have had excellent food and the service was top notch she wanted to celebrate her birthday at Haliimaile General Store. I have to say that the service was not what we had experienced in previous visits. Hopefully it was an isolated incident as Haliimaile is one of our favorite places.
Nice spot different from other Maui spots. Service just ok. Portions good. Fresh fish.
We have heard about the General Store for several years and this vacation finally made a reservation. Best food we have had on Maui. Should have come sooner! Very attentive staff, excellent dinner, pleasant atmosphere. We’ll be back!
Food and presentation was great, but the restaurant was very busy and crowded which slowed service down to a crawl. However, the wait staff tried to be proactive and attentive, but it was too croweded for the size of the restaurant. Not too crowded to keep me away in the future, though.
We used to go often but haven't for several years primarily due to changes in the menu. My pork shank was excellent as was my wife's seafood curry. We will be returning soon.
The food was delivered in a timely fashion and beautifully presented. A bit pricey. We found the venue pretty noisy but beautiful decor and art work.
It was very good as usual. I just wish servers would be as attentive to two single women as they are to a man and woman.
I do not appreciate the "2% kitchen surcharge " added to the bill. The prices are high enough already without you adding surcharges.
Always consistently superior food and service at a reasonable price. Love this place.
This is the best place ever! The food is always wonderful and the staff is great! We love this restaurant so much!
We visit every year on our trip to Maui. Just fabulous food, great friendly service. Pricing typical of good dining establishments in Hawaii. We always tend to go with the fish entrees. They are deservedly, known for their Pineapple Upside down cake.
Excellent service and food. We try to eat here every time we come to Maui. One tip though, it’s less noisy in the back room area than the bar.
Food and service were both amazing! Christopher and Trevor were both very helpful. The crispy half duck, the scallop risotto, the short ribs were all incredible. The lilikoi creme brulee was also fantastic, much lighter than a typical creme brulee. Everyone left very full and happy
Food and service was excellent. Had the the crab pizza as an appetizer, it was very nice. Had the Duroc pork shank, the meat was so tender, I did not need a knife. It tasted really good with the fruit compote and on top of the smoked Gouda polenta. The serving size was very generous. Friend ordered the Tandoori King Salmon. She said it was really good, nice and moist with good flavor.
Our server Elizabeth was fantastic.
Wonderful meal with great service. Christopher, you're the best! Enjoyed talking with the sommelier who has just returned from WA, too. My husband continues to talk about the Cioppino and especially the Scallops.
Wonderful once again. We try to visit at least once every year. It’s always great food and great service.
We have been coming here every few years for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. The seafood is always amazingly fresh. We love many of the old standards, but enjoy the specials as well.
The food was superb, from the salad with arugula, homemade crispy onions and panko fried chevre, to the crispy chicken breast sitting on the best Meyer lemon gravy imaginable, with green beans and whipped Maui sweet potato on the side. The service was impeccable. This was my third visit and as always the setting was marvelous and not too noisy. I'm already looking forward to another trip there.
