Fantastic food and excellent service. Couldn't fault it in any department
Fresh local produce, friendly and helpful owners. The summer ploughman's is definitely worth a try if calories aren't an issue
Very friendly with good service, most enjoyable evening meal.
Our second visit recently and this time we brought along two friends to experience the relaxed comfortable environment and the high quality food.
What a find! Booked last minute for Easter lunch - and we were in for a treat. The Easter roast lunch was outstanding - huge portions, divine meats and veggies. We were thrilled! Adam, the barman, was friendly and engaging, and clearly enjoys being there. Everyone looked like they were happy, relaxed and enjoying their meals. Highly recommended!
Lovely place, lovely spot and lovely people. The food and the beer was great too. I think if you booked a table at a quiet time it would be just about perfect. We booked for 1am (admittedly there were a lot of us which couldn't have helped) and didn't get served until nearly 3pm. The food was great, tasty, hot and all came at the same time. The only gripe being it took so long (in retrospect, some bread or a freebie glass of wine would have made the wait more bearable). We skipped puddings rather than wait again, which was a shame because they looked great too. From what we could tell it wasn't lack of staff or unusual circumstances, just that the place filled up in a short space of time and that's what happens. I would go again, but never at a busy time.
Food was very good, but was REALLY impressed with the service received. We were made to feel welcome by all the staff, and we really appreciated Tania (owner) introducing herself during the evening and then chatting for ages at the end of the meal. We felt like we were 'guests' rather than 'customers'. We will definitely be going back!!!
Overall lovely country pub with good food and service! However slightly chilly inside!
We thoroughly enjoyed a special birthday lunch on Christmas Eve. Tanya and the staff at the Halfway House could not have been more hospitable and welcoming. The menu contained a very creative range of options, the only problem being that there were at least four close contenders for each course. When the food arrived it was well cooked and well presented. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable eating experience and excellent value.
Thank you for a lovely dining experience, I will definitely return
Unfortunately Open Table failed to get the booking through to the venue and we arrived when they had a large shooting party booked in and we had to wait a long time for our meal. However, the staff were great and kept us going with free snacks until they could get to us.
Nice and friendly service and good food, very nice roast Would go again and would recommend it to people. Can't really fault it
Great Sunday lunch. We all had roast (beef and pork) and it was all excellent. Crispy roasts, lots of gravy, tender meat and well cooked veg. Service was slow but it's a lovely authentic pub to eat if you're not in a hurry. Relax and enjoy the ambience.
Fabulous lunch, unfortunately we were the only ones in the restaurant apart form one table of two. Would recommend to anyone, great conversation with the owner/chef.
First time visit having read reports in Bourton News. Very small table for three of us & waited a long time for contact with staff & not sure whether to order at the bar or wait to be served at table.
Waited over 30 mins for food. meat a bit sparse, roasties pale but meal tasty. prefer to have gravy served separately & better selection of veg. Tried to catch eye of waitress/waiter to hav more veg but nobody around
We had lunch on a Saturday. The food was very good, service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. We were especially impressed by the welcome our dog got. It may not be everyone's cup of tea that dogs are so welcome but for us it was the reason we chose the pub in the first place and we weren't disappointed.
Lovely friendly pub, very helpful & hospitable. Asked for a taxi but was given a lift by the landlady AMAZING.
A Saturday Night on a Bank Holiday weekend, Pub had a mini event happening in the large garden area, Live music, performances etc. Our late online booking for a table for 2 was confirmed for 7.30pm, we arrived early so as to have a drink and see the last rays of sunshine before the rain set in. Seemed a little understaffed / inexperienced for such a evening, only 3 people working the bar / waiting tables etc.. Table of 6 had ordered, then another table of 10, then ourselves, after going to the bar to place our order. we sat and waited, and waited, Some nuts and an apology regarding the wait was brought to our table, and a little later another offer of nuts. Table of 10 finally got there food, we got ours almost an hour after we sat down. Standard fair, Starters mushroom Arancini, a little on the large size for Arancini and did not taste of a lot and only warm on the inside. Mains I had the fish and chips, fish over cooked very dry and batter on bottom hard as rock, wife had poached smoked cod on a bed of seafood risotto, risotto nice enough but the smoked cod over powered the whole dish, No need for smoked anything really. This was mentioned to the young man who came to clear our table, but I could see our comments never went anywhere as he handed the plates over to someone else and went to clear the now empty table of 10. We were offered a free dessert but no one seemed to follow this offer up, and we had eaten enough by then. By this time other staff seemed to appear and another apology for the wait, (seemingly a large party outside had ordered at the same time as the table of 10 so we were way down the line). Have been to this pub before, (had lunch one time ) and it is very inviting and the staff are very accommodating which is why we went on this evening. Just picked the wrong night I suppose, we may give it another go in the future as it's not a million miles away from us and the staff made up for the delay, it can be a tough job catering.
Booked from internet reviews looked good, went with son, daughter two tots.nice evening so sat outside.placed very detailed, itemised order in bar, twice staff came out to query order!
Meal was ok to good,BUT I went into outside gents, disgustingly filthy!not been cleaned for ages in my opinion,a bird, possibly a bat had dropped much muck onto hand dryer, windowsill and floor were mucky and you could see had not had a clean for days.
I asked lady present what ladies was like, she said I don't know, the push button light didn't work,as far as I could see there was no bulb,!
Finally,I went onto lawn with young child,it was covered in dog mess, someone should clear it up.
First and last visit, sorry, the restaurant looks nice so clean up the patio and toilets please
A lovely meal in a beautiful setting. The staff were very friendly and the food was incredible. I'll certainly be going back and will recommend it to others.
Excellent, please see my comments on Trip advisor dated 30 june headed EVENING MEAL
It was a special occasion my 75th Birthday
One of the warmest and relaxed welcomes we've had in a long time. The smoked haddock fish and chips was very good - triple cooked chips were excellent. Very pleasant décor - bistro style. The relatively new owner is trying hard to develop this nice old country pub. Good luck to her!
WE love animals but not sure others like the cat and dogs in the eating areas!
We picked the Halfway House for a family meal and it proved a great success. The service was friendly, the food delicious and great value. A place where you can turn up, relax and get a delightful meal.
The food was very nice and the atmosphere was extremely friendly. We had a lovely evening.
