Food is good, not spectacular. Our favorite dishes were the clam chowder and crispy calamari - which looked anemic but tasted OK. Didn't like the artichoke hearts (the batter wasn't very crispy) or ahi poke (the fried won tons with it were good). The pan seared Yucatan halibut was overcooked, too dry and had so much seasoning on it, the fish was all orange-red colored. The fish tacos were good, especially the fried fish taco. The beer steamed prawns were OK, sort of bland with only a hint of beer. Princeton by The Sea IPA beer did have a nint of citrus hop but by the time you got to the bottom of the glass, it really left a bitter after taste like bad medicine.
Service was efficient, friendly. Not too long a wait for the food.
Great place to eat. The staff was polite and helpful and our particular waitress was wonderful and very friendly. Great experience and will go back again. Yummy beer too! Sat outside and it was very pleasant. Sitting outside was fun because it is also a dog friendly place and there were plenty of them hanging out seeming to have as much fun as the rest of us. Food, Great. Beer, Great. Ambiance, Great. It would be my first choice of restaurants in the area if we are close by again.
Very noisy, food was good- not great. Convenience to hotel was a key attribute in chosing the restaurant.
The beer is good but the food execution leaves much to be desired. The dining room is drab and not as clean as it could be.
Probably better than my ratings indicate, but not by much. I was a single diner, parked in a wierd spot and mostly forgotten. Best thing here is the beer.
the food was good and so was our service. THE COFFEE WAS AWFUL !!!
You'd better go there on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday to enjoy the overall experience.
We went there on a Monday and it's not worth it.
This local brewery restaurant is always pleasant to visit and take friends to. The food is quite good and offers a huge variety of dishes, from excellent sandwiches to pasta, steaks, seafood and many other tasty choices. The beer is great, all made on site. Pricing is moderate to expensive, depending upon what you choose to eat. The heated outside patio area with the great views is dog-friendly and there is always a lively mix of people; couples, families, tourists, locals, and of course, dogs! It is celebrating its 10 year anniversary now and that's a feat in this tough economy. There's a reason! It's a great, casual place for a good meal and conversation.
The view is great if the fog isn't in that's the problem with the Half Moon Bay area. The food was delicious...fish stew, tuna poke, and even their burgers were juicy and satisfying.
From the lovely hostess to the server, the experience was wonderful. They accommodated all my request. Service was prompt and both the server and hostess were very attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant.
My family went to this restaurant on Father's day. We had a reservation, but decided to sit outside since the weather was beautiful. We were able to get a perfect table, but patio filled up very quickly, so remember the rule - first come first served :-) Service was good, waitress attentive, food and beer was great. So overall a very nice experience.
The waitress was friendly and the food was okay, nothing spectacular. When we arrived, I was greeted by two very confused hostesses that couldn't find my reservation. One of them was friendly, and the other was quite rude, acting as if I had made a mistake, or somehow spelled my own name wrong on the reservation. Nevertheless, we were seated within ten minutes.
Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is one of our favorite places to take guests visiting from out of town or to just relax and have some great food and amazing beer. It's a great place to go for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is friendly as are the other cutomers.
We had a great lunch with a window with a view. The service was excellent. There were 5 in our group 2 of us are not seafood eaters and there was something for us also.My husband had the seafood sampler and loved every bite! We will be back!
Not a bad place...Portions weren't too big..
Once a year would be enough to go...Better choices out there..
Server was familiar with menu, had good suggestions ,was professional, with good sense of humor. I feel the server plays a large part of the dining experience. The food, wine and cocktails at this dining session was very good. We enjoyed our visit, as did our guest. We will be back.
If you remember you are at a pub, this place was great. Great food, drinks, locations for a nice walk.
Outstanding beer and really good food, plus beautiful views of Half Moon Bay. Perfect!
We sat in an area with a large group of Soccer Team celebrants so it was quite noisy and was difficult for us to hold a friendly conversation without yelling across the table. The food was good and the service was moderate. Our server never smiled but did attend to our needs. I would have preferred a more friendly server.
Overall, our party enjoyed the day and meal despite the noise and chaos of the tables around us.
We will return for other ocassions.
One of my favorite places on Earth. The food is good and the beer is good. It can get a bit cold at times...but there are heat lamps. I recommend sitting outside if you can; because Princeton Harbor is one of the most underrated gems in the Bay Area.
Great view of the Princeton Harbor. Good band rocking in the bar from 7-10 on a Saturday night, yet the dining room wasn't overwhelmed by the sound. Dinner was excellent.
I loved it will go back again. Patio seating was amazing. Dog Friendly :)
We would send visitors to this restaurant and tell them to eat outside. Good place for outdoor lunch in HAlf Moon Bay area. None of the restaurants there are really great, but this one has a view. We walked on the beach after lunch to see where the Mavericks Surf Contest is held.
Great beer and great food. Not too busy even on a Saturday, early afternoon.
The service was poor. They did not come around to refill water until we were leaving.
The food was mediocre. They ran out of one beer. It was hard to believe when one is dinning at a brewery.
The ambiance and service was good but they couldn't make up for the food which, apart from some basic appetizers, was pretty poor.
We would have liked to sit outside, although you can't make reservations for the patio (first come first serve, and it was probably an hour wait for a table out there). But inside is still nice, we had a window with a view of the ocean and good food and drinks.
We love this place, and sometimes it is even worth the hour wait for a table outside.
Have eaten here a few times before---the HMB Brewing Company has a good feel to it- exciting and fun...
Bar can be a bit loud(by this, I mean the music)
Food is mostly good--tonight is was very good!
Anyway, it is a fun, reliable local spot in a great location on Princeton-by-the-Sea...
We went to HMBBC for a casual New Years Eve dinner. We indulged a bit had the fried seafood sampler appetizer. The fish and chips were outstanding, but the fried oysters were a little over-battered. For our entrees, we had a steamed crab pot (special) and on the recommendation of our server, the Avo's fish stew. The stew was unbelievably tasty. The beer pairings on the menu are helpful, but it's also fun to get the beer sampler with 10 or so different varieties and decide for yourself.
very accomadating for gluten free menu options - chef even came out to the table to talk to us and assured us that he would take care of our meal
Staff were great, and the food was good (probably three and one-half stars, but we don't get that option). My only negative was screaming kids, but that's more the parent's fault than the restaurant's, and likely not a regular occurance.
I have been here a few times and enjoy the outdoor seating. However, don't expect much from the service. Once at lunch we had very poor service. After ordering and waiting for our food for 15 mins, we looked around for our server. We didn't see them at all for the next 10 mins. We eventually were able to flag someone else down to look in to our food. All told, we didn't get our food for 40 minutes, while other people got theirs who arrived after us. Servers didn't seem to care about our experience. Thanksgiving food was only so-so, but the service was better then.
Great place to unwind outside by the firepits while enjoying a beautiful sunset!
We had a wonderful meal here and the service was excellent. Our server, Megan, was very helpful in making suggestions when we had questions about the menu. The ahi poke appetizer was outstanding, as were the roasted vegetables that accompanied the entree. Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. has been and will continue to be one of our favorite restaurants in this area.
We really had a wonderful time as always, and the Halloween celebration made it all the more fun. We can't wait to return soon.
We went in late October and the place had more of a locals feel. A band was playing while a father and his two kids danced right on through happy hour. There wasn't anything special about the beers, but believe it or not, the ceviche we ordered was quite tasty! It was unseasonably warm that night, but the have heavy duty heat lamps and glass walls surrounding the deck to block the wind from the bay. Overall, an enjoyable experience that went easy on the wallet. Cheers!
The food was very good and priced reasonably. The live music was outstanding. John Nemeth is not to be missed in small venues like this.
We ordered the deep fried artichoke hearts and calamari for apps, they were both great. The artichokes were our favorite. My son had the fish and chips and stated that Princeton Fish was much better. My hubbie loved the fish taco's and I had the half crab louie and I had to search for the crab. I could not believe that I spent $15 for that! What a waste! Service was great...just don't order the crab louie!
The BBQ Oysters were grilled nicely, but smothered with too much sauce. The Portabellow Mushroom entree was excellent as was the rice served with it. The Sea Bass was slightly over-cooked and the sauce seemed un-inspired. Garlic cheese bread was good. Shrimp & Crab sandwich was well received and the french fries were excellent.
Overall the food was fine given the view and location, but not outstanding given the prices (not all that high, but not a bargain or anything either). Location is of course the big draw along with the sunset view over the harbor. Service was quite good given that the place was packed on a warm Saturday night.
We ordered the Calamari, which was okay but I've definitely had better. Too much breading was used. I requested to have my salmon grilled, but it came out too dry. So overall I wasn't impressed. The pear salad was good though.
