We have been wanting to go here for a very long time. It was our daughter‘s 18th birthday so we went there and we were blown away by the amazing service, and the quality of the food. Very happy that we finally found this place! I had the mahi-mahi special which was amazing, my son had the hamburger which he loved, even as leftovers! My daughter had the vegetarian dish which was excellent. And my wife had the seafood curry which was a delight. Some things to not miss out on are the sashimi Napoleon, also the crabPizza, and the French onion soup is to die for! The salads are fresh and delicious. You can’t go wrong here!
We had a wonderful dinner last Saturday night. Our server, Sandra J, was awesome!! She helped me order a perfect combination of food and wine and went above and beyond to make our night a great one with a lot of laughs on top of exquisite food. The outdoor seating is warm and romantic. The Sashimi Napoleon, Baja Margarita and the Paniolo BBQ ribs were all fabulous. I just made a reservation for next Saturday as well!!! The Haliimaile is a 'must visit' on Maui.
Really a must when in Maui. On the way upcountry to Makawao. Lovely hospitality and well prepared foods in an island atmosphere.
Delicious lunch
Our first time there, they did not disappoint. Great drinks (the Tai Mai is a must have) and the food was great. Wonderful truly local spot.
We dine here every time we are in Maui; the French onion soup was amazing as was the mahi-mahi!
Do not waste your time or money eating here. I’m pretty sure the food is all from Costco even their infamous $30 tuna tower Napoleon. The popcorn shrimp tasted of bleach and out Baja margaritas were supposedly slightly spicy but overly sweet and couldn’t taste the tequila. Sat in a dark corner that kind of smelled.
$90 for a horrible experience. Do not go!
Food was great. Service subpar. The waitress cleared one person’s plate while the other person was still eating - tacky for a party of two. I get you have to turn tables but for over $100 per person service should be classier. Still the food was excellent.
This is a must do if your in Maui for a week!
lunch might be the better choice.
We’ve been here twice now. It is “a must” now, when we visit Maui! Always great!
They had updated their menu since closing for COVID, and I wanted to try a bit of everything. Everything looked great! Everything tasted great! Also nice to see you have the option to eat inside, at the bar or outside under a tent. A favorite place of mine always...
The meal we had was excellent! My husband had the Korean braised short ribs and I had the seafood green curry. Both were so good we cleaned our plates! The waiter was excellent in guiding us through the menu and helping us make a good selection. The only down part was the noise but that would not stop me from going again.
Dining at HGS was an exceptional experience, the best of our Maui vacation. Dining outside was chilly because of a strong wind, but the waiter offered a blanket for my companion and we were both comfortable. Everything else was great! The seafood was wonderful and the sauces and preparations were flawless. We had to rent a car to get the the restaurant but we had no regrets. It was excellent!
Lovely time.
Food was the best I had my entire trip. Service was exceptional.
Outstanding drinks and service!
Every bit of my meal was fantastic. I had the baby back ribs and the meat fell off the bone. The sauce was excellent. I’m in Texas part time and I know good ribs and sauce. The Asian salad with it was also good but I had to bring it home as I was full of ribs. We had the pineapple upside down cake that was scrumptious and very different. We will be going back here many times.
What a special spot! Everything I heard is true. The food was AMAZING and the service excellent.
Always one of the best eating places on Maui. I had the BBQ ribs and they were outstanding.
Never miss an opportunity to visit and enjoy the amazing food and beverage! Haliimaile is a must if you’re in the area. Never disappoints! Crab pizza appetizer to start is divine!
Lovely atmosphere and pleasant staff. The food was good. My husband had the crab pizza and really liked it. I had the ahi tacos rare and they were cooked perfectly. Visited the glass blowing and distillery across the street. Nice day trip.
This is our ‘go-to’ dining experience during our frequent visits to Maui. And we also understand the added pressure during COVID. However, our last visit was disappointing on many levels. We were seated over 30 minutes past our reservation time, while several tables remained uncleared and unattended. Our server forgot our salad and we waited for our dinner over an hour after we ordered. Several tables who were seated after us were served long before we were. What added to our disappointment was we informed the hostess and our server that we were headed to the airport to catch a flight. An apology or explanation would have gone a long way to remedy the situation.
They used to give you bread with your meal, but now charge for it, which seems stingy on their part, considering their prices for an entrees.
We were outside in a tent. Good for being quiet but we are not big fans of tents....
We had a lovely dinner and our waiter, Ed was delightful. We were able to also purchase a pint of your crab dip so what a bonus. Loved eating in the tent area.. always one our favorite things to do is come to your special restaurant.💕
Our late Valentine’s Day celebration. This was during the pandemic. Felt extremely safe eating here. Food was very good. Service was fantastic. Our first time here. We’ll be back.
This was our first experience dining here and we were not disappointed. The entree presentation was beautiful and the freshness of all the ingredients was a tastey delight. We arrived early and were promptly seated after a brief check in procedure. The atmosphere was fun and cheerful surrounded by local works of art on all the walls. Our server was attentive and did a great job. I highly recommend Halimaile for a fresh taste treat departure from the same old same old menu. We ordered the sumptuous Korean short ribs, onion soup, callimari and ahi poke. Yum!
I never write reviews, but we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary, and this warrants mention so others don’t make the same mistake that we did. We had the duck buns and sashimi tower appetizer and the local catch. All were lackluster and disappointing, but the duck buns were the best of the three. The entree fish was under seasoned. We asked for recommendations on the menu and the dishes nonetheless fell way short. The drinks were all very good—we tried the mai tai and lemongrass cocktail which were noteworthy. They brought us one stale cookie and two scoops of ice cream for our anniversary. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable, but we won’t be back. It was our first time visiting since we moved to Maui last fall, and for the price, there are far better options. We will be trying a different restaurant this weekend for our anniversary, since we left very disappointed.
We were delighted to receive a surprise anniversary ice cream n cookie dessert from our hostess
Great food, great people, and made us feel welcome and safe
Ahi fish tacos were fantastic
Great as always
The food, drinks and service are spectacular. So fun.
Context: Expectations were high, as (1) we had read great things about this restaurant + love farm to table; (2) we chose to visit Haliimaile General Store for our last meal on Maui (3) it was a trek for us to get there based on where we were staying.
The good stuff:
-- Easy to book: Plenty of reservations (maybe too many; see below) available on OpenTable. Fresh ingredients
-- Food was generally tasty, and portions were generous. Get: The poke app (very fresh) and duck pasta.
What was wanting:
-- Service: Service moves towards you at a glacial pace, and once it arrives, it is exceptionally hurried. No pleasantries (no "welcome") or structure to interactions (e.g., waitress didn't ask if we wanted any drinks). Multiple periods where we'd sit for 10+ minutes waiting to get someone's attention. This may be a function of there being too many diners for the # of people currently working during COVID. I would have preferred to order at a counter to the service we received.
-- Value: Really strange disconnect between the price & service. If service isn't friendly, would at least expect it to be quick/efficient at this price level
Once again our dinner was yummy. We have always had delicious food. Plus eating outside is great! Hope they can make a permanent outside dinning area. We will see you again soon
We make it a point to eat here every time we visit the island. Perfect spot since it was a rainy day in Upcountry. The food is always excellent and the service is beyond compare. Dale our waiter and all the staff made our dining experience fantastic. Even though there was limited occupancy due to Covid, we never felt rushed or that they needed us to hurry away.
Keep up the good work so glad to see you open and welcoming guests!
Took my wife here while on vacation in Maui for our second anniversary. Definitely not an every day place unless you are living large, but a wonderful meal, amazing service and a price tag that matches (think what you would expect to pay for an excellent meal in the continental us, and double it). But welcome to Hawaii! So splurge for a nice dinner and enjoy the memories.
Everything was great, but sitting in the tent was a disappointment. No fault of the restaurant.
Delicious food. I had the surf and turf. Melt in your mouth steak, with deliciuos sauce. The manapua bun duck appetizers were very delicious.
This was our first visit, and it was a super pleasant experience. Dale was a personable, friendly server, and the food was wonderful.
