This restaurant never disappoints. I now live on Maui part-time and like to go at least once a month.
Best restaurant in Maui. Amazing food and service!
One of our absolute must-stops whenever we visit Maui.
Excellent meal, burger was delicious, buttermilk chicken sandwich also. Iced tea with a fruity kick and the mai Tai was a tart delight! My wife loved her fish tacos. Highly recommend.
Try the Spicy Hibiscus Margarita!
We enjoyed eating in this beautiful venue! Our waiter was so sweet and the food was amazing. It is surrounded by pineapple fields and has a great history. Would definitely go back when in the area!
Very friendly, accommodating and helpful staff. We couldn't get an Uber in time so they postponed our reservation. Also, one of them, Maggie, spent a long time calling taxis for our return trip. Their food isn't too Hawaiian or maybe this is what modern Hawaiian is, so we ended up getting two appetizers, which were ok. Our pineapple upside down cake was really nice, inspite of it having no rum . Our cocktails were also ok.
Always a great place to gather and taste the best upcountry dining has to offer
Usually one of our favorite places to eat but the food wasn’t up to par. Not sure what happened. If this was the first time eating at Hailiimaile, we wouldn’t go back but the food has been excellent in the past so we will give it another try.
One of Maui’s gems. I’ve been going for over 25 years - consistently a great experience.
The Maui onion soup was the best I have ever had. The ginger fizz cocktail was also outstanding as was the meal. Already trying to book our next reservation.
My wife and I had dinner here on her Birthday. This place has great ambiance and the staff was friendly and knowledgable. The coctails were delicious, especially the Mai Tai. The food was pretty good overall but I thought my mahi mahi special was a bit bland, could be seasoned more and/or use a bit more sauce. The onion soup was too salty. The suck salad was delicios as was the sashimi napoleon. 4 star for food and 5 for everything else.
Awesome we will come again ! Love the drive and the food is so good
Delicious, definitely a locals hangout. The food is amazing... enjoy all the appetizers. The hamburger is amazing!!!
Great dinner at Haliimaile General Store. Not a big menu but all options are great. A definite must do!
The service was eh...the food was pretty good.
We had reservations and were seated by the front door looking at the road...definitely not what you would call a date night atmosphere.
Wow!!!! This place is amazing!!!!!! Killer fish tacos. Crab pizza was simply to die for. Also, the Napoleon salad is a must have. Drink were very... very good too. Get here ASAP.....
The food was beautifully presented and delicious. The waiter was knowledgeable and very personable. Could not have been more pleased.
Great enchilada pie and Caesar salad with chicken. Unfortunately, they were out of fish so 4 fish dishes were immediately eliminated from the already limited menu(because of COVID). I’d advise you to arrive earlier if you want more choices. The service was top notch. The staff were very good with COVID safety, which we appreciated. We took their pineapple upside down cake into Haleakala National Park with us and ate it while enjoying the views. The views and the cake were spectacular!
You will not find a better place in all of Maui. Come early go back often.
Get bev’s famous crab pizza!
2% surcharge for the kitchen staff? Wasn’t disclosed until the check came. Up the prices on the menu $0.50 and pay the workers better wages.
Dined indoors. Server was fantastic and fun to interact with. Cocktails and salads were good, but entree’s were very average, fish seemed not as fresh as you want in Hawaii and just not exciting. Nice building, but decor and ambiance pretty boring.
I’m GF so I was a little hesitant to eat here because nothing was marked on their menu as GF. However, our waiter was VERY informed on the ingredients. I loved my Kalua pork enchilada pie and my husband loved his chicken sandwich.
Amazing food & service!
Food was good.
Water glasses were often empty and we needed to request refill.
Waiter was pleasant but didn’t come to check on us very often during meal(we ended up asking a runner to get us more sauce).
The doors were open which was ok. Unfortunately flies were buzzing around our food. Not very appealing, especially at this price point and “indoor dining”.
Was excited to try HGS given what I had read online. We were seated outside in a large tent with a Christmas tree propped up with lights--random. Had the Mac nut crusted fish and seafood curry. Fish was moist but the dish overall wasn't memorable. Lemongrass cocktail was okay. Got the coconut cream added but didn't taste much of it. Wife's curry had a decent amount of seafood but mostly broth and veggies and bland overall. Had the pineapple upside-down cake for dessert. It was fine. The pound cake kind of fell apart. Pretty underwhelming dinner, especially for the price.
What a delicious dinner experience in the upcountry! Highly recommend the iconic crab pizza appetizer - I was initially scared to try it but it was SO very yummy. The macadamia mahi mahi was moist and delicious on a lovely bed of purple yams. Another in our party raved about the ahi with noodles. We absolutely savored the tangy unique Tai Mai cocktail! So very glad that the restaurant provided blankets and a heat lamp for outside dining as it gets chilly even tho it was in the 90's at the beach that day. So bring a jacket when dining here. Very highly recommend Haliimaile General Store!
The food was all very fresh and delicious. It was so nice to have a full set of vegetarian options for one of our diners. Between the 4 of us we had a wide variety of dishes and every one of us was happy with our order. The service was outstanding and the setting was very relaxing. It is definitely pricey so be prepared to spend $$ but we all found it to be worth the drive and the cost. The cocktails and desserts were excellent as well. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!
The General Store is the type of restaurant that does not need to advertise. My wife and I have been eating their for 16 years, with the exception of 2020. The variety on the menu is a pure treat. There is something for everyone. Food preparation is unique. The Duck bun is a perfect example. The service is friendly and checks in at the right moments. The setting is relaxing.
seems like the selection and taste, quality of food has gone down from years past. I've been going here for over 10? years, every time I'm on Maui. it used to be my favorite eatery.
First time here, great little hidden gem!
Great lunch with the family on our visit in the Maui upcountry area. Food was delicious as expected! My daughter loved the ribs and the wife enjoyed the catch of the day, mahi-mahi
First, let me say that this has always been one of my absolute favorite restaurants. I dine out frequently, and pre-COVID I would stop by here after work 2-3 times a week to chat with the staff and have a pau hana cocktail. The staff has completely changed, and unfortunately, not for the better. We had to wait 20 minutes after being seated just to put in a drink order. Only half the drinks arrived, and we had to remind our server what we ordered. After waiting another 20 minutes she came back to take our dinner order, while one of the drinks still had not arrived. 45 minutes later we got our dinner. One order was wrong. I told them I would take the order they got wrong home, since I know they would have to just throw it away. They charged me for it. Got the bill, and no pen. Absolute trash service for the amount of money I had to pay for this completely unsatisfactory experience. Sorry guys, I won’t be going back.
We had a delicious meal in the outdoor tent! Service was fantastic and very personable. They even had blankets for us to cover our legs since there was a slightly cool breeze. Highly recommend the TaiMai - their award winning version of a MaiTai and the seafood curry. We’ll be back next time we come to Maui!
We had 5:15pm reservations for two. The Restaurant opens at 5pm for dinner. We were seated in the back corner of the back room which made me feel like I had to eat at the kid's table at Grandma's house for Thanksgiving. I was hoping that an early reservation would get us a cozy table by the window. Perhaps one needs to request this at the time of seating since we did pass a few unoccupied tables on our way to the back. The back room is very spacious and colorful. I noted the popular hits music playing in the background and was quite disappointed in the choice for an upscale restaurant in an historic building. This made me feel like I might as well have been in a Kihei pub or poolside bar in Wailea. Play some vintage Hawaiian music, Sinatra, jazz or blues. On the positive side, our food and drinks were good and prices were reasonable. The server was attentive as necessary. We appreciated the Covid19 precautions. We were promptly seated at our reserved time. I'd come again but probably just for lunch when visiting Makawao. Reservations are a must.
Our waiter was one of the best waiters I’ve ever had! Food was delicious. Very cool ambiance. Would definitely go back!
Every time we stay in Kihei we come here and are never disappointed. It is out of the way but worth it. Go back by way of Haiku and Paia and enjoy a nice drive
Great Food as Always, excellent service and reasonably priced for Hawaii.
