In Dobbs Ferry, the Half Moon restaurant is a member of the Fort Pond Bay Company that provides a casual and sophisticated American dining experience. Located on the water, guests are invited to sit near one of the windows to enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Hudson River, grab a high backed bar stool to watch a sporting event at the bar or sit on the outdoor patio at Half Moon.
A variety of small plates and salad at Half Moon are perfect for sharing with the table. Other notable menu items include the raw bar and large plate options like the Montauk clam bake with lobster, littleneck clams, Italian sausage, mussels, chicken wings, roasted corn, red potatoes and blistered shishito peppers.
When the weather cooperates, this is the place to eat outside at the water's edge. It is a special feeling to sit and eat in very relaxed environment.
it was a beautiful night to dine under the stars and celebrate Father's day. The food was very good and it was very relaxing and relaxed atmosphere
The Saturday night we were there it was very busy. We had 8pm reservation and weren't seated until at least 8:30 but there is a nice bar to wait at. I had tried to request a window but they won't guarantee even though I made the res. 5 weeks in advance. Needless to say we didn't get one. We enjoyed the food and our waiter was excellent. I do want to add that when this restaurant is full it is quite noisy inside. Views are terrific!
If the weather hadn't been so hot that day we would have sat outside and enjoyed the great band, too.
I took my family here for my son's graduation. We sat indoors and had a decent view of the beautiful Hudson outside. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. A loud mouth at the table next to us was annoying. I've been here before with my wife and the food has been very good. This time, the food was sub-par, especially for the price. The coconut shrimp tasted as if they had been heated up, not bad, but not great. The main courses were OK, but OK is not great for the prices they charge. The dessert, however...I'll just say that the ice cream sandwich is out of this world! You're paying for the ambiance which is wonderful. Maybe it was an off night for the kitchen. I'm sure we'll give it another try this summer.
What drew us in was the location – the view of the Hudson from the patio adjacent to the river is simply GORGEOUS. Then it quickly became clear that the view was just the beginning. The service was great – attentive and consistent but not intrusive. The adults savored well-crafted and tasty cocktails and our meals were well-portioned and delicious. We enjoyed the raw oysters (East Coast) so much we ordered a second dozen. We had four adults and two kids in our group and had no issue in accommodating everyone’s preferences. The ambiance was very lively and dynamic – it seemed to be quite the gathering for locals (small parties and families alike) who were definitely enjoying themselves. After settling in, the staff made this family from Texas feel right at home! We are DEFINITELY looking forward to returning to Half Moon on a future trip to the Hudson Valley, and heartily recommend Half Moon, especially for those visiting from out-of-town – it’s not to be missed!!!
Wonderful! food, and surroundings, it's all good! Wish the weather had cooperated that day, we would have been outside. But even from inside you experience the river and the views through the full length windows that surround the restaurant.
The food was mediocre at best and the service was poor. The restaurant has beautiful views of the Hudson River and while the restaurant was only two thirds full, we were seated in the worst place possible - seats near the entrance with no view. My son ordered the baby back ribs but couldn't chew on the meat since it was completely burnt, rubbery like jerky and had splotches of tin foil on the rib. The other entrees weren't bad but not worth mentioning either. The waiter seemed annoyed and angry, never smiled and was basically unpleasant to us. What a disappointing experience!
Love the view. Great service & great brunch The restaurant made sure we had a great table with an amazing view
There was a bridal shower that we were seated a little too close to which accounted for the noise level. Last time we were here for dinner we had a table by the window which was beautiful
Both entrees were overcooked. They were not appetizing.
Service was so- so
The service was excellent as always, I took my mom and aunt and they kept talking about how awesome the duck tacos were. The waiter wa super cute (as per my mom), and really friendly. My favorite restaurant for outdoor dining.
The views of the Hudson, the Palisades and Manhattan are fantastic. Went for lunch and sat outside. Wonderful. Menu is not huge at lunch but everyone was happy with what they had. Not a real foodie menu but fine. There was a First Communion group there that had a separate room. Looked like a greAt place for an event. Practically at the train station so our Manhattan folks could just take the train and walk over. So easy. Wait staff were attentive and nice. Would definitely recommend.
Got seated righr away, had 2 servers taling care of us. The recommendations were excellent. They rush us. Had an time
Took my mother for mother's day and was so incredibly surprised. The venue and view is beautiful overlooking the Hudson River. The food was absolutely delicious, the Montauk sourced seafood was fresh and all quality ingredients. My mother had a wonderful time, I HIGHLY recommend!
For Mother's Day they ran things very smooth, you would never know it was a "holiday" we had reservations and were promptly seated and at a window as preferred. Prefix menu was kind of disappointing seeing as the selections werent able to be customized to our liking but I assume thats how they maintained impeccable service on a busy day and at the least the food was still good. The children's prefix needed an overhaul though, that was my only gripe, $28 for hamburger, chicken strips, or mac and cheese, would have liked to see maybe at least 1 healthy option for the kids (meat/fish and veggie) but again overall great as usual.
Our regular favorite place to dine
Can't beat the view
Went for Mothers Day and found it to be overpriced with poor quality food. I would not waste my money by going here again.
Half Moon has the spectacular water edge view so it is always a hit as far as scenic. The menu is ok but for get togethers and special occasions it is a great choice.
A bit pricey. Would only come for a special occasion
Great burgers first time having lunch there.
As usual, Half Moon was the perfect choice for a celebratory dinner. Great food, ambiance and service! Although we didn't order dessert, our very thoughtful server brought over a beautiful plate of whipped cream and syrup spelling out "Congratulations!" Thank you!
We have eaten here many times and always enjoyed it. It is especially lovely on a summer night sitting outdoors at the edge of the Hudson, watching the sunset over the Palisades. But it also has a very lovely indoor dining room with many tables enjoying Hudson River Views and there is a small private room on the upper level. In the summer there is also a very popular outdoor bar and bar menu. The food is very good, very consistent and reasonably priced for a place of this quality. Enjoy!
We celebrated my Dad's 89th birthday and had a wonderful time. At first, we were given a table near two large groups and we were afraid it would be too noisy for the senior member of our group. They were so understanding and gave us a table in a quieter area. They were so attentive throughout the whole brunch.
Love love love this place. It's our favorite spot for a special occasion
Great service from our waiters. Made sure everything was perfect. Lobster and prime rib were both excellent. Cheesecake is some of the best in NY
Place is great - food is awesome and view out of this world !
Half Moon's location is second to none. Great views of the Hudson, and in the distance, Manhattan. The drinks are nice, nice wine list. Server was great, and knew exactly ingredients for our gluten-sensitive friend.
Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry is like a mini vacation. We sat outside overlooking the gorgeous Hudson and enjoyed a delicious lunch. The staff never rushed us and we're so pleasant. My friend travels from Long Usland to lunch with me because the location is so special. We love Half Moon
My experience here was very upsetting with the prices we paid. We were celebrating a special occasion my cousin got engaged and we purchased bottomless mimosas for 20$ per person they gave us the bill without even us asking for it and cut us off at 4 mimosas as well. We asked to speak to the manager but he/she was taking forever to get to us so we left.
The Host of the restaurant Aqsa and Zoha received us with amazing greetings and extremely polite..
I had lunch here with a classmate from high school, class of '72. She and I are known for our long lunches and this was no exception. Lunch began at 12:30 and ended at 4:45. Edgar and his associates were very gracious and attentive. We both had the lobster roll w/ white wine. They also tucked us away in a quiet corner with window. Just another great lunch.
Half Moon is a place to dine for outstanding Hudson River views and beautiful ambiance. However, the supreme views are unfortunately overshadowed by food which is not only disappointing - but expensive. Not all dishes were bad. The bread was magnificent, the lobster with avocado appetizer was outstanding as was the macaroni and cheese. It was pretty much downhill from there. The hamburgers were just average as was the sole which was bland and tasteless - was it really sole we wondered? The chicken sandwich - also average. And then there was the dessert. It was a birthday celebration - so we ordered the Ice Cream Sandwich for the table as recommended by our waiter - which by the way was attentive - while those preparing on his behalf - were not. The ice cream was a beautiful presentation - the taste - not the highest quality. And there it goes. Will we come back? Perhaps yes, on a nice day, to enjoy the river. However, we will not be there for the food - that is for certain.
We stopped in by accident 4 years ago and enjoyed the view and the layout of the inside. This time We made reservations for 12.30 pm on a Friday. We arrived and were first and only seated.. So it was quiet. By the time we left there was about 10 tables seated.. The food was good and bread was wonderful. Service was good and portions fair. Weather permitting out side seating is good.
Amazing as always!
My guests had been to HALF-MOON before, and asked to go back. We sat by the window and the view was matched by the food and the drinks.. They did,t want to leave
We were promptly seated at 7:30 and witnessed a beautiful sunset over the Hudson on Sunday, 4/17. Things went downhill from there. Our drink order was taken and served and then the waiter went AWOL. We finally found someone to take our food order but on item after item were told that it wasn't availble. That included the mini lobster rolls, the lobster mac and cheese and the lobster avocado salad. But, they had plenty of the 2-pound lobsters at $69 if we really wanted lobster. No way were they going to use those pricey babies for all the other lobster dishes.
The four of us managed to scrape together an order of food that was "in stock". Then we waited. And we waited some more. And some more. At 8:45, we started asking about the food. We were told thatit would be served "any minute". Nine o'clock came and went. More inquiries, more promises, no food. Finally, at about 9:15 the orders came. Some hot, some luke warm, as though it had been waiting around. The mozzarella on the flatbread pizza was a cold, congealed mess. It was sent back. The substitute order arrived as everyone else was finishing. We received a perfunctory apology from the manager and were comped for the drinks. The restaurant was less tha half full when we arrived and nearly empty whe we left, so crowds were't the problem. We never found out what was. All and all, Half Moon was a mess.
We visited Half Moon for the second time, this one for a milestone birthday. The menu was excellent and all meals got rave reviews. We brought a cake with us and were charged a slicing fee ($3 per slice) which seemed a bit expensive, but I suppose it was cheaper than buying dessert.
I rated ambiance a bit lower because there was music playing loudly in the background which was not in keeping with the mood of the restaurant. Perhaps it was playing primarily for the bar crowd, but I found it quite distracting.
Service was OK - not great.
As we sat talking the shade went up automatically so we could enjoy the beautiful sunset! There is also outside dining. The food is varied = small plates to regular entrees. One of us ordered a rare steak and it was delivered well done. They took it back and brought a beautiful rare steak. Service was okay but a little confusing - we started with one server and switched to another but then food was served by someone else who also took the check... Overall it was a nice evening with good friends, good food and great views.
Unfortunately, we have to agree with many of the other reviews we looked at before taking our mom for her birthday. View fabulous. Just a gorgeous spot to sit and sit and sit. Got drinks after brunch and sat outside on the river for 2 hours visiting. But the food really is less than ordinary- how can eggs just have no taste? I also didn't like that I was offered a mimosa when I sat down without being told it did not come with the meal. The drink would have been $10- luckily another guest told me so I sent it back without drinking it.
Go for a drink; eat elsewhere.
